View Full Version : help with runner's knee!! Tha Greatest 11-14-2005, 01:04 AM i got a runners knee and need help? Give me your best cures... booyah_76 11-15-2005, 12:47 AM Runners knee is usually an overuse injury due to repetitive running, especially on a hard surface i.e. concrete, roads etc. It can present with inflammation i.e. swelling after activity, and pain For boxers, I think running has to be a major component of your training, especially if you have got a fight coming up. If you don't have a fight coming up: 1) ease up on the running, and try other lower-impact aerobic activity e.g. swimming, rowing, cycling 2) stretch ur leg muscles (quads, hamstrings). If u got a fight coming up: 1) try running on softer surfaces i.e. grass 2) run shorter distances 3) footwear: check their wear and tear, plenty of heel cushion 4) stretch ur leg muscles big time!! 5) anti-inflammatory drugs to assist removal of swelling 6) ICE post-exercise!! 7) u can get ur patella / kneecap to be taped to reduce the load imposed on it during running. Hope that helps. TuPrincipe 11-15-2005, 01:11 AM It's quite simple:rest. You get runner's knee from too much running, so just ease up on the running, and stretch it out. If you don't want to that try lunges/skip rope, etc. thekidd 11-15-2005, 01:35 AM I feel your pain man... just got my MRI done and the doc noticed knee inflammation and a torn quadricep =/ ... however, he told me that it's from running on the treadmill and I should be runnin on outside instead tre9 11-15-2005, 04:02 AM yeah, just rest it dude. its also good for your feet. Pugnacious_Z 11-15-2005, 04:41 AM rest it, if it gets better and gets worse after runnin again, buy knee straps, it will take alot of the weight off ur knees Gattz187 11-15-2005, 08:12 PM get a knee brace. take it off when it stops hurting. and when it hurts again just put the brace on skva20 11-15-2005, 08:36 PM Try those elyptical machines. You know, the ones that the girls are on at the gym. They are designed to have little to no impact. Like everyone else has said, running on hard surfaces creates a lot of high impact on the knee joint (also hips and ankles) It may look and feel strange to climb on one of those things, but it will allow you to maintain your cardio until your knee heals up. goodluck! -GBGQ- 11-16-2005, 12:07 AM Try those elyptical machines. Exactly, when I started running again I came down with a bad cause of it. The elyptical machines are pretty good. Empac 11-17-2005, 06:53 PM i've got knee problems too but to get a good cardio you dont always have to run, limit ur running to intense sprints so u get a good work out without being on ur knees to long and do the longer endurance excersices on a bike where your knees wont get effected like running BigDozer260 11-19-2005, 11:59 AM i got a runners knee and need help? Give me your best cures... Ease your focus on the oxidative system (over distance training) and focus more so on the anaerobic training (interval training). Boxing is an interval sport 3min intense activity 1min rest, focus you training accordingly. |
