Sad news, one of my favourites. Always wanted to meet him hope he hands in there. If anyone can KO an illness it's Smokin' Joe.

Thoughts with him and his family.

As much as I would hate to see my old master and farherfigure go, I would choose that over him being in excrutiating pain. But I don't think Joe will let this break him. It's like that one Survivor song:

"In the warriors code, there's no surrender.
Though his body says stop, his spirit fights 'NEVER!'"

pull through Smokin' Joe, we all love you.

They just flashed on ESPN that Joe doen't have very long. The're talking about hospice and that usually means the person has two weeks or less :(

Sorry, but advanced liver cancer is 100% terminal. This info was likely let out so that people could prepare to pay their final respects. Probably a matter of just days now. If I'm wrong I'll be delighted to apologize all over the place.

This chokes me up a bit. ive always loved joe frazier. to be brutally honest i wish this had happened to ali instead of joe who doesn't deserve this.

That is how I read it, very sad news. The ironic thing is that I think Joe has been so torn up with Ali over the years that he probably doesn't realise the respect and affection there is for him.
How ever long he's reckoned to have he'll exceed, man is a warrior.

So sad to hear this :(. This is really upsetting.

I was actually watching Frazier-Ali 1 when I saw the news. Hang in there champ...

well i think ali is a scumbag. i'm tired of all the praise he gets today from people while he just sits there with that ugly frozen mug of his. but at least he's alive and not near death like joe. that's what makes me sad and pisses me off too.

I know how you feel but cancer is like kryptonite for everyone young or old (especially for the old).

Anyway, here is some measured facts that the American media tries to hide from present to future generations of people of how insanely controversial the Muhammad Ali vs Joe Frazier were back in those days. The Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather is a pale comparison to how brutal and negative the hype around the Muhammad Ali vs Joe Frazier fight.

I heard from my dad that Muhammad Ali once fired a pistol at where Joe Frazier's hotel a day or two away from fight night. They have a video reel capturing Joe Frazier hitting the floor as gun fire was shot at his room and video of Muhammad Ali firing the pistol. Now, you can't even find the video of the incident.

An article of it:

Frazier soaked it all up like a sponge. When they arrived in Manila it was the same story. Ali poured scorn on his opponent. Humiliated him. Joe had the heart of a lion but verbally he was out of his depth when Ali got going. One time, as fight day approached, Ali spotted Frazier on a hotel balcony, grabbed a security guard's gun and fired some rounds at him. Everybody knew it wasn't live ammo but it still startled the hell out of Joe. "Go back in your hole, Gorilla," Ali ranted. "You gonna scare the people! Come out again and I'm gonna kill ya before time!"

Another video that deals with animosity of the hype between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier.

Anyway, let us just hope Joe Frazier pulls through.

Thank you for everything Joe, you ****ing great great man.

Always reminded me of a real life super hero, gave his life to the sport, didn't deserve this, not yet, always had a smile on his face and looked like he had an eternity left, can only hope he goes peacefully.

Thoughts go to his family and friends.

If Joe is suffering than I'd rather he go quickly. At least that's what I would want for myself or a loved one. The final days of cancer are too unpleasant to even discuss.

If he's in a lot of pain, then yeah, absolutely Scott. I just have a family member that was written off for dead by the doctors (and his wife) over 25 years ago, with prostate cancer and he's still going strong at 87 next month.

yeah but this is the kind if sht im talking about. ali gets all the commercials, movies, and recognition. while joe is just forgotten. look at this ali ad on tv. he cant even speak. but they prop him up there with starlets while he just sits there and shakes. couldn't they have done the same for joe?

The same reason they would choose someone like Michael Jordan over Charles Barkley. Ali was the better athlete therefore gets more attention, and rightfully so.

I'm not sure if Frazier ever cared about the commercials and the movies. If he did, he would've done it. By all accounts he was a rather down-to-earth man who only cared about respect.

smokin Joe Frazier the first man to beat Muhammad Ali(Cassius Clay);
he was a classic example - that small men like Tyson, can beat taller, heavier opponents!

When i have more time i will post a narrative about how Joe influenced my life and such. It might not be that interesting, but its the least i can do for the man.

tears in my eyes....I had no clue he was sick....My father passed from cancer in June. I feel like i'm losing another. They're closer to us then we think huh? I never really thought of boxers as father figures, but thats what a role model really is init? Even if you've never met. I'm ****ing hurt. When your boxer wins you win, and when he loses you do too......
