I think he is, I mean you could make arguments for Toney, Hopkins,Mayweather or even Kirk Johnson(when his head is in the game). Can you really knock Cotto on anything in his arsenal?

View Full Version : Is Miguel Cotto the most technically sound fighter around? Can you really knock Cotto on anything in his arsenal? bigdlb12 10-01-2004, 02:50 PM Cotto is a good fighter, I cant believe I pick Pinto to win over him. I dont know why I dislike Cotto but I can seem him hanging in there with some top dawgs later on in the future. Future Champ abdiel2k3 10-01-2004, 02:53 PM ya hes defintalythe best of teh young guys but some of the guys with longer teeth are maye just a little better he just really needs to work on dat right his last fight was the only time ive seen it be significant and dat was after pinto was hurt from so many lefts oldgringo 10-01-2004, 03:03 PM Best all around skill set in the game in my opinion. No real weak points...one of the most comfortable, composed fighters in the ring. Bad ass left hook to boot. m00ks 10-01-2004, 03:06 PM ya hes defintalythe best of teh young guys but some of the guys with longer teeth are maye just a little better he just really needs to work on dat right his last fight was the only time ive seen it be significant and dat was after pinto was hurt from so many lefts Longer teeth means longer reach? Cuz I'll agree. Other than EM and B-hop, I can't think of anybody who works that well inside right now. When you box him though, it seems to be effective, so I dunno. baya 10-01-2004, 03:20 PM Longer teeth means longer reach? Cuz I'll agree. Other than EM and B-hop, I can't think of anybody who works that well inside right now. When you box him though, it seems to be effective, so I dunno. longer in the tooth means more age, more experienced. cotto has an all around real good game. i just wonder about his right, dude who said that he couldn't tell about cottos right is correct, pinto was already really hurt by all those lefts when the rights landed. i think the only one w/ the all around game like that is hopkins now a days. only thing mayweather lacks is power. Hurlex 10-01-2004, 03:33 PM his is goof but yeah he does have 2 problems..well 3 if u count pinto-when boxing him and not being a idiot and rushing in..actully kept cotto away but either way here are the 2 1-reach(that can hurt him if a big pucnher(ex:gatti) and hime come in at the same time..cuz guest who's gonna connect first 2-he leaves himself open for right hands to much...but had great body defense .::|ULTIMATE|::. 10-01-2004, 03:49 PM He is one of the best prospects/contenders around. Hurlex 10-01-2004, 03:58 PM didnt he win a belt? if i am wrong i am sorry..but if he has a belt he no longer a prospect...now he's a contendr to get a shot..i hope he's not stupid and goes for winner of KT/shambra..he better take easier fights..if he cant beat floyd or gatti...he shouldnt jump into a fight with KT/mitchelle... or he can fight v.harris-(where is this guy anyway..whats his next fight?) .::|ULTIMATE|::. 10-01-2004, 04:00 PM didnt he win a belt? if i am wrong i am sorry..but if he has a belt he no longer a prospect...now he's a contendr to get a shot..i hope he's not stupid and goes for winner of KT/shambra..he better take easier fights..if he cant beat floyd or gatti...he shouldnt jump into a fight with KT/mitchelle... or he can fight v.harris-(where is this guy anyway..whats his next fight?) I think Cotto should fight KT if he beats Sharmba. Hurlex 10-01-2004, 04:05 PM dude u think cotto is ready for KT..well i would love to see it but..remember vargas..were they sent him in there to fast with strong hitters..i dont think cotto is ready but would love to see that fight..i would take KT though by ko..i dont think cotto has ever felt that kind of power..and if it was KT who cotto was rushing like he did pinto and throwing that many left hooks leaving his right side open..i think KT would have connected hella times...but either way..good times :D i wanna see KT vs floyd...i dont care what anyone saids..corley shook floyd a couple of times and KT is faster/stronger/better abilities..then corley Ranger2408 10-01-2004, 04:05 PM cotto won the wbo belt i believe Hurlex 10-01-2004, 04:07 PM ...or shambra whoever wins i am seeing the rematch but whon one the first..i have herd to sides of the story one saying shambra was just getting into it when his leg went out...and another saying thats crap..KT was beating his ass anyway..so i dont know..we'll see the nov. realheavyhands 10-01-2004, 04:29 PM cotto fights exactly like tyson inside and out... he is the best inside fighter since tyson.. and act grown already with a wife and kid.. i dont even think zu can beat him ChrististheAnswer 10-01-2004, 04:32 PM cotto fights exactly like tyson inside and out... he is the best inside fighter since tyson.. and act grown already with a wife and kid.. i dont even think zu can beat him I don't think Tyzsu can beat him either. Hurlex 10-01-2004, 04:33 PM so you think cotto will dominate the division? .. Jiggaman6810 10-01-2004, 05:00 PM If Cotto works a little more on his foot work and gets a few more fights i think he could beat just about anybody. Gatti, Tszyu, all of em. He is the future of the divsion, but he needs to take it one step at a time. ChrististheAnswer 10-01-2004, 05:02 PM so you think cotto will dominate the division? .. Eventually, but we can't forget MAyweather is in that division as well. Plus Shmabra Mitchell. Sir_Jose 10-01-2004, 05:29 PM Lets not get carried away. Cotto is a nice prospect and all but come on now. No way he is more sound than guys like Bernard Hopkins or James Toney. Those guys have proven there skills and techniques over years and against legit world class competion. Double 10-01-2004, 05:31 PM I like Cotto, a small man's Tyson. I wouldn't call him the best technical fighter though, maybe one of the best boxer-punchers. realheavyhands 10-01-2004, 05:44 PM yea pretty boy floyd .. now that would be suttin oldgringo 10-01-2004, 06:52 PM Lets not get carried away. Those guys have proven there skills and techniques over years and against legit world class competion. In terms of raw technical skill I think Cotto is a step below. He is still very young and he could refine his abilities. Hop and JT are just so experienced and crafty that they know what to do in almost any situation. Toney is a much better defensive fighter and is a better counter puncher...Hop is much better at picking his opponents apart slowly. They both have that old school style and toughness that sets them apart from other fighters...something that Cotto doesn't have. Hit the nail right on the head bigdlb12 10-01-2004, 07:00 PM who do you think hits harder? KT or Gatti? Who is a better fighter to face Cotto? And why? Sir_Jose 10-01-2004, 07:07 PM Kostya Tszyu's power is head and shoulders better than Gatti's. There not even in the same class in skills or power in my opnion Gatti's power has gotten highly overrrated lately. People think Gatti is a huge puncher because he fights 4th rate guys and comes into the fight 10-15lbs heavier than the guy he fighting. Who has Gatti KO'ed recently that was worth anything? and no im not impressed by him beating a 5'3 lightweight. Gatti is not an A level fighter, while Tszyu is one of the 3 best at 140 in the past 25 years. Gatti would be the much easier fight for Cotto. realheavyhands 10-01-2004, 07:16 PM naw man cottos syle is very old school bigdlb12 10-01-2004, 07:30 PM Kostya Tszyu's power is head and shoulders better than Gatti's. I remember what he said b4 fighting DLH, "he has never been in the ring with a hard hitter like me" LMAO WTF? What about Trinidad? Hurlex 10-01-2004, 07:44 PM wait i thought gatti could do that-cant he?i am talking about the weight..i thought you just had to make weight and then you could go up...but i understand what ur saying..look at santos coming in 10 pound heavier then margarito in there fight (and still could ko or drop margarito but was getting hurt)..but anyway is that illegal or something for u to had weight for fight..i didnt think so but whatever i think cotto will have problems with guys that are strong and can come in from the right side good like S. mitchelle...but besides that i can see him beating alot of other fighter .::|ULTIMATE|::. 10-01-2004, 11:46 PM dude u think cotto is ready for KT..well i would love to see it but..remember vargas..were they sent him in there to fast with strong hitters..i dont think cotto is ready but would love to see that fight..i would take KT though by ko..i dont think cotto has ever felt that kind of power..and if it was KT who cotto was rushing like he did pinto and throwing that many left hooks leaving his right side open..i think KT would have connected hella times...but either way..good times :D i wanna see KT vs floyd...i dont care what anyone saids..corley shook floyd a couple of times and KT is faster/stronger/better abilities..then corley I feel Cotto being so technically sound, much more than KT would exploit's KT's limited defence and mobility. KT is also older now. The more Cotto waits the more likely the chance someone is gonna steal the glory by beating him to a KT win. Zhen 10-01-2004, 11:48 PM Cotto is not the most technically sound in the present, the honor belongs to a tie between Pretty Boy Floyd and Hopkins. But Cotto isn't far behind, and he looks only to improve. realheavyhands 10-02-2004, 12:04 AM hopkins is on another level then any fighter near 160... he knocked out delahoya with a body shot.. delahoya fought a roided up shane mosley who could bench 365 and dead lift 500 and i think oscur won the second fight....he fought a roided vargas and knocked him out he beat tito too in my book....i think he should get in great shape and go down to 147 and dominate oscar that is Sir_Jose 10-02-2004, 01:51 AM wait i thought gatti could do that-cant he?i am talking about the weight..i thought you just had to make weight and then you could go up...but i understand what ur saying..look at santos coming in 10 pound heavier then margarito in there fight (and still could ko or drop margarito but was getting hurt)..but anyway is that illegal or something for u to had weight for fight..i didnt think so but whatever i think cotto will have problems with guys that are strong and can come in from the right side good like S. mitchelle...but besides that i can see him beating alot of other fighter You CAN do it, but it doesn't mean its right. Fighting a disciplined, controlled fight is great but there's gonna be a time where Miguel is going to have to FIGHT.
