View Full Version : Worst fight ever?

In light of the recent hopkins vs. dawson fight this seems as good a time as any to ask this question. Boxing has received a lot of criticism for it's farce events as well as it's role in the death and mental impairment of it's fighters. Which fight in your estimation deserves the crown of the worst to have ever occurred? It could be because it damaged the sport or because it was simply anticlimactic or a robbery.

From recent times I'd say haye harrison

Haye - Harisson is the worst in recent years. First thing that came to my mind.

Ali-Young was a dreadful fight was a bad decision. But it didn't really shake up the boxing world with controversy.

The people who paid to see Dawson-Hopkins were pissed, but luckily not many people did.

Historically speaking, Ali-Liston II had the most damage on boxing. People were still outraged years later, sure that they had witnessed a fixed fight. Liston was literally blackballed out of boxing.

The Hopkins-Jones rematch was pathetic like nothing I've ever seen. We all knew Jones was done, and seeing the way Hopkins fought I was convinced he was just as done. Did either fighter land a meaningful punch in that fight?

I had 15 people over for DeLaHoya-Trinidad. At least 10 of them vowed never to watch boxing (between they hype, promise, running, and the decision) ever again.....and thet stuck to it. Not the worst fight in terms of action (though it stunk), but definitely the fight that I think really set the sport back.

If we're going in terms of pure lousiness, there are many John Ruiz fights to choose from.

It was sad seeing Ali as a shadow of himself, but strangely I found the fight quite entertaining and competitive. Ali wasn't nearly as bad as he was against Holmes.........

Now Ali vs Holmes was truely painful to watch!

Naseem Hamed-Cesar Soto, its more like a wrestling 3-count.

Roy Jones vs Rick Frazier.

surprised Ali vs. Holmes hasn't been mentioned more. A legend of the sport brutalised despite being so far gone he could barely win a shadow boxing match. All for the benefit of casinos and tv. Not to mention all the idiocy building up to it with ali being given muscle destroying drugs to keep his weight down.

Also this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SrCVph8-u0) was fairly depressing.

bradley and alexander has to be on the list considering that it almost bankrupted HBO boxing and ate about 1/4 of its budget for the year for off ppv

and heads rolled after that one, too.

mosley and pacquiao was a bit let down too

and lots of the fights this year on solo boxeo tecate. bad matchmaking and record padding

that might be the worst boxing show on TV. the only exciting fights are the swing bouts with nobodies // club fighters swingin for four rounds

froch vs dirrell

for some reason, and i'm not complaining, bad fights just dont stay in mind for long

And after the Kotelnyk fight. Unbelievable what they'll do for a hypejob.

As long as they keep a pay per view system buyers remorse will ensure bad fights lead to a loss of fans. It's such clear short-termism.

in arums//kings case i cant say i blame the guy

after all, those guys are in their 80's

there's no fifteen year plan for them

the rest of them are very guilty and you make a great point

Some terribly boring fights that left me wishing I didn't waste the time watching....

Pacquiao Margarito
Pacquiao Mosley
Pacquiao Clottey
Haye Klitschko
Marquez Ramos
Williams Cintron
Hopkins Jones 2
Tyson Etienne

It seems more so in recent times that fights that nobody wants to see. Arum is notorious for putting on terrible cards.

Tyson vs Etienne was a one round knockout, hardly boring...........albeit short!

Trinidad-Camacho was a bad fight because of Macho's constant hugging. Whenever Tito landed a good punch or a combination, Macho'd hug him as a lost relative. And it was even worse since Trinidad couldn't ko him. Nobody kos Macho.

Guys Eteinne took a laydown. Not sure how you find it entertaining to see a guy just take a dive. Same with the Ramos fight.

That qualifies to me as one of the worst fights, because it wasn't a fight at all, but more like a hoax.

As far as the Williams Cintron fight - yeah it was a good fight but it's my opinion that Cintron purposely took a dive making it one of the worst fights I have seen. Just like Hopkins this past weekend. Add that to the list as well. PHONY endings.

Eteinne has admitted that he went into the fight with every intention of lying down. No question he got hit, but was he lights out as he tried to make it seem? So out, that he was able to pull his mouth piece and then lay still? I don't buy it.

He almost pulled out of the fight completely, but decided he would go in anyway and just lie down to get the money. I believe he made 900k.

Paz actually won the second round, though it appeared Jones took it off to gauge Vinny's power and ability.

I've seen less convincing KOs.. For what reason would Etienne tank it? It's possible he just gave up like Douglas against Holyfield but it was a hard shot he got nailed with and it's not like Etienne was known for his durability anyway. It was more convincing than Seldon who got knocked out by a gust of wind.
