View Full Version : Vitali Klitscko`s next fight??

I believe he has to fight his mandatory next which i believe is none other than Baby Joe mesi. Mesi has submitted medical papers recently trying to get cleared to fight but i don`t know if that is the next fight. Garanteed opponents not fighting Vitali are Don King boys as they are heading a March pay per view ( Golota/Brewster and maybe Ruiz`s mandatory against Rahman ).

James Toney the WBC number 2 ranked is an option but i don`t see it as he hasn`t fought cosistantly enough lately to wanna step in with the 6`7 Vitali.

Monte Barrett would be available if he beats Owen Beck ( ehhh, horrible one sided fight ) or Micheal Moorer ( double ouch ). I think either Vitali will fight a B level fighter or he will wait like eight months till an opponent of some clout can be found.
What are your thoughts. Remember, the question isn`t WHO should be next cos thats easy, Rahman, Ruiz, Byrd ( impossible matches, under King banner ) it is WHO will be the next opponent going by availability and promoters!

Not a good comeback fight for Mesi after the brain problems, they won't take it.

Is Rahman a Don King fighter now? I get the impression that he is. The Rahman/Meehan fight was announced as a WBC/IBF eliminator. So if Rahman were to beat Vitali, King would own all 4 belts. I'd much rather see Vitali fight Toney.

I thought Rahman became VK's mandatory after the Meeham fight. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Rahman should be his next opponent and it would make for an interesting title defense because an in shape Rahman is dangerous.

Yeah, if Vitali fought Toney that would be nice
I don't think Rahman poses a real threat to Klitschko
I mean, sure he destroyed Meehan, But what heavyweight couldnt?

is there anyone that VK HAS TO fight?

If he can, he needs to get an equal risk from his opponent, to make it interesting and worth it as champ.

:D

Ok, i went to the WBC website and got some info. The offical ratings at heavyweight are:
CHAMPION:
VITALI KLITSCHKO (UKRAINE)

WON TITLE: April 24, 2004

LAST DEFENSE:

LAST COMPULSORY: April 24, 2004

WBA CHAMPION: John Ruiz (P. Rico)

IBF CHAMPION: Chris Byrd (US)
WBO CHAMPION: Lamont Brewster (US)

Contenders:

WBC INT. CHAMPION: Sinan Samil Sam (Turkey)

1. James Toney (US)
2. Hasim Rahman (US)
3. Monte Barrett (US)
4. Owen Beck (Jamaica)
5. Oleg Maskaev (Uzbekistan)
6. Andrew Golota (Poland)
7. Danny Williams (GB)
8. Jamel McCline (US)
9. Sinan Samil Sam (Turkey) INTL
10. Samuel Peter (Nigeria) NABF
11. Luan Krasniqi (Germany) EBU
12. Faruq Saleem (US)
13. Mike Tyson (US)
14. Nicolay Valouev (Russia)
15. Timo Hoffmann (Germany)

Joe Mesi has been dropped because of his medical issues and so has Riddick Bowe. I would imagine an eliminator between Rahman and Toney or Toney being made the mandatory challenger. The fight between Rahman and Meehan was an IBF eliminator for the number two spot, not a WBC sanctioned fight.

That's what I thought, but Michael Buffer announced the Meehan/Rahman fight as an IBF/WBC eliminator.

Well, as u can see above. James Toney has the number one slot. Maybe there will be an eliminator between Toney and Rahman. That wouldn`t be a bad match actually. I`d pick Toney probably on point or late stoppage but Rahmans right hand would keep him in with a chance!

I'd like to see the Toney vs. Rahman fight as well. If Rahman uses his jab, Rahman wins. If not, he loses by decision, provided Toney can keep hitting him for the entire fight, as I doubt Toney can stop Rahman. I'll be rooting for Rahman if it ever happens, I can't stand JT, he's a loud mouthed *****.

this would make more sense...have toney and Rahman fight to see who really is the deserved manditory at the title shot.. in the meantime, try to make one of the champs the actual TITLE holder to beat, the 'real' champ.

They said he is gonna fight Rahman too. In june. The other fight just to make extra bucks. And Vit also has a huge fan base in Germany. Why not make them happy.

I think Klitscko wantgs an easy defense before facing a Rahman, Byrd or Toney. I guess so far he has done everything asked of him and deserves a hometown defense. I think it might be that guy who beat Gerard Nobles a few month back or some one like Micheal Moorer, low risk payday!

You mean Valuev. That guy is 7.2 and 320. I saw him fight and he did not impress me at all. Too slow, does not have the power to back up his size, does not throw combinations much, not explosive at all.Only fought bums.

Yes, his KO rate is not high, but he KOed Vidoz, an Olympic bronze medalist, by punching on his SHOULDERS.

I wonder, if he manages to land a punch on someone's chin, would that be an instant KO?

So far I hear that Valuev is not a good boxer at all, but he seems to be very intelligent.

I liked his interviews that I have read in the Soviet Sport.

I doubt that he would take on VK or WK at this point of his career.

Yes, but a loss would hurt potential future earnings. Why doesn't Vitali just sign with Don King? He could get Kali Meehan next at just 50 dollars to us and another guaranteed win!

He would be the first hairybacked champion of the 21st century.

Sorry, second, I forgot about Christy Martin.

If these economic considerations take place, this means that Vitaliy may not be entirely confident of the outcome of his fight with Rahman.

I thought that Ruiz is one, but I have not checked carefully.

How do you know Valuev is hairybacked?

Valuev-Ruiz will be the most boring fight in the history of HW championship bouts.

The official word came down from Jose Sulaiman and Don King that Barrett is facing Rahman on July 23rd for the WBC interim title and then the winner will face Vitali Klitschko possibly in September for the true title.

Rahman/Barrett won't be the champ because from what I understood a current champion cannot lose their belt on account of being injured. This interim title is pure bull****.
