View Full Version : Answer this for me.
Where in the hell did Tito get his power from?

Im serious. I dont get it. The guy is skinny to say the least....and he did not catch everyone on the end of his punches.
Weird.
Dirt E Gomez 10-21-2005, 10:05 PM Are you suggesting it's the mystery of the hand wraps? Throwing a good punch isn't all about muscle and there is form to it. But I do agree, he packs a punch for being relatively stringy.
Truth 10-21-2005, 10:06 PM Tito doesn't look like a big puncher, but its the perfect example of don't judge a book by its cover.

haha, no.....I'm actually serious. Where does he get his power from?
He is one of the hardest punchers I have ever seen next to Iron Mike Tyson.
Calabrese 10-21-2005, 10:07 PM I don't really know. He's not a physical specimen some people just have a knack for punching though.
ELPacman 10-21-2005, 10:11 PM He must have a high metabolism. He eats a lot, thus he has a lot of fat on him, though can work out, which gives him added strength to that fat. It's almost like being punched by a fat person with a small person's body. At least this is what I believe. Aside from that though, it really does have to do with form. The way you plant your feet and twist your body with the punch. Small details that you don't really notice though the guy throwing the power punch does.
I don't really know. He's not a physical specimen some people just have a knack for punching though.
Yeah....thats what I am beginning to think. Look at all the people he knocked out.
Joppy
Tito was the only person to ever stop him and he made it look easy. William's chin was granite and still is IMO.
Mayorga
His chin is I suppose excellent. I dont like the guy, but I will give him that due.
Hugo Pineda
It took KT like untill the last round to stop him, and Tito once again made it look easy in four rounds.
Troy Waters
Tough guy who was only stopped by Terrible Terry in the early rounds.....and went the distance with a host of tough guys. Tito knocked him out in the first
Rodger Turner
he administered him his first loss by stoppage, and this guy went the distance with Yori boy.
I also can't count the others who he adminstered their first loss by knockout.
Round 1 10-21-2005, 10:26 PM I don't really know. He's not a physical specimen some people just have a knack for punching though.
Its a rare breed of fighters, Carlos Zarate, Hearns, and Arguello really packed a punch for being of very slender physique.

Yeah, but Hearns and Arguello were notorious for catching people at the end of their punches where they had the most power.
Tito could punch equally as hard throwing compact ones.
I suppose I should be asking the same question about Diego Corrales.

True, another strength these fighters possess is their strength to take a punch, it really takes another extraordinary fighter to Knock'em out.
Manny_P 10-21-2005, 10:38 PM it's all about ta gloves!!!!!!!! He wore that thick ass Grant gainst Winky fo ****'s sake
Cleto Reyes= Lethal!
Ukr_Alex 10-21-2005, 10:40 PM He gets his power from speed, no not the drug.
Riptor 10-21-2005, 10:40 PM Technique does it all. Some of the hardest punchers in the gyms around here are the little guys or the stringy guys. Look at trinidads left hook he almost looks like he is doing a hook out of a book. Picture perfect. Look at Tommy hearns no legs under him but his right hand was like a cannon shot and look at coralles. no legs either. There is more to punching than muscle. If only having muscles were the case then weightlifters, and football players would rule the planet.

I never said anything about muscle.
I was talking about frame. Look how skinny Trinidad is.
Oscar is way wider in the shoulders, and is a bigger man despite being shorter. You could not tell that by their punches.
Size is not Muscle. Im talking about natural size.

Its easy man.
Power= Force
Force= mass X acceleration(velocity/time)
Higher acceleration conpenscates for low mass, hence a man can have arms like tree trunks but might throw a slow punch, and skinny ass d00de with big speed in his hands will punch just as hard as the 200lb guy.
Now speed comes from technique. Certain ways of punching yield higher speed. Go do some shadow punching and see which punch gives you the most speed. For me its my jab(obviously), but when you jab there is very little weight behind the force to provide a strong punch.
So you have to find your perfect punch, something were you can use the most of your body weight withouht sacrificing too much speed. ;) Different for everyone because everyones muscles are developed to different levels, hence there is no one real devistating punch that everyone can throw, because its different for everyone.

Yeah that is a really good post.
My hardest punch is a right hook from the orthodox position, and I think I am skinny at 6'2 190.
BadMagick 10-21-2005, 11:49 PM Yeah that is a really good post.

You mean a cross?
You mean a cross?
Either from southpaw or orthodox. whatever.

Well, you said:

You don't throw a right hook standing orthodox, you throw a right cross. From southpaw, yeah, it's a hook.

Awesome! thanks man!
Tha Greatest 10-22-2005, 02:21 AM Hearns, Jackson, McLellan, and Cuevas...
All punch WAY harder than Trinidad.
but Trinidad still punches ****in hard.
ottoevans 10-22-2005, 02:36 AM he was born with it. Of course he had to box for 20 years to get it down but he was born with it.
Look at a QB like Brett Farve or Drew Bledsoe? They are not muscular but they have cannons
Eric Persson 10-22-2005, 03:48 AM We havent figured it out yet, why some people have power and some dont. So right now, fighters are born with or without it, end of story.

That is simply my damn point. You are the first person to view this situation like I do. I need facts.
Untill then. It is still a mystery to me. There have been some excellent posts on this thread.....but this is my question.
Zab Super Judah 10-22-2005, 05:53 AM Yup power isnt about the way someone's muscles are. Some doods just have punching power. I remember when i was younger, I one of m yfriends would hit me. It was totally different from when anyone else hit me. It felt liek his hands were made of granite.
Zab Super Judah 10-22-2005, 05:59 AM Yeah, but Hearns and Arguello were notorious for catching people at the end of their punches where they had the most power.

I suppose I should be asking the same question about Diego Corrales.
diego corrales looks like someone that hits hard and he does hit hard. He is tall and lanky and is starting to grow into his body.
Corrales is more of a pure one shot KO artist then TITO
Corrales is able to throw a punch without much leverage and still KO another boxer
Tito on the other hand throws everything he has into that left hook of this. (Trinidad is my fav. fighter and I have always wondered how he hit so hard also)

monkeyboy 10-22-2005, 07:35 AM All down to speed at impact. Many of the best fighters do no weights as muscle and bulk is a negative on speed. Tyson still had some pop when he was older but far less than when he was light and fast. Also with the speed comes greater accuracy. More likely to catch the right area with no impediment or turning with the punch.
The opposite is the sheer momentum of a wide flung heavyweight hook. Momentum and weight will knock you down and rattle you. I prefer a Tito knockout myself. Fast and beautiful.

tsk tsk tsk..
Sneaking in another excuse for Pac.
