not being a christian who believes in Jesus Christ makes you a satanist by default. To follow Christ you have to make a choice to follow the devil you simply have to do nothing so technically you are one.

I intend to watch it in the privacy of my own home. The blood and gore is one thing; the fact that it's coming from Jesus and the abuse He went through is my problem. Blood and gore dont bother me (I'm a paradox; horror is my favorite type of books and movies) but coming from Jesus is another story.

For a mainstream, big budget movie it was gorey. And unlike an action film it focused on prolonged suffering that was depicted realistically.
IMO it is a film made by Mel Gibson a born again christian for a christian audience. It doesnt try to let u get to know Jesus, as it asumes u already know who he is.
I dont think the bible tells u much about him really, more what he did.
To me, the film reflects christianity in as much as it focuses on his suffering and exploits ur sympathy for an innocent man. Basically playing on ur GUILT.
Much in the same way that The Excorist was a great advert for Christianity through FEAR.
The Christ doesnt attempt to show how Jesus effected peoples lives through the good he did, it just shows wat he endured for our sins. The symbol of Christianity is him nailed to a cross, dead. Not rising. Not performing miracles, but murdered for our wrong doings.

The biblical description is pretty gruesome. IE his back was made as a ploughed field, he was not recognisable as a man, they tore his beard out, spat on him, he was punched while blindfolded they teach you in boxing to roll with the punches, no way, he would have taken the full impact of each blow. he was absolutely humiliated for our sakes. Many prophecies in the old testament allude to the events of those three days and he fulfilled every single one of them. no mean feat if he faked it, indeed quite impossible.

Not a whole colony of people led by Joshua, whose existence as leading these chose people has never been unearth by archeologist in the area.

Arabs are dirty for committing GENOCIDE on the people of Africa. Namely Sudan. Trying to force them to convert from their faiths to be Muslims. Millions have been displaced from their homeland and more than 100,000 have been murdered by Arab thugs and a Sudanese government that is more interested in their personal wealth than the well being of their people.

Christians are the dirtiest of the dirty. Christians invented these methods of conversion. If you don't like it, take it out on your fellow Christian leaders, the ones who refuse to clean up their own house when it comes to pedophile priests.

It's not racism but it is certainly an inaccurate generalization. You shouldn't judge an entire religion based on the practices of a few. Are all catholics Pedophiles? Are all Muslims terrorists? The answer is no. And all Jews do not support the oppression of Palistinians. I do not think you have a very firm grasp of history.

Lexi, true knowledge, education and understanding of human history can't be debated. Most people who are "believers" have never ventured there because to do so would contradict the precepts of their faith. So it's one or the other, in their minds. When truth is, you can be a "believer" and have a solid educational background in theology. I've found research on the original manuscripts of biblical texts to be fascinating ****.

One of my aunts is a really religious person, but she has no real knowledge of theology and where her belief system comes from. When I told her Iraq was Mesopotamia, the second most mentioned place in the Bible next to what is now Israel, she was in disbelief. But she wouldn't know the difference between Afghanistan and Idaho. Most "believers" aren't very educated people. Faith, unfortunately, is rooted in ignorance. You don't ask questions. You just believe. Sorry, that's how they manipulated slaves.

Very very very true. But those who think organized religion is the exception, that is a panacea for such aggressions against each other, humanity and other nations, then they're sadly mistaken. They can look to their Bible, Koran or the Book of Mormon all they want. History proves them wrong. What people like CITA fail to realize is I'm not speaking from my opinion. It's fact. It's history. Don't speak about something you know little about, and generalize saying the whole of the Bible is fraudulent. Even secular scholars of biblical history would shame and laugh at you for that.

2) CITA has barely posted in this thread, and yet he is being attacked viciously for no real reason. I love how liberals are supposed to be for freedom of speech, but as soon as someone mentions God, it's time to shut up. The way some of you have acted (not all of you) reminds me of past historical events where religious intolerance has led to deadly massacres. I think some of you need a history lesson. Secularists and people who are hateful towards peaceful religious people have killed, and killed a plenty.

I actually read the New Testament three times in my younger days. There are some questionable passages in there, but I won't bash religion.

I think the problem is, S_L (Hello, first time I've posted in this thread, btw) is that INCITA basically comes over as a santimonious little prick who needs seven shades of **** kicked out of him.

Bearing in mind INCITA is probably a good deal younger than most of the people he's trying to convert, there's an audacity there. Not only that, but the fact that he doesn't address people as equals but preaches down to people is obviously going to get up people's noses.

The guy's opening stance is that we're all beneath him and less honourable as people for the topics that we discuss (bearing in mind he also has absolutely no concept of irony whatsoever) and he's there telling us what inferior people we are, how immoral we are, and how he's so superior to us.

Any sane, rational response to that kind of misplaced, unnecessary arrogance is obviously going to end with the phrase "**** yo mama." It's just perfectly natural under the circumstance.

I don't think - though I'm not speaking for anyone here - that anyone has anything against religion per se, it's just an easy tool to wind up the original poster.

I highlighted two points, just as i thought they were questionable.

Firstly, from my experience as a church goer for 17 years i believe that the vast majority of christians dont really know where their religion comes from, or have studied the bible.

And secondly, religion itself and its intolerance of other religions has caused widespread mass murder throughout history.

Plus i just wanna say, CITA, has irritated me on several occasions by not realising that anything goes, by contributing to a thread by saying "This thread should be closed, you cant say that".
