I'm a small guy. I'm 18, Filipino, 5'7 and I only weigh 125. I've been trying for ages to get my weight up but no luck due to a fast metabolism.

This is my build during the summer.

I don't have a more recent shot, but chances are, I've probably lost some of what I already had because I moved out of my parents house and haven't been able to eat as good.

Problem is, and a lot of people with my ethnicity, (Filipino) have this issue - no matter how much I eat I can never gain weight. To an extent, this is good. But I do need to gain weight.

How should I go about this?

I am exactly like that. I am 5' 7" and weight around 125 too. I have weighed the same for ages and I will turn 23 years old in December.

Rather be 5'7" and 220 pounds.

More acceptable to be asian and skinny as a rail.

I used to be that way. I'm 5'4" and got up to 132 4% body fat when I was 19-20. I filled out to 145 without even working out for 5 years and about 12-15% body fat.

Now I'm 160 and need to hit the gym but the body doesn't like it. It's been on vacation too long.

My bro is 6' and 145 and skinny like a rail. I bet 8 years or so he'll get to 180-185 and fill out.

im not being racist or nuttin but do u eat chinese food alot cause if u do food usually like that u shit out quicker and it breaks down in your body quicker. eat fryed foods

I doubt its anything to do with your race mate, just the food your eating. Ive always been a slim build untill lately ive started putting on weight (muscles :p ) Have you tried, protein shakes, weight gainers? Have a look around some bodybuilding websites, loads of helpfull info. Try eating as many complex carbs, protein as possible. Potato's, brown rice, boiled eggs, steak, chicken, ice cream all help you put on them extra pounds. www.musclechat.co.uk :)

Yeh if you really have porblems gaining weight I would start at looking on youre diet. Read up on bulking IMO

I eat pretty casually. Now that I'm on my own, I eat out a lot. I'd say I eat Chinese once a week, pizza once a week, pasta once a week, and the other two days are devoted to meats, like fried chicken or steak. I do, however, skip breakfast. This is because I wake up at 10am and am never hungry.

Anyways, I'm also Filipino, but ma problem is, I gain weight rapid cuz I eat pizza, nburgers and shyt!!! BUT Ma exercise and workout rate is amazing. I'm always physically active and it has kept me from gettin fat. LOL!!!!!!! Right now I weigh 135, but I'll probably drop a pound when I go out today. Technique, if you wanna get fat. Eat pizza. Especially befo you sleep and drink soda. Once you've gain weight/fat, then jest build yer body from thurrr. Ma body look sensational right now when I'm 133. I'm Pacquiao's height by ta way.

plain and simple man you must find the diet that works for you, I eat every night way after 7 pm like they say you are not supposed to because you will gain wait and your body wont break it down yada yada and I eat lots of carbs like 3 sandwiches a day, peanut butter and bananna sandwich for breakfast with atleast 4 cups of coffee daily and I still only weigh about 150lbs I'm 22 have been this weight for 6 years now I went up to 160 then like 3 days later I dont know why I was back down to 150.

Sometimes you just have to find what works for you if your body doesnt want you to be huge you wont be unless you manipulate the rules with illegal substances. Stay away from the roid kid listen to me there, I mean there is no benefit to this in any way other than getting huge but once you stop them if you stop training your going to be all fat and it's really hard to get that muscle back.

why on earth do you want ot get larger?!!? aren't all boxers trying to lose weight, have a height/reach advantage?
you want to be 5'7 and....160? 168?
if it is just for looks, sure! but boxing, stay low. I am 6'0 and trying to get down to 160 (7lbs to go)

4 cups of coffee?, man drink a banana shake or something, not coffee. u look at nutritional value of milk it is fattening low protein but high calcium... more milk and bread will slow ur metabloism.

like anything, if its moderation u should be right, same wif roids and any drug for that matter.. alot of brain/ head injury and other hospital patients require steroids to repair damaged cells and spur more growth.

Having a fast metobolic isnt that of a deal, having a slow rate is a killer. Just eat more calories, your body has a limit to how much it can burn and you will find it. The average person is 2500Kcals per day.......

You will be glad of it when your older.

yo Ike, im like u with high metabolism as hell. U being skinny has everything to do wid ur diet. U gotta work out a plan which outdoes your metabolism, something like this:

Get protein powder with both 20+g protein and 20+g carb per scoop
Non workout days:1 scoop wid milk start of day, 1 near the end
Workout days: same as above, 2 scoops after workout with water

3 meals + 3 snacks per day- have something like tuna for snacks.

Are your main meals 90% rice & vegies + 10% meat? Thats the recipe for staying skinny, u need to balance the percentage with red meat. What u put in is what u get out. It sounds like u dont have the time with all ur moving out and not eating good so hope it works out goodluck!

If u wanna get bigger put your body into a caloric surplus meaning eat more than you do now if you want size you should be eating bout 140g's of proteine a day so i suggest you invest in proteine shakes,peanut butter,chicken and beans

u might have 2 be abit lazier if u wanna put weight on... laze around the house on weekends or wheneva u can when u not training, and pig out.
i did that was like 10kg overweight.

why do you want to gain weight first off? and the only way you are going to get bigger (healthy) is lifting weights. High weight, low reps.

Why are you tryin' to gain weight?
Anyways, don't rush it you're just 18 yrs of age. Give your body time to develop it will fill up at about 20. If not then there's always weight training.

I'm in the same boat. I've been trying to grain weight for years now and it doesn't work :(

I'm 5'10" and weight 130. I would like to weigh about 140 - 150. But I've given up because my wallet can't support that much food every day lol. I was averageing around 5000 cals a day for about 3 months and gained about 5 lbs. I was using a weight gainer, creatine, No2, vitamins, lifting heavy weights, and eating plenty.

I found once I hit the 135 mark, I had to keep taking in that many cals a day. Needless to say, I got fed up with all and dropped back down to 130. Even though gaining weight is important to me, eating all that fat (from milk, ice cream etc.) sodium, simple carbs, sugars etc. takes it's toll on your body. I'd rather be really healthy, then weigh 150 and have some problems.

i dont know about u bro, but i gained 50 pounds in 20 months with minimal fat increase from eating alot with sum creatine in the last 8months or so. i stopped eating dat much afterwards and maintained my weight. its very hard gaining weight but its worth it.

Just eat alot of carbs and meat to bulk up. If this is really upsettig you, take creatine or protein powder. This stuff really works.
