Truth 12-24-2004, 07:58 PM I have no clue, good question :D  boxing fan 12-24-2004, 08:21 PM Maybe they should call it a "hey" maker because when someone lands one people watching say "Hey" Just kidding. Kid Achilles 12-24-2004, 09:26 PM That response made me smile! This place needs more innocent, good natured humor like that. Hurlex 12-24-2004, 09:59 PM yeah the some good holesome family fun right there :D Silverfox 12-24-2004, 10:04 PM It's because, when a farmer tosses the hay with a pitchfork, he uses a wide, swinging motion. Hence, the word, haymaker! mr. bojangles 12-24-2004, 10:54 PM I like that joke too. Merry Christmas boxing fan. :) BDBowe 12-24-2004, 11:17 PM i believe this was a question that someone asked harold lederman once. he gave a wierd answer but it seemed reasonable, wish i could remember waht it was KJ 12-25-2004, 03:28 AM It's because, when a farmer tosses the hay with a pitchfork, he uses a wide, swinging motion. Hence, the word, haymaker! Thought it was the swing motion of the reaper (device) they used to cut the hay. Had to swing it to make the hay. The Italian Stallion 12-25-2004, 03:44 AM A haymaker punch is a wide swinging punch where you put should power in. Also put your weight into it. !! Anorak 12-25-2004, 07:03 AM A haymaker punch is a wide swinging punch where you put should power in. Also put your weight into it. IS, I wasn't asking WHAT it was, I was asking WHY it was called that. wissy 12-25-2004, 11:14 AM The exact answer is on this website. jack_the_rippuh 12-25-2004, 12:30 PM the guy three replies ago said it best.. Silverfox 12-26-2004, 05:32 PM  Thought it was the swing motion of the reaper (device) they used to cut the hay. Had to swing it to make the hay. Correct. It is a scythe that is used. I heard that the two explanations can be made. One cuts the hay...while the pitchfork actually makes the stacks. I would probably tend to go more with the scythe aspect. |
