View Full Version : Is it just me? Or does it feel weird taking a punch after a long lay off?

Before my 3 month lay off, I would take a punch like it was NOTHING...

well I had a 3 month lay off, and it feels weird getting hit..

I remember I had a lay off a long time ago and when I started sparring I wasn't used to getting hit..

Well, I'll get back into it, and show the fighter I once was, my trainer is having me sparr at least 3 days a week..

So I should get it back sooner or later and whoop ass like i used to!

but it just feels weird getting hit right now....last time I got punched before 2 weeks ago was June 23rd...

and that day I was going toe to toe with a BIG banger...

I guess it's just the lay off...

yea if you don't sparr wit sum1 for a while and then finally get to sparr the punches feel almost harder...like ur not used to getting hit. give it a week or so before you get used to it.

It has more to do with your reflexes have gone away then feeling weird. Most people start to close their eyes when they hit and get hit after a layoff. The body just want to cover up instead of using defence moves.

I agree with zip, you start thinking too much when you have had a break rather then just relaxing and react.

I once had like a 6 months+ break, first 5 sparring sessions after I got back I mostly just went with my right hand planted at my abs and nicked alot of the hits with my forehead. Kinda forced myself to move again and got used to the hit and distance again.

nah man, just you, u gotta stop smoking that stikcy icky, cos that will get u glazed. jj
long layoff gives u ring rust, alot of consistent sparing and training over a short period will get u back on track.
