View Full Version : Is Lennox Lewis Ready For A Rematch With Vitali?
Mr. Violence 12-23-2004, 02:50 PM It's rumored that Lennox Lewis might come back to fight Vitali a second time. Question is: Does he need a few warm up fights out of retirement to get prepared for Vitali? And if so, how many warm up fights does he need?---- Or is Lennox Lewis good enough to go straight into a rematch with him and beat him?
atkins 12-23-2004, 03:01 PM 9 months away from fight shape... so Lennox says..
He could take the fight without a tune-up since he pretty much
knows the openings in Klit's style.
Would be tough though..

He may loose the warm-up fights... what then?
I think the safest strategy for him is to just have a single return fight.
If LL looses, his credibility and place in history won't be hurt by a bit. He will collect his >20M purse too.
A return fight is a win-win situation for LL, whether he wins or looses the actual fight.
I think VK-LL-II is quite likely to happen.
bigdaddy 12-23-2004, 03:21 PM I see we're going through another Lewis post as to wether he will fight or not.

well you have a choice not to enter my thread...if this thread aint to your liking...then get the fuk out-simple as that...there's tons of other threads you can go to.
Very good odds that Lewis-Klit 2 is brewing, but it better happen soon.
Lewis won't accept any warm-ups, because it only Klit that he wants. There's no BIG payday with anybody less than Klit.
Both guys NEED this fight to truly cement a legacy.
DR. FREECLOUD 12-23-2004, 03:49 PM by hte time he fights vitaly he will be in his 40s. that way when he looses he can say he was too old when he loses. lennox couldn't beat vitaly when he was younger in my book. why would he be able to as an old man. i know he won hte fight as far as the history books go but imo vitaly was the true winner.

How is it a win-win situation if he gets beat down especially since that is the most likely scenario?
Truth 12-23-2004, 06:39 PM Lennox shouldn't come back but if he does he has to really really want to win otherwise he wasting his time.
The problem is that if the fight do happen is that VK want get much respect even if he win.
If he loses he loses to an old LL and the division will be ****ed and if he wins many will just say he won because LL is old and rusty now.
But no matter that......i hope the fight will happen.

1. If he looses, he can say that he is old and past his prime, like Ali was in his come back fight. The loss would not hurt his legacy.
2. No matter what, he gets his 20M check.
oldgringo 12-23-2004, 07:02 PM I think Lennox will come back and this fight will happen. I also don't think that he was going to get beat down had the fight continued in their first fight...sure he was tired, but he was still landing some murderous punches on Vitali (uppercuts anyone  ). VK did very well against against Lewis and the rematch would/will be a very close bout. As for Vitali beating a prime Lennox...lets say the Lennox that pounded Tyson...that'd never happen.
I agree with Nautilus that it's somewhat of a win/win for Lenny. Losing to the prime HW champ when you are over the hill and retired isn't such a significant blemish that people will hold it against his career. And he gets the big payday.
Hurlex 12-23-2004, 08:30 PM Lenox is known to have ruled one of the weakest era's of HW in all of boxing...i mean i dont think Lenox would have ever made it in the 70's-80's HW division...and then on top of that his resume isnt very strong...with the exception of beating fighters that were already getting old and or "shot"....so i disagree...with all that critisism and everyone already thinking he had a easy divison to box threw...and then comes back and loses...i think that will just be the thing for everyone to say see he wasnt anything special
a VK/lewis rematch would have been interesting 6 months after the first fight...not now...if it would have happened after first fight it would have been a great fight that could have gone either way...but now...vitali has faced good opponent and won and has been active...lewis but no means will be ready and will get KTFO...that time away from the ring and his shape will mess him up
Lewis is doing this because he knows he "won" the fight, but didnt "beat" vitali..and manny people know that..there is no arguement (only from extreme vk fans) that he won...but he didnt beat VK..and thats whats everyone thinks and he does also and thats why he's coming back....plus i think he cares more about that 20mil this time around

$20 million wasn't worth being in somewhat of a close fight to Lewis, and $20 million sure isn't worth getting the beat down that he would get now.

maybe you are right, but who knows what's worth for Lewis
BrooklynBomber 12-23-2004, 08:49 PM I dont think that Lewis will come back. Too much risk. And in his age it is very dangerous to fight somebody like Vitaly. When you are 40 and you are a retired HW champ you should primarily think about your own health. No 20 millions will buy you new brain. Just look at Ali :(
PS.: Big Lebowski sure rocks. Love that movie :)

who is Big Lebowski?
BrooklynBomber 12-23-2004, 08:55 PM "The Big Lebowski". Very good movie. Oldgringo has it on avatar.
ELPacman 12-23-2004, 09:50 PM I think Vitali will pick up where he left off. He's gotten his confidence up. He's got his awkward style still working for him. He knows Lewis's style pretty much and will come even more prepared this time around. He's probably one of the smartest heavyweight's I've ever seen and he can rock Lewis over and over. Vitali's chin has been tested plenty of times and he can take many punches. Lewis wasn't looking too good in those early rounds and until Vitali drew blood, he wasn't looking good at all. It would be a very interesting rematch though I see Vitali getting that much wanted revenge that he's been asking for, for so long now. I'd say Vitali by KO in late rounds if it ever happened.
markosg19 12-28-2004, 11:12 AM Icf training goes well, he good walk straght in and get his belts back
bpapa420 12-28-2004, 11:42 AM Lewis has been retired for way too long. I really hope he stays retired and keeps what little respect he has earned
Enayze 12-28-2004, 02:14 PM This would be a great fight for Heavyweight boxing. And bring in some fresh air, after watching fighters like Byrd and Ruiz fight. Although Lewises chances of winning are very slim now. Perhaps if he took the rematch right after the first fight with Vitali than his chances would be higher. Now it's a different story, Vitali has improved with every fight since his Lewis war. He showed us that he still is reaching his prime. Recently against Williams Klitschko showed us that he now added uppercuts to his arsenal, plus his ability to throw punches from different angles, and knowing when to throw through the target and when to throw around it. I believe if the Vitali that fought Williams fought Lewis the first time, than this issue would be settled a long time ago, as I believe Vitali would knock Lewis out. Now if Lewis comes back, I believe Vitali will knock him out, but its heavyweight boxing so anything can happen.
baard 03-31-2005, 09:04 AM Lewis will fight Vitali, but will lose because of inactivity.
