December 23, 2004 - WBO lightweight champion Diego "Chico" Corrales and WBC lightweight champion Jose Luis Castillo will unify their titles on Showtime March 5. Negotitations for the bout were at a standstill for weeks, but at the end of the day, Corrales decided to take the money offered as Showtime was on the verge of searching for a new main event. Undefeated super middleweight champion Jeff "Left-Hook" Lacy will defend his IBF title in the co-feature. If Lacy isn't obligated to a mandatory defense, Showtime's Ken Hirshman liked the idea of Lacy-Scott Pemberton when he spoke with **********.com last night.

ill be glad to see this one. id really like to see chico recognized as "the" lightweight champ. i really think he can beat castillo and id like to see him get the WBC strap. im not a big castillo fan but him and chico should make a good fight. :D

I think Castillo will handle Corrales rather convincingly. They both want war and I think the stronger fighter with the better chin will win. Castillo throws combinations where as Corrales really just tries to hurt his opponents one punch at a time. It will be a great fight.

I hope Corrales wins because he's a legitimate one-punch KO threat....something the sport always needs.

Beating castillo is one major tough task for Chico, however.

The ref or chico's corner will stop this fight late after he is all ****ed up, Chico will then cry and moan about not being given a chance to continue just like he did against MAyweather, it will probably be eerily similiar to the moans and cries that Chico's ex-wife exhausted after their last fight...This is an alley fight and I would walk down an alley anyday with JL Castillo...he wins in brutal fashion very similiar to what JL did to Lazcano except I believe LAzcano's beard is a lot better than Chico's.

Corrales is a better fighter than Lazcano....& I don't care how good Castillo's chin is, if he gets tagged by Corrales the way he was Lazcano.....there will be problems.

I have never heard anyone ever refer to Corrales as a GREAT fighter.

He is, however, a GREAT PUNCHER......& he will be dangerous until the very last second.
That's his appeal.

I tend to agree a bit here...Castillo cannot take that many bombs(It would not surprise me if he did walk right through them though, I expect him to be able to walk through many big shot in the first half of the fight-hopefully this is where he hurt Diego bad enough the the bombs turn into...I don't know-wimpy bombs) but I think it boils down to chins here and JL's looks a whole lot better than Diego's...whose will crack first.

Plus I don't think Diego is a warrior like Castillo is. The first fight with Casamyor, Diego fought back well but even though he had hurt Joel I think he was headed for a ko loss in that fight...I just don't think he is on the warrior level with Castillo...I hope I am not wrong!

I know no one calls Diego great, but think he is ridiculously overhyped...months ago there were threads with polls that wanted to know who everyone liked chico or Castillo....almost no one picked Castillo. Since then many have changed there minds but people are in love with this guy...im not one of them. Although I will say this, I rooted my ass off for him against Freitas!

This will be an all out war. Castillo was hurt by Casamayor in their fight on a couple of occasions. He relies too much on his chin & he's going to get KO'ed fighting like that against Chico. The reason Castillo is so effective is that he for the most part in his fights, is the bigger man + the bigger puncher. He's going against someonr that's just as strong if not stronger than him. Chico has the power to get his respect & to back him off. We all know Chico can get up & come back from a knockdown, the question is can Castillo? If Castillo comes in head 1st against Chico, he's going to eat jabs, straight rights, & left hooks all night.

Finally...can anyone say "fight of the year??"...

This will be a very close fight and it should be a good action fight with a couple knockdowns between the two of them. I wonder if Corrales knows what he's dealing with because Castillo is one tough bastard.

I say unless this fight is stopped by doctors or a corner, it'll go the distance with Castillo taking a close decision.

I'll be rooting for Chico but,after the beating Castillo laid on Lazcano I'm leaning toward Castillo.It looked like like someone took a tire iron to Lazcano.

Jeff Lacy is good. I don't know Castillo but Diego Corrales is good and he's tough because he wanted to keep fighting against Casamayor even when he was bleeding out his mouth.
