I'm a lightweight, and today, I sparred some BIG tough heavyhanded southpaw light heavyweight...

Whoa, I felt that weight on me! Damn...I only sparred for like 15 seconds when the trainer realised his weight is to much for me..

that tells u something! work on ur footwork and movement so u are able to spar bigga guys.
My main sparring partner was a heavyweight and fought for various national titles, so i got permanent scars from those spars haha, i was also concussed 1/4 times i sparred him.
mind games play a big part when sparring bigga guys. :boxing: :D

i do this on a weekly basis, and 40lbs on me is 220lbs, dont think its such a big deal.

depends on the quality of oponent, if u sparring novice heavyweight, u prolly get a better work goin for a stroll in the park. But if sparring a experienced heavyweight who applies pressure, ya f$%^ed and got big task on ya hands.

Yeah. I have sparred someone 40 pounds heavier. More even, maybe about 60 pounds heavier. He was new to boxing, he kept rushing throwing some Vitor Belfort shi, I just did some side steps and then threw combos.

I spar bigger guys there are 3 of them they all weight around 185- 210 I weight about 157 pounds when i fight. But these guys all have less experiance than me so its not a big deal. I would be scared though fighting someone 40 pounds heavier and most experianced.

yes, definitely. everybody i spar usually weighs more than me. and i usually use bigger gloves to dampen my punches more. also love to spar bareknuckle using only body punches. we just have to make sure, with the bareknucle sparring, not to fully unload at 100%.

i normally sparr wit bigger fighters....i usually fight at 106 and i sparr 140 suttin pounders...you get used to their power soon enough...just sparr him a few times and you'll find out how to pick them apart

Ive sparred with a few Light HW/Cruiserweights, when I was fighting at lightweight/welterweight and you notice the difference in punching power so yes I can relate, but on the other hand it's sparring so you should never really go out and try and hurt one another you practice your technique and perfect your skills with that other person at 75 percent speed maybe 80. If your not able to box and take it easy or even take a few punches and work with the other man then you probably shouldnt be in the ring at all it's not always a fight.

Thats a bit stupid of the coach anyway, thats a big disadvantage for a lightweight.

To answer your question, i have sparred with a lot of people 40lb more than me but i'm a heavy so it doesnt make too much difference. fight giants is something heavys have to deal with.

I sparr with bigger guys all the time, Im relativley fast even for being a 140-150 fighter so not such a big deal. South paws and peoples alot taller is alot worse then the extra weight, also I did sparr a 220-240 fighter once wich actually had my speed and that wasn't really fun. He actually jabbed 190-200 fighter in the same sparring session wich caused the frontal lobe of the fighter's cranium to press against his brain. No brain dmg but couldn't fight for a year after.

I am a natural lightweight (fight at feather) and two of my best sparring partners are light heavies. Tho' they don't test me on speed so much (they are getting faster), I have become a much stronger fighter and gotten much better at my lateral movement!!!! I have won my last 3 fights in a row and came close to ending the fight early in two of them. One fight, I was 18 points up in round 2 (but that is because of the jab) and the other I dropped him once in round 3, but couldn't finish him off.

Anyway, my biggest problem is adjusting to the speed which takes about half the first round. Other than that, I love sparring bigger guys. You'll notice a difference in your power as well as a difference in the effect another lightweight's punch is.

I reccomend sparring like that. However, having someone in your weight is helpfull too.

All about speed and boxing fundamentals. You ain't going to beat a guy 40lbs on you but you can definitely outskill them.
Maintaining the proper distance and using footwork, pot shotting, using different angles, different body movement and some scoring combos.

If you do beat a guy 40 pounds bigger than you its's because they are inexperience like the post above, trying to work on some skills, are not used to sparring smaller guys, or trying not to hurt you.

Realistically and IMHO guys with 40 lbs on you can just tie you up and bull you into a corner or the ropes and pin you if they wanted to any moment and rough you up.

Some big guys spar with smaller guys to help work on some of their skills and stuff and are not going all out.

i spar this guy who is 6'5 260 all the time
i use my pseed but i tend to stand and trade with him now
because i want to get a workout when i spar
and i work on different things
i slip most of his punches but the ones that
do get through do some damage

i was sparring this other super heavy wed
he was about 250
i was beating his ass
hitting him with 3 to 5 hit combos at a time

I never sparred with that big guys in boxing, but I do it from time to time in wrestling and vale tudo. It works okay in sparring, but things would get different in a real fight.

I sparred a guy who is 190 and 5'11 in the street. I'm only 5'9 and 147. He coulden't land a punch on me, I kept ducking everything. I got him with enough solid body punches and he coulden't continue. We didn't have headgear nor a mouth piece, only gloves, thats what I mean by street. Yeah it was also outside, not in a ring :D

Skill is important but when the skills are equal most likely the guy with 40 lbs will work you.

You can still beat guys bigger than you. Boxingwise I worked guys bigger than me by 80 pounds and a foot taller. It's because they didn't know shit, very amateur, out of shape, reflexes too slow, or my punches were too fast.

hey man i had to spar mostly heavyweights. bcuz there was no one there a light welterweight or close to my weightclass. so ya they out weighed me by 50-60+pounds. me being 142 and lean/no body fat but pretty ripped, i had to constantly move an jab, but on ocassions i could throw a combination. but my favorite would be a uppercut bcuz when i threw a fast snapping jab and it connected, they would bend there neck downard as to if there eyes would be facing the ground an id throw a right uppercut. the next day they would tell me how bad there nose would hurt bcuz of that 1 uppercut.and of course they were taller than me so i had to jab upward toward there noise. so just becuz they outweigh doesnt mean a hole lot i think. but my trainer told me that i was the best there bcuz i trained right nvr getting distracted bcuz i knew i was there to train an not to conversate/play around. hope this helps in anyway
