During a ceremony held in Isla Verde the Puerto Rican Boxing Commission honored the top boxers from the island, including Miguel Cotto, who won the Frank Parrilla Award as the best boxer from Puerto Rico for 2004. Cotto won the WBO junior welterweight title after a convincing knockout victory over previously undefeated Kelson Pinto. Recently, Cotto made his first defense of the title by dismantling former champion Randall Bailey.

Another winner was Félix “Tito” Trinidad, who received the Comeback Fighter of the Year award after his exciting victory over Ricardo Mayorga. During the ceremony Felix Trinidad Sr. indicated that a deal had been reached with Don King for a March 19 matchup against Winky Wright. The event would be held in Madison Square Garden.

The business back-end that drives our beloved sport of boxing is truly one of the more inconsistent institutions among its peers in professional sports. A prime example of this are the on and off again last minute negotiations that we have grown accustomed to, and which at times make for some compelling drama. That being said the only sure thing in boxing is that no bout is 100% made until you see both combatants in the ring letting their fists go.

This brings us to the current drama of Wright vs. King vs. Trinidad, a situation that like the mega blockbuster Yankee deal for Randy Johnson could fall apart at any moment. Remarkably as of yesterday Don King says the deal is done, but as interestingly enough Tito’s would be rival “Winky” Wright says quite the opposite and furthermore reiterated that as far as he is concerned the only obstacle between Tito and himself is money.

To lend credence to Don King’s assertion of the situation, Don Felix himself confirmed the bout to the gathered press at today’s Puerto Rican Boxing commissions Awards ceremony, even going as far as confirming the date of March 19th along with the host arena, New York’s Madison Square Garden.

All of this However is mute until the undisputed junior Middleweight champion Ronald “Winky” Wright, who rightfully believes that he is worth more than the rumored 3 or 4 million that has been offered to him by the ****ed hair wonder, signs on the dotted line . This mega fight deal could be far from a done deal and can fall through at any minute that is unless a million or two more find their way to the negotiating table.

Tito will win this fight, especially if it is made at 160. He is too heavy handed for write.
