Discuss british boxing and fights linked to Brit fighter here

That's Graham Earl pulled out of his fight with Yuri Romanov through inujury and now Mark Hobson is out of the David Haye fight with shingles! If that's the case that can be nasty but it's so disappointing especially with this fight as it's been postponed before and I was hoping to see Romanov beat up another of our lightweights

For cable/sky viewers tonight Eurosport are showing Froch/Barney at 19.00 then from 20.00-22.00 it's Beyer/Sheika presumably with some undercard action.

we get jones tarver 2 instead of earl romanov.

That's a decent replacement I suppose! especially if they show the Campbell/Diamond scrap from the undercard that was the fight of the night, they probably will so that's a good Friday & Saturday nights boxing we've got lined up :boxing:

eamon magee to fight takaloo http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/default.stm
maggee only just come back from that leg incident , you think he be able to deal with takaloo?

There's so many question marks around this fight it's hard to pick a winner, Magee has the class and skill edge but how will his legs hold up in a long hard fight? Takaloo hasn't fought at welter for years so he could either be weight drained or strong as an ox. Just going on styles i'd say Magee on points, Takaloo's an attacking fighter so that should suit Magee's laid back countering style, Eamonn has always shown a great chin but Takaloo is much the bigger man naturally so this should be good.

hobson pulling out the fight is not good , i was looking forward to haye finally shutting up hobson , Hobson = domestic level, haye= potential world class

thers a bit of **** being thrown around there as well.

they dont like each other.

I always thought Haye would walk through Hobson anyway, not saying Hobson's crap or anything cos he's not but when he gets hit on the chin I don't like the look of him and if Haye can do one thing it's hit hard or is that two things

I heard that Lacy is fighting Pemberton. I thought he was supposed to fight Joe Calzaghe?

I see two scenerios: Joe to win by UD or Lacy wins by KO.

But more emphasis on Joe winning.

So...who is Calzaghe going fight next if not Lacy?

barryboy
10-04-2005, 04:54 PM
If Calzaghe tries to fight someone before he squares off with Lacy i'll go down to Wales and shoot him myself  He's supposed to be fighting Lacy once his hand is healed so probably closer to spring/summertime next year is most likely, they better not say they need another warm up cos there's always a chance the same thing could happen again so for me he'll need to go straight into the Lacy fight if he wants to keep what credibility he's got left.

Well, this sucks. Tell him to increase his calcium intake. This guy is more fragile than Vitali.

Am I the only one who doesn't rate David Haye?

I just don't see what everyone else is seeing in him, i.e. "World champion prospect".

He's had what? 14 fights now, he's already lost to a 41yr old that I'm sorry to say - is a shot fighter. I also saw him in a terrible state when he got flatterened by an African journeyman, Haye was nearly stopped!

I dunno, I just don't understand all the hype around him. He holds his hands WAY TOO LOW - (and he has been caught), I'm not convinced he has a proper chin yet... In fact I'm very weary about a lot of things regarding him. Pair this all up with the fact that he's not even a British Champ yet (Let alone European or commonwealth) and I think it's a little bit optimistic to be hailing him a World Champion prospect!

I'm not trying to make David Haye sound ****... I'm just saying that I'm not getting the hype surrounding him. I don't think he's anything special.

Raed the story on Sky Text this morning, haye is giving Hobson a right slagging! No love lost there then!

Nah I don't rate Haye as highly as that either but his speed & power are more than a lot of cruiserweights can handle, it's more a case of me being more impressed with Haye so far than Hobson, Hobson looks like a good technical boxer with decent power but seems to get quite ruffled when put under pressure, I saw the Haye/Mock knockdown & he was all over the shop but I don't think it's cos he's got a bad chin as it was a temple shot and we've all seen what a good shot there can do, stamina seemed to be the problem with Thompson he was just ****ed by the 2nd round! To me he seems like the type of ****y guy who when he gets some success it will go to his head big time and he'll come unstuck(Though maybe that's already happened!)

Yeah, I think Haye was more worried about how his bandanna looked than what he was about to go into, before the Thompson fight.

He was flexing his muscles etc, yet like you said was knackered by the end of round two!

I'm just not sure if Haye is in this sport for the right reasons?

I think he'd prefer the lifestyle of a rapper rather than a boxer, he wants the hardman status he'll get from being a boxer but like you i'm not sure if he wants to put the work in & if the type of ladies he's getting were throwing themselves at me i'd be training like a demon so there would be no chance of any slip ups! Lucky bastard

That's blatantly takin the piss Joe! If he takes another fight I don't even want to know man, every time something like this comes up I always have the same thought 'Oh well doesn't surpise me' It's the same **** excuses recycled
Hide v Haye. What a great scrap that would be, explosive is not the word!

Just as well then eh? Going all the way to Wales for that, it's one of those 'you should be paying me to go' situations, Ever since the proposed Johnson fight it's been one excuse after another with the guy, I had to laugh when I read this months Boxing Monthly, there's a little quote from Calzaghe saying 'I don't want to be just WBO champion that's too easy, I want to be a real champion like...' Trust me he's got a hundred of em :D

i think joe is too thick to remember what he has said.

i met him at a press conf once, thick as pig ****.

10-05-2005, 12:46 PM
Well J ! and Barryboy... I'm one of the boy's that's still holding onto the chance that Joe can be something special.

I admit, he should have been doing something special back in 1999... But I still think he can bring a good victory to the game.

Despite his poor opposition, he's still leagues above everyone he fought... And I think he'll beat Lacy should they meet :fingersx: early 2006'.

I've seen him fight twice (well, the second fight was highlight reels of him and Eubanks) and I think he can outland Lacy to a 12 round UD. But Lacy, as strong as he is, has a VERY good puncher's chance of ending the fight with a win via KO.

10-05-2005, 02:45 PM
He looked pretty good on the boxing front before his hand went against Ashira but the guy was so small & outgunned it was no contest even with one hand, he's a good fighter no question but this is more than 10 years into his pro career and we still don't know how good he is because he's never beaten someone really on top of their game, a few dangerous guys in Eubank, Brewer & Mitchell but they were all past their best and Sheika he'd beat every day of the week, he's been sitting on that WBO title for 8 years now and hasn't done much except make plenty o cash & that's what's annoying about him he could have done a lot more up till this point, no one would have beaten him easily so who's fault it is that Joe hasn't had the defining fight I don't know, he says he's been avoided but the other party always say otherwise so it's who you believe, surely no ones that avoided though! even the most dangerous fighters get a big fight but this guy just can't seem to manage it so he'd better fight Lacy next, no warm ups please  I'll go for Lacy by ko in the first half of the fight, if Mitchell & Salem can put him down I think Lacy can do the same only a little better ;)

if the lacy v calzaghe fight happens 2006 , anyone rekon it could happen at light heavyweight - lacys a big supermiddleweight and joe has been at this weight for years now so he might be seriously strugglin?

Even though they'd both prefer to fight at light-heavyweight... the fight will happen at super-middleweight because it's a unification bout.

They won't stitch you up in your 1st amatuer bout... They will put you in the ring with someone who has exactly the same experience and exactly the same weight.

As a new amatuer they're trying to build your confidence and get you off on the right foot... They won't put you in with someone that'll school you, but it's important to go in there thinking that you have to win, becauase a good amatuer record will do wonders if you ever think about trying to sign with a promotional company Pro.

no comments bout witter this weekend?

he was piss poor.

barryboy
10-24-2005, 10:19 AM
I thought he'd want to put on a show since his last couple had gone the distance but he just couldn't do anything with Lynes who has been beaten 3 times imo a couple of times much more impressively than Witter could manage so it does look like he's slipped a bit, the fight on Friday reminded me of Hamed's fights with both Barrera & Calvo, Lynes boxed on the back foot and Witter could do nothing with him(Barrera) when he did land his shots they were partly blocked or ineffective but usually he was missing wildly(Calvo)
For me it's the Ingle style of fighting, once fighters reach a certain point & they're reflexes start to wane they just can't perform using that anymore, it'll be interesting(Or maybe not!)to see how Johnny Nelson performs next month coz he's nearing the end & has been inactive so he could be next(After Esham Pickering!?)

J !
10-24-2005, 10:33 AM
i think hunter will beat pickering.

nice pick up on the whole ingle thing and very astute and correct

hey you guys, I know that it's downright impossible to get boxing mag's like The Ring (and K.O., etc.) over there...for what it's worth, Ring has their website back up..if youre interested, go to www.thering-online.com :)
