Trust me on this! for all you guys who lift to heavy on the shoulder press such as military and such be careful because you can really injury your shoulder and not even know it! and the shoulder is the main part of your arm movement if you injury it, it takes a long long time to heal trust me my cousin used to body build and he couldnt lift weights for 18 months because he ****ed his shoulder up.

As for squats I really do not reccommend this excersize because it is extremely bad on your knees! if you do it to often and too much weight pretty soon thee cartilidge in your knee will rub off.

I hurt my knee doing it! I still do the squats but I use very light weights and feel a better gain on my legs I only put 90 pounds on it.

Dont act like superman like you will never get hurt cause trust me if you try to act macho you only fool yourself!

I would rather have a more functionaly body then a huge body that only lasts me 10 years before i start getting aches and pains on my joints from all the heavy weights.

With good technique, squats are good for your knees. In fact, squatting will keep your knees healthy, as long as you don't bounce into the bottom position - this sort of ballistic shock can be bad. Common problems include doing squats before you're schooled in proper technique or trying to do heavy squats before you build a solid foundation in all the smaller synergistic and stabiliser muscles.

ya but most people have no clue how to do a proper squat even if someone is instructing them! I say if you do squats use lighterweights and leave the rest for power lifters not boxers.

I used proper form and my knee popped I had 200 on my back and it was painful I didnt bounce either.

shoulders are the ones I am careful off I say the best is the military press and arnold press for shoulders I try not to lift to heavy I do 1 set of heavy and then lower the weights.

Some guys are dumb when they go to the gym they lift superheavy and then dont realize they ****ed up their shoulder slowly over time then it pops or seperates as they say. Usually the skinny guys do this macho shit because they feel they wanna show off to the girls.

Heavy shoulder press is definitely over-rated. For boxers, it is not specific to their actions in the ring and it puts the shoulder in a position which puts the rotator cuff muscles in an extreme stretch. Which in combo with boxing training, puts a big load on the rotator cuff muscles.

ya its really bad for you not just for boxers but in general! I like the clean and press and the clean jerk.

Power exercises (clean and jerk, hang clean etc.) are exercises that are great for most sports. But you gotta have a good strength base first. So you gotta do other shoulder exercises first ie. shrugs, upright rows, rear lateral raises.

yup, I had to slowly do dumbel presses with 15 pounds when i first started, then once I was able to do 35 pound dumbell raises with each arm I would do shrugs and then military press.

Now I just do clean and jerks and push press! I like the push press the best.

I suggest people work on their cardio and blood pressure and stamina before they start lifing intense! light work outs at first for beginners and make sure you run alot for stamina on the treadmill.

Omg.. I knew it! I think I have a shoulder injury because I was doing squats and my shoulder popped! And everytime I raise my hand or strecth it, it feels like all my bones in my shoulder are popping real hard! I dont know what I did, I hope that its not a serious one.

you really did **** up your shoulder man! you better see a doctore that is the sign of a messed up rotator. when it hurts when you rotate your arm or raise it! dude did you tell your folks? and how much did you lift?

this is why people who are ignorant to the world of bodybuilding and weight training should start lifting!

I suggest you research about bodybuilding on bodybuilding.com or subscribe to muscle and fitness magazine.

Knee injury form squats result form imbalances between quadraceps and biceps femoris(hamstrings). Shoulder injury from military press are caused generally underdevelped three heads of the deltoid muscles and weak assistance muscles like the pectoralis and triceps. I haved maxed out at 575 on squat and 310 on military press at one point and have only injured my knee or shoulder when I was sedentary level activity. And for those who say what is the point of lifting like that......At 5'10" I could dunk on a 10' basket ball goal and run a 4.36 40 yard dash at 220 lbs, and press 240 lbs guys over my head and run with them pressed over head. Not bad for a "Muscle Bound" short guy huh?

WTF? your a genetic freak either that or your on roids! jk hahah.

But seriously 310 militatry press one time? damn sitting or standing? I have more problem doing my military press sitting.

I dont do high reps with my military press I can barely lift 75 pounds 3 sets for 4 reps and im gassed. I have small bones. I weigh 150.

so do you juice? or take supplements?

Also Are you joking cause that last part made me laugh are you a strong man or something? cause all that lifting will make you have aching joints when your 40 trust me 90 percetn of heavy lifters have aching joints. So your lifting is worthless unless you are getting paid a multi million dollar contract to play football I dont see why you would need to lift that heavy?

So your lifting is worthless unless you are getting paid a multi million dollar contract to play football I dont see why you would need to lift that heavy? At one point I did those things, I've been out of practice so long I couldn't do any of that anymore. But as for joint pain, just like any athlete who gets up there in age there will be a price to pay for your glory, bodybuilders, powerlifter, boxers, football, and basketball players, even long distance runners all will pay the price for their glory years later in life, though in different ways. Bodybuilding and powerlifting are the absolute most extreme versions of fitness. One focuses on inhuman levels of muscularity the other focuses on inhuman levels of strength. They train vastly different yet may experience the same kinds of problems later on in life. My training in all honesty was not that damn intense, I like most football players was just strong. I focused on developing my skill, never sacrificing it for anything, and never sacrificing speed for anything. Plenty of power athletes can do the same things I did, like it was nothing. Key words never sacrificing performance, everything I did made my performance excel, made me faster, stronger and more agile, just like all the players I played with. I don't have a point to prove just telling my experience.
