The Fugees have announced details of a new single ahead of their forthcoming second studio album, Sound Generator can report.
"Take It Easy" is the first new material to emerge from recent sessions in a New York studio, and will give fans an early taste of the direction of 2006's as-yet-untitled new album. The track is the trio's first new release since 1996's global bestseller, and the biggest selling hip-hop album of all time, "The Score".
Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean and Prakazrel Michel have all enjoyed successful solo careers since breaking out on their 1996 hit "Ready Or Not", the lead cut on their Columbia Records "The Score".
"I ain't rhymed in minute, but y'all ain't catch up, and that ain't blood on your shirt, that's ketchup!," raps Wyclef on "Take It Easy."
"Back with the Fugees, fo' fighting for a few billions," adds Pras on the single.
In the year's following "The Score", Lauryn Hill notched five Grammy Awards with 1998's "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill," while Wyclef has notched multiple platitudes with two studio albums and a host of production credits. Pras had a number one hit with 1998's "Ghetto Superstar (That Is What You Are), but has mainly focused his attention on film projects.
The first sign of life for the Fugees was a surprise appearance at a Brooklyn block party thrown by comedian Dave Chappelle in September 2004. This year, the band have undertaken a number of live music performances, including an appearance at Hollywood's Kodak Theatre as the unannounced opening act for the 2005 BET Awards ceremony.
