I still don't think that if there is a unified champ it will help the division as much as they say it would.

the way I see it.. if there is a unified champ... then all the up and coming HW would be all focusing on getting their chance at a crack at THAT Champ, THOSE Titles.. then maybe more prospects will surface and more talent will be molded..

Name one division outside of middleweight (I give you that, even with Masoe carrying around the WBA belt) that is unified.

Why do the heavies need unified when none of the others are?

no division NEEDS to be unified..

i don't recall any other division being widely known to be "hurting"

if HW is not unified and other divisions are also not unified, but something is working for them NOT to be knows as "hurting", then maybe something different needs to be done to shock HW back to life...

boxing is often viewed chronologically in eras of reigning HW champs... the sooner we can get one of those ourselves, the sooner we'll be concluding that era and starting something that COULD be exciting and meaningful...

yeah :) it seems like it always promised some chance of excitement... def. more world reknown up to this point.

I do know that unless there's some real good solid competition, VK will never be given true credit for being a good champ... but that sorta goes without saying... :) he needs to prove more anyways for his sake..

Have to admit that no matter what happens(unification or not.) or whoever becomes the unified champ, heavyweight boxing is simply boring. The best boxing fights are now happening in the featherweight, superfeatherweight, light welter and middleweight. Hate to admit it but HW(the defining division of a boxing era) right now is a garbage.

The early 1995 P4P list of both THE RING and its sister publication, KO, had no heavyweight in the top 9; Michael Moorer came in tenth in what appears to be an afterthought. That came after Oliver McCall (remember him, the "Atomic Bull"?) took the title in an upset vs. Lennox.

The top ten heavyweights then were (according to The Ring and KO):
1. Moorer 2. McCall 3. Bowe 4. Lewis 5. Herbie Hide 6. Larry Holmes 7. Frank Bruno 8. Lionel Butler 9. Larry Donald and 10, Jorge Luis Gonzalez

The P4P list went:
1. James Toney- SMiddle
2. Pernell Whitaker- Welter
3. Orlando Canizalez- Bantam
4. Chiquita Gonzalez- Jr. Fly
5. Michael Carbajal- Jr. Fly

I don't think enough people would be convinced to boycott King. A large snctioning body or RIng magazine needs to step up and make it pulic.

If king makes another garbage PPV, HBO and Showtime are the ones that need to step up and point out how useless it is. Roycott never really worked either. Though I may agree with you, it is wishfull thinking. Unfortunately, I am a sucker for any fight, PPV or not.
