if it's to the head it should be facing you at least while it's moving through the target. it does not have to be parallel with the ground, obviously. it wont face you the entire time. when it does, you will be open on your left side.
if you try throwing it to the body with your thumb facing you it's going to have a weird angle
some people will even tell you to point it toward your chest when it's to the head, opening the palm a bit to the opponent. this will ensure that you turn your knuckles over and get your elbow up to get leverage.

you want to use your knuckles and punch with leverage (not slap w/ the side of the glove)
that's what the thumb pointing instructions are usually about
it's about your build and the length of your arms

hmmmm I think it all depends on range ... up close the thumbs should be facing and far away it should be facing up

That's what I do ^.

Make sure your forearm is in a straight line when you land it and your elbow creates a nice 90^o angle.

Twist your hips for more power.

the gym i use to go to use to do the left hook to the head with the thumb upwards and palm faceing towards you, now iv moved gyms the do thumb towards you and palm facing down, so just wondered what the correct way was

Usually just personal preferance with Old School trainiers opting for the thumb facing you method as they say it decreases the chance on injury.

They both have their uses at the apropriate time, the more sparring you do, you'll realize how you'll have to vary your technique at different occasions, don't take a technique/stance as final say, theyare meant to give you a balanced foundation as well as education in the art of boxing, but as you progress you'll realize what works for you and what doesn't. keep at it, peace

I throw my left hook with my thumb facing downwards. I turn my wrist in as I throw my left hook, just works for me better. It really depends what you're comfortable with tbh. I find I generate more power throwing my left hook this way...

If you read the 1st thread he did on me, you'll see that he saif he wants to fight me, so I responded noproblem and even wrote down the closest fight dates in NYC and that i can be found at 132, open class, I.ve got 17 fights and 2 losses then it turns out he says he's 240 pounds islocated in the midwest and that he wants to fight me on the street, does that make sense? Lol, then he goes on to make a second thread saying I slept with his girl? Don't know what kind of sense or why someone would do something/lie about things like that, and since when have I ever come across as an internet gangster bernardotelo? Beats me, figure you just ignore a person like that.

you turn it over following through with the elbow 180'. You wanna throw a club not turning it over by all means we're free to do as we wish. I'd rather throw bombs, turn it over..........Rockin':boxing:

I had a scrap like that on here. Some punk kid tells me that he can knock me out, talking all kinds of sh*t that he's a fighter. Ater reading about the barrage of sexual assaults I was going to have done to me, I ask if we can do this in a pro ring and I assure him that we could. He agreed to the bout and I called him out on it. I ended up catching alot of crap over it because he supposedly turned out to be only 18 years old. I still hold if you can talk it you better be able to walk it when it goes down. He was old enough to fight professional, he would have needed his parents approval for said match. But still don't talk it. In my defense I said that easy money is hard to come by like that. Just do your thing and keep us posted..........Rockin':boxing:

That's basically it. Someone called me out and I respond with dates and locations of the 2 next fights including my weight and stating open class.....which he isnt in and so he's probably just trollin...

When I throw hooks I don't turn my fist for either of them. If i turn the the punch i can't throw it as hard as normal or fast enough, also it hurts my arm.

the perfect hook is thrown palm facing down, elbow 90 degrees and at shoulder height (Important!). if you wanna throw a hook lower, you need to bring your body down by bending through your knees for making it an effective hook. if you do it right and you throw it hard, you feel the impact going through your whole body. so the more you swing it in from your hips, lift your heel off the ground, turn your core/abs/back into it, the more power you generate.

so: palm facing down, elbow at shoulder height and 90 degree angle!

the only way i use a hook with the palm facing towards me, if it's a longer or shorter hook, so the opponent is not in range for a 90 degrees hook. but that is not the most effective/powerful hook, that's the one i described in the beginning of this post.
