I know it wouldnt of suited tysons style but did prime mike tyson have the feet to be fleet footed, to be able to get up on his toes and move around the ring like ali ? .

marvdave

tyson did have quick feet, but his body stature/fighting style wouldn't be suited for Dancing type boxing. He was something to behold back in the day with that "bob and weave". The head movement, power and hand speed were incredible. Too bad the mental stability and character were not so incredible.

If by fleet footed one means, he was quick on his feet, I think he was. Nobody got away from a prime Mike. He caught up with everybody.

If a prime Mike were slow, he would not have been able chase many dancing masters to plant his feet, get good leverage, and slam home all those KO punches. :)

Um,

Who cares???

Are you guys looking back and wishing Tyson pranced around like a fairy?

Tyson went for the knockout every second of every round of his fights. He didn't try to be cute and win rounds, he tried to break down his opponents and knock them out.

Ali and Holyfeild won a lot of their fights through attrition because of their footwork, and defense. Tyson won hbecause he hit so hard that guys didn't want to get up.

catskills23
12-19-2004, 04:53 PM
If you look at the fact that tyson did have fast feet and was able to jump from side to side real quickly its very possible that tyson could of posessed the feet to move around the ring like ali .

I'm sorry catskill23 but didn't MarvDave answer the question. We do you insist on having Tyson fight a style that didn't suit his body type and strategy?

catskills23

I am not insisting he should of used a stick and move straregy, I just want to know did tyson have the ability to get up on his toes and danced like ali, whether he had that kind of foot movememt .

Nobody could dance and move more effectively than Muhammad Ali. Catskills, when you get 100 posts to your name check out the Ali-Quarry boxing download and you will see "the greatest" dance like he was at the senior prom. ;)

This thread is whack, does Roy Jones Jr. have exceptional athletic ability, duh... C'mon man Tyson had all the physical tools one could possibly ask for. Now if Tyson would've developed a jab then I think he could've been a pretty damn good boxer/puncher as well. But Tyson and that bob and weave style was like Peanut butter and jelly, it was simply a thing of beauty w/ a whole lot of ferocity!

rsl
12-19-2004, 07:46 PM
I've always wondered what Tyson would've been like if he ended up being a football player, would've probably been in the mold of a Jamal Lewis, definitely an east - west type of runner.

12-19-2004, 08:18 PM
I have seen Tyson's entire career and I can't imagine him moving around the ring like Ali. :D

Lefthookhappy19
12-19-2004, 09:43 PM
It would be pretty stupid for a 5'10 heavy to start dancing round the ring and try to out jab far taller boxers. He fought a style which suited his physical makeup. Just as Lennox fights one that suits his.

catskills23
12-20-2004, 10:54 AM
I know it wouldnt make sense for tyson to get up on his toes and dance and he wouldnt be able to move like ali because nobody could . But did tyson have the feet to move like tyrell biggs or larry holmes ? . What enables a fighter to be able to move like that anyway , how come some fighters can do it and others can not ? .

The imposter

What would be the point. Tyson was so successful using his own trademark style. How could he be the baddest man on the planet if he was a dancer - "I will distract the gentleman by blinding him momentarily with the speed and grace of my footwork, whilst i doth quickly nip out and dine on his children"

Lefthookhappy19

Fast feet are like fast hands. Some guys have them and some don't. Some guys plod foward while others are on their toe's. Some guys move foward like that deliberatly, digging their toe's into the canvas for punching power.

Well if you watch the second henry tillmam - tyson amateur fight you wil see tyson in the corner up on his toes doing a bit of dancing , of course the camera is far away and there is the tale of the tape writing covering the screen so its hard to make out how good he is at it .

Again you're a coward ass *****. I personally think Tyson wouldn't be able to dance for very long, not on his toes, anyway, because of his unusually small calves, as well as his thighs being so heavy. I have seen him bounce around a little in some of his fights, and he looked alright, but he wasn't dancing, per se, and it was never for very long.

But seriously, if someone would have just given him an honest answer and their reasons for the answer, he probably would have left it alone, but people kept going around the question, and that one question got blown up into something it never should have been. If you don't have an answer, why bother posting? It's because you just feel the need to talk **** to someone who isn't even in front of you, that's just silly. Who are you anyway, the spam police? What, does it cost you money when the rest of us post?

Nothing, but this is supposed to be a place where we can discuss or debate boxing topics, and if you're breaking his balls, you'll be breaking mine next, because you're a **** talker, and that annoys me. Whether or not the question was legitimate, and whether or not his motives for posting it were genuine, the question was legit. Where I was born has nothing to do with whether or not I'm tougher than you, and yes, I did address you first, but you have been posting like some know it all baddass for some time now, so the way I look at it, if I hadn't addressed you, someone else would have, I just didn't want to wait.

You're typical....because I DO know a ton about boxing....you think I'm a know-it-all.

The fact that you're defending that dork shows me that you can relate to him...& that you really know little about boxing & are here just to have some kind of interaction with human beings.
When you realize you're posting about boxing in a place where really knowledgeable people discuss it....you feel insecure.

He asks "Does Tyson have the legs/feet to dance?", and you say "Admit it, the only movement you're interested in is his nuts on your chin." That's how you showcase your vast knowledge of the sport? Does your knowledge somehow hinder you from having normal discussions without stooping to accusations of homosexuality? You probably do know alot about the sport, so do I, but you, from what I've seen, don't come here to discuss boxing, per se, you come here to look for trouble to start with other posters, to talk down to posters that are newer that you are, but all of a sudden, you're a ****ing counselor too, so I'm insecure about my lack of knowledge of boxing, and that insecurity causes me to lash out at your posts, right? Onlly when I think someone is being ridiculous (or biased) do I

Haw Haw Haw, mechanical bull, how original. You know, you haven't posted one goddam thing that even loosely resembled a rational thought about boxing since this thread started, and I just keep waiting, but it just doesn't ever come around. You have discussed boxing in past threads, but even when you do, your posts are almost arrogant and condescending, I guess because you think way too much of yourself, and consider the opinions of others unimportant. I guess what I'm saying is if calling other posters dildos and **** are the closest thing to a civilized boxing discussion you have to offer, then you can go **** yourself, because I've pretty much shot my load, and I'm tired of ****ing you.

You can go into the topics being heavily discussed today, like

I DISCUSS all these things, in a civil mannre....quite thoroughly.

But....you aren't enough of a real boxing fan to venture in, & join in, those threads.

So....just stick to popping your pea-head in to defend your fellow dorks.

He wasn't the fastest on his feet, but he could move some, Especially before he got hung up on building muscle mass. That's one thing I've never understood, especially later in their careers, Holy and Tyson's styles resembled alot more than in the beginning, the only difference being that Holy would move around sometimes when he was hit, and although obviously having the ability to move around, Tyson always chose to stand in front of his man and try to hit him back, harder. Warrior mentality I guess.

You answered your own question....it's your toes that enable one to dance.
The rest of the feet attatched to those toes, along with the legs attatched, also help.

There.....your question is answered.

Tyson actually had a very good jab in his heydays!
People seem to overlook his boxing abilities in his prime.
Of course you have to know how to jab in order to get inside to unleash combinations on a bigger man.

I've been out for about a couple of months-- taking time out to merely take a peek or two during that time-- and what do I see? This thread is still alive and well!

I started naming some of my favorite boxers and started explaining my reasoning for them being my favorite and I mentioned Ali..I then said I always liked seeing fast fighters use both their quick feet and their quick hands to make opponents look foolish...I ended up asking him did he ever box with that style (on his toes, sticking and moving, etc.) he said yeah, back in the amateurs he did that in a couple of his fights, then I asked him were you as fast as Ali when you did it? He said, Nah, I was more kind of like Larry Holmes..

Kid Achilles
02-24-2005, 02:01 PM
That round I mentioned before was from the amateurs. I have it here on my computer; I just watched it. I'd say he looked a lot quicker and more athletic than Holmes but at his size he'd never succeed trying that crap against top opposition.

catskills23
02-24-2005, 02:47 PM
What amateur fight was it kid achilles and jack the ruppah did tyson say he was as fast on his feet as larry holmes ,or faster or slower ? .

jack_the_rippuh doesn't feed people bull****. jack_the_rippuh gives it to you how it is. jack_the_rippuh is getting very annoyed with how you're trying to make a liar out of jack_the_rippuh. jack_the_rippuh has told you once and jack_the_rippuh will tell you again, prime Mike Tyson definately had feet to be fleetfooted, jack_the_rippuh knows this, because jack_the_rippuh met up with Mike Tyson and Mike Tyson told jack_the_rippuh that he was similar to Larry Holmes on his toes. Regardless of what Kid Achilles might have told you, jack_the_rippuh isn't lying, and jack_the_rippuh is getting tired of all of this, if you choose to believe jack_the_rippuh...great, if not that's you're problem..

Why do you doubt that tyson could get up on his toes and dance around the ring like ali, tyrell biggs and larry holmes could do it why not tyson ?

I would think so...
When you move forward you don't put your upper-body outward but when moving backwards, most of the time you lean back...

I don't think Tyson would've ever tried to do much dancing. When you stop keeping your feet planted, you lose alot of power, and I don't think he'd have been willing to make that trade. That was a large part of the reason he had such vicious power in both hands.
