View Full Version : Can anybody take the IBF title from Byrd?
Truth 12-18-2004, 07:54 AM Is it just me or does Chris Byrd always find a way to keep that title? He was down against Mccline and still won, he was beat up Quendo and still got the decision. Who can beat this guy? Golata did beat him in most people eyes but Byrd still won.

A lot of the Heavyweights are poorly conditioned, Byrd is probably the most conditioned heavyweight today and if Byrd can go past 4-6 rounds with a fighter he usually has the fight in the bag, Not to mention his Chin is damn durable as well. Byrds tactics usually are win 1 or 2 rounds in the first half and then the other fighter will tire himself out and Byrd picks up the pace and wins the 2nd half....As long as Byrd isnt getting ko'd he will still win....
Oquendo wrestled his ass, Byrd was the only one in that fight who boxed and the judges took notice.
Ibeabuchi can beat this guy....Well not anymore atleast.
Byrd in my book is a modern Ali with his skill like it or not.

Yes of course if he fights Vitali again it's not gonna end up in the judges hands . . . it's going to be a rude awakening for Byrd and Don King.
Truth 12-18-2004, 08:07 AM Byrd might be able to beat Klitchsko in a rematch with that slick boxing style he has.

Byrd has slowed down a lot and his defense isnt all that great, It would be a great matchup for both fighters to see where they stand though and im sure both fighters want this matchup more than anything and they would come in at 110% for it no doubt about....
Considering the fight was took on a weeks notice and Byrd wasnt even in training could have told us a lot or a little.
I dont think the outcome will be much different though, Byrd likes to box on the outside and when inside he gets hit to much and the only way to beat Vitali is to get inside.....
Very competitive but I pick Vitali by close decision.
freirui 12-18-2004, 08:52 AM Vitali will ko Byrd easily!
ejk22 12-18-2004, 09:47 AM I really thought Mccline had him in their fight. But Mccline became weary and Byrd started teeing off on him. After the 6th round Mccline did nothing.
jack_the_rippuh 12-18-2004, 12:19 PM I think if James Toney were to get a title shot from Chris Byrd he would be able to take the IBF belt from him.
Yo, Imagine if Byrd was still at Middleweight right now, do you think he would be the undisputed champ or would Bernard Hopkins still beat him?

at middle james Toney beats em both, he'd be undisputed champ
Kimmy 12-18-2004, 12:55 PM That statement is too far fetched, we will never know the answer as to what would happen between Hopkins and Toney at middleweight. Byrd`s frame is too big to have stayed at middleweight, he would have been unable to compete effectively at 160 long enough to win a title, 175...maybe!
Hurlex 12-18-2004, 01:28 PM vitali kils byrd in a rematch i think atleast...
toney/hopkins...damn thats a hard one...i dont see anyone schooling the other but i think hopkins still wins...but i mean the "today" hopkins...his skills are the best in the game...close UD/SD i say for hop (or he may even break toney down)...remember that the hopkins roy jones beat was not the smae hopkins as "today"...he gotten better with time
BDBowe 12-18-2004, 05:01 PM anyone can beat byrd. mccline should have, oquendo did and golota did. whoever byrd faces next should beat him. hopefully they will feed byrd to tyson or klit or toney or even moorer, then we'll really see what he's made of
BDBowe 12-18-2004, 05:02 PM while byrd is good, he still should not be champ

As long as King is behind him its gonna be damn hard for anyone to take it from him.
I dont really see anyone out there that he cant beat outside of Vitali
