Watching the Barrera/McKinney fight got me to thinking that my favourite kind of fight is where some rude loudmouth is made to eat his words. What are the best examples of this through the years? I'd like to see more.

Off the top of my head:

Ali/Frazier I
Judah/Tszyu
Pacquiao/Hatton (well technically Mayweather Sr. did all the mouthing but got silenced afterwards)
Every Mayorga fight where he gets KOd (Trinidad, Hoya, Mosley, Cotto)

I remember 'Pee Wee" Parker talking alot of mess and insulting Tracy Harris Patterson and saying "without the Patterson you've only got Tracy Harris"-- and then Patterson whupped his a*s. Talking is ok to sell a fight but when you get personal like that idiot or like Mayorga did towards Tito by insulting his father then it's not OK and deserving of an ol' fashioned project beat down!:chairshot:killyou::spank:

Ali-Frazier 1.

Nothing better than that.

Ali talking to Fraizer like he's nothing, overwhelming arrogance. For Fraizer to put it on him (Ali sure didn't go down without a fight though) was just great.

That KD, sheer beauty.

Ali aying something onlong the lines of; "There is no chance he beats me" "If Joe Fraizer beats me I will bow to him and call him the greatest"

Quite frustrating he actually didn't do that, to any extent. Infact, he did quite the opposite.

Especially all the 'Uncle Tom' sh*t. I mean, grow up.

But yeah that's the best one, for me.

How'd he shut him up? He should have lost. That fight was close as *****. If anything it made him talk more.

Khan getting trashed by Prescott. Or Kessler vs Froch. Froch has been a lot more respectable since that fight.

that feels like the ultimate 'silencing' to me as well, good call.

I always found DLH Mayorga to be a good one too. or Mayorga vs anyone he lost to, but overall DLH probably kicked his ass the worst.

For me, Duran-Leonard 2. Making Duran actually quit is the ultimate embarrassment. Winding up with a right hand bolo and then catching Duran with a stiff left had to be humiliating for Duran. Leonard clowned him in that fight. I like watching it especially because of the classless way Duran acted after the first fight.

Barrera-Hamed

If I recall correctly that was the first instance where Hamed did not trash talk before the fight. It was mentioned often leading up to the fight and they made mention that it was a sign of "How serious Hamed is taking Barrera."

I remember everything leading up to that fight like it was yesterday.

Can't believe I forgot about that. I remember that like it was yesterday. I couldn't stand Vargas! That was a satisfying fight for me to enjoy.

That really is a classic example you can't really top. The Cotto-Margarito rematch will probably have good potential to be brought up here, because you know during the hype Cotto's side will bring up plaster a lot.

tyson may or may not have been blowing wind in the build up to the fight with lewis.
he was certainly, on some level, acting in character to promote the event, and cast himself as a villain.

but he bit lewis on the leg
threatened to eat his children
nobody told lennox at the time that this was all part of promoting the fight

lennox shut him up something serious.
he gave him an extended beating

edison miranda was talking a boatload of **** to jermain taylor before his fight with kelly pavlik

pavlik, of course, derailed his opportunity to back his words up
and silenced him

All the ones mentioned so far are good. A more recent example on a lower level would be the Molina-Lundy fight from last year on ESPN. That was a very satisfying outcome.

How about that dude back in the day who was taunting his gay opponent something fierce before the bout & wound up paying the most ultimate of paybacks with his life in the ring.. I forget the names involved but they had a documentary on it. You can't top death..he beat him so bad.. he died in the ring. Sometimes taunting can go too fAR & when you strip a man of his dignity.... there's nothing left to hold onto.

Oh & let's NOT forget the Lewis revenge KTFO of Hasim Rahman who also questioned Lewis' sexuality. Everyone knows i'm not a Lewis fan but that retribution was sweet.. he did to Hasim what Hasim did to him.. payback also LOUIS & SCHMELLING is another example of alltime great sweet retribution.

Lacy talked tough before fighting Calzaghe
he was claiming Calzaghe avoided the fight
he got destroyed in one of the worst clinics ever taken by a fighter

He was talking ****, but your right I don't recall anything towards Barrera, It was mainly dues to him saying Allah had written it and he obviously took that back after the fight.

I loved watching Cotto make Mayorga quit the other week.

I loved watching wipe the floor in a thriller with Mayorga.

I didn't get any pleasure out of it but thought Tyson's trash talk was absolutely hilarious against Lewis even though he ended up getting beat down badley.

he didn't actually die in the ring but yeah, emile griffith was seemingly mad as hell and he was normally very nice guy with a generous spirit. at least that's how i see it.

the guy who died was benny paret.

I watched a segment a while back of Emile Griffith in old age where he talks about how he was never the same fighter after Paret 3.

I don't know how honest he is being, but to think he wasn't the same fighter after that and to then have the resume he has after that fight is astonishing.

He even went on to the be the best fighter of the 60's, IMO.

Emile Griffith truley is an amazing fighter.
