View Full Version : Most embarrassing loss by a Great Fighter?
SweetScience 12-17-2004, 10:02 PM For me, it has to be Leonard getting owned by Hector NOT so Macho Camacho. YES, both men were waaaayyyy past their prime BUT Leonard was in the ring with the likes of Duran,Benitez,Hearns,Hagler and Norris. Those men couldnt stop Leonard like Camacho did. What's more crazier Camacho is a ***** cat... a cuttie afraid to take risks, get hit etc. Seeing that Camacho started his career at 130 and Leonard at 147...Camacho stopped the great Ray Leonard...God damn that's embarrassing!!! Ray Leonard is also one of favorite fighters of all time...that hurted when I seen that **** go down.

SweetScience 12-17-2004, 10:08 PM ^Thanks for the complement.
JaNnO 12-17-2004, 10:52 PM ^Thanks for the complement.
more recently, mab by pac...the odd-makers didn't event give pac a small chance of beating the p4p and former featherweight peoples' champ...even more so when he was beaten into submission. it was a complete victory for pac, save mab excuses.
Hunna 12-17-2004, 11:07 PM i feel a little sorry for Iron Mike, cos hes no longer in his prime and was beaten by a much less skilled and talented opponent in Danny Williams.
I would love to see him show the world, whos the real heavyweight champ again, but hes past his prime. These other pretenders wouldnt be able to tie Iron Mikes shoelace when he was in his prime.
grayfist 12-17-2004, 11:25 PM Tyson on the canvass for the first time, having been blasted by Bonecrusher in Tokyo. The image of the BADDEST MAN ON THE PLANET groping for his mouthpiece is both pathetic and embarrasing. :o As, was watching a frustrated Tyson bite a chunk off Vander's ear. :o
And there's the GREAT ALI, losing to Leon Spinks, and, Larry Holmes becoming the only reigning Heavyweight champion to cede his belt to a LightHeavyweight champ going up (Mchael Spinks), in all of history, while having a crack at chalking up the best winning record in Heavyweight championship boxing and besting Marciano's 49-0. (Ruiz losing to Roy Jones doesn't come close! ;) )
IwatchBoxing 12-17-2004, 11:26 PM Roy Jones Jr double KO losses
suetombo 12-18-2004, 12:36 AM nah it wasnt bonecrusher smith it was buster douglas...
pac vs mab
rjj vs tarver
rjj vs johnson
Kimmy 12-18-2004, 03:07 AM I think a great fighter is a boxer who has lost but came back from the loss to either win the rematch or achieve great things there after. But a precieved great fighter who got shelled in an upset i would have to make an honorable mention to Naseem Hamed. This guy that bigging himself up and got hammered by Marco and didn`t even want to return to the ring after that.
Mr. Violence 12-18-2004, 04:49 AM to me its an old fight. duran vs. hearns..it was supposed to be competitive....but hearns beat the "great" duran like a little beeatch...knocked him unconscious in the 2nd round.
Italian250 12-18-2004, 08:40 AM The final answer to the question asked in this thread is Duran quitting to Leonard in 1980. Duran was a legend before his first fight with Leonard which he won in a grueling war. Then, to quit in a rematch with Leonard 6 months later was the ultimate embarrassment to a big name fighter ever! ****, they wouldn't even let him back in his home country for a while after that!!
grayfist 12-18-2004, 10:36 AM nah it wasnt bonecrusher smith it was buster douglas...Stand corrected...ThanKs!I was thinking Buster but typed out Bonecrusher. Didn't notice it till you pointed it out! Stupid of me! Thanks again! :) Now, I AM embarrased! :o ;)
marvdave 12-18-2004, 12:19 PM definitely Leonard v Camacho. pretty freaking sad watching Sugar get brutalized by Camacho.
others
Holyfield-Donald
Frazier-Cummings (it was a draw, but same sadness)
Lewis-McCall
Duran-Laing
semjasa 12-18-2004, 12:22 PM It has to be Duran being out outclassed and pointed by the Gifted One Kirkland Lang.
BDBowe 12-18-2004, 01:35 PM tyson vs lewis was pretty sad to me
jack_the_rippuh 12-18-2004, 01:37 PM I never seen all of Ali-Berbick, but was it bad?
BDBowe 12-18-2004, 01:44 PM ali berbick wasnt a beating but it was a boxing lesson
Atwa_66 12-18-2004, 04:35 PM James Douglas-Mike Tyson (1991, Tyson KO'ed)
dodge 12-18-2004, 04:36 PM James Douglas-Mike Tyson (1991, Tyson KO'ed)
agreed....
BDBowe 12-18-2004, 05:05 PM hearns-barkley was bad too
psychopath 12-18-2004, 05:15 PM It's got to be RJJ's KO by Tarver. Sure we have a lot of great fighters who lost with great embarrashment . . . but what could be worst than the HERALDED top p4p being sent flat on back by a not so good opponent. :D
BDBowe 12-18-2004, 05:16 PM It's got to be RJJ's KO by Tarver. Sure we have a lot of great fighters who lost with great embarrashment . . . but what could be worst than the HERALDED top p4p being sent flat on back by a not so good opponent. :D
Agreed. Then knocked out by a journeyman. Roy really needs to quit or become focused again.
Colonel Jones 12-18-2004, 06:18 PM It has to be Duran being out outclassed and pointed by the Gifted One Kirkland Lang.
I forgot about that one. Yes it's always sad to see a great past his prime get beat by a sub-par fighter. Also ranking pretty high has got to be Joe Louis getting brutaly beaten by Rocky Marciano (who use to idolize Joe when he was a kid)
Colonel Jones 12-18-2004, 06:20 PM Also I think Duran lost a 3 round decision to some japanese pro rassler in an exibition bout. That's pretty embarrasing to even win that crap.
Tyson_Bit_Holyfields_Ear 12-18-2004, 07:39 PM Tyson - Williams was pretty bad.
Supafly25 12-19-2004, 02:10 AM cant believe no one has mentioned Trinidad being owned by Hopkins.
James Douglas-Mike Tyson (1991, Tyson KO'ed)
Yeah that MUST be it.
Hunna 12-19-2004, 08:36 AM Duran loss in exhb, damn, now thats embarassing. Gotta remember though, Duran prime was at light-weight, not middle. For most of his career, he wasnt near his peak fitness as a middleweight.
Truth 12-19-2004, 09:48 AM Roy Jones Jr.'s loss to Tarver because before the fight Jones talked about how he could not be beaten. And then one punch ended in 2 rounds.
BoxingPromoter 12-19-2004, 01:41 PM Most embarressing loss by the "greatest" fighter, Muhammad Ali
is his lost to then 6-0-1 fighter Leon the "latest" Spinks.Spinks fought a gutsy fight being the aggressor and hitting Ali with everything he had. But his techinique was horrible and Ali had no business losing to someone like Leon. But, I guess all great fighters have off nights once in a while.
elveiel 12-19-2004, 01:51 PM Rahman KOing Lewis

Great 12-19-2004, 01:58 PM Tyson-Buster.
elveiel 12-19-2004, 02:01 PM I wouldnt call Zab a great fighter but this is a embarrassing loss for very good fighter!! SILLY CHICKEN DANCE! :D

joeytrimble 04-23-2006, 10:48 AM gotta go with
roy jones vs james toney -not sure but i've heard toney was favored
james braddock vs max baer - braddock was something like 4 -1
jack dempsey vs jess willard - depsey was 10-1 under
and last but not least
vernon forrest! vs ricardo mayorga! - cant belive nobody did this one
LondonRingRules 04-23-2006, 11:54 AM For me, it has to be Leonard getting owned by Hector NOT so Macho Camacho. ** Camacho couldn't break an egg at 160, but at least he's a HOF lock.
Undisputed heavyweight champ Ali losing to inexperienced amateur Neon Leon who proved to be nothing but a marginal journeyman, that is the biggest embarrassment in boxing history. It's also a shameful part of the Ali legacy, but not surprising given the way he had been propped up with gift decisions his last years.
mattbythebay 04-23-2006, 01:12 PM i feel a little sorry for Iron Mike, cos hes no longer in his prime and was beaten by a much less skilled and talented opponent in Danny Williams.

.....................................lol..holyfiel d..whooped him in his prime...he fits in the category with the HWs in the division today...but the problem is i dont think he would do as good today if he was in his prime u gotta remember Mike fought alot of nobodies to get to the championship and when he fought some good fighters he got his ass handed to him.....can we say over-rated!...so go on with that and have a nice day!
TheEvilSaint 04-23-2006, 02:00 PM either louis losing to marciano or ali losing to holmes (or berbick).
elgaringo 04-23-2006, 02:06 PM I know Harris is'nt a great but when he lost to mausa, that was pretty embarrasing :boxing: :boxing:
Southpaw Stinger 04-23-2006, 02:13 PM Undefeated Frazier going down 6 times in 5 minutes against Foreman.
Undefeated Tyson getting KO'd by Douglas.
Ali losing to Leon.
Lewis being KO'd twice by guys he should have beat with relative ease.
blockhead 04-23-2006, 05:46 PM cant believe no one has mentioned Trinidad being owned by Hopkins.
there is nothing embarrasing about getting wrecked by b-hop.
the_truth_1984 04-23-2006, 06:24 PM Jones being ko'd by Tarver. The worst part is that it made Tarver look like a great fighter which he isn't.Tyson being ko'd by the 42-1 underdog Douglas.Douglas had shown in the past that he had talent but couldn't put it all together like in his ko loss to Tony Tubbs I believe. When he was winning the fight but ran out of gas and was ko'd.
MISTA_SANDMAN 04-24-2006, 12:51 PM Or Winky--- Plus a few more would be: Tyson vs Busta, both RJJ Ko loses, De La Hoya rolling and crying on the mat after Hopkins dropped him, Hamed getting bashed by MAB cant believe no one has mentioned Trinidad being owned by Hopkins.
MISTA_SANDMAN 04-24-2006, 12:52 PM ****, I almost forgot about a juiced up Vargas getting TKO'd by Oscar------
Sttuddahboy619 04-24-2006, 01:05 PM I have to say MAB vs. PAC
and RJJ vs. A.Tarver II.
Hitman932 04-24-2006, 01:11 PM it just warms my heart to hear any reference to MAB vs. Hamed
i always thought marco would win that fight. i said a prayer the night before the fight that was laced with swear words in regards to the prince.
legacyofbrutality 04-24-2006, 01:49 PM Even though there is no shame in losing to someone like MAB, when Hamed lost to him that had to be pretty embarassing when u think about how no one really gave MAB a chance and how much the public was pimping hamed as such a great fighter, literally in that fight all i saw was lunging punches by Hamed and smooth counters and great combinations by barrera.
I always thought that rjj losing to glen johnson was pretty embarassing too.
rorymac 09-13-2011, 03:47 AM Not a great fighter, but Nate Campbell has to be mentioned in this thread.
gauze 09-13-2011, 03:55 AM winky wright getting shutout by paul williams
Michael Spinks vs. Mike Tyson. After all that he had accomplished in his career, why was he so afraid of that one man?
jaded 09-13-2011, 04:47 AM I don't know if Nate Campbell qualifies as a great fighter...but non-the less,,I can't remember who he was fighting..but towards the end of a fight that he was winning he put his hands behind his back and dared his opponent to hit him (a la Roy Jone Jr) and got knocked out. I never laughed harder while watching a fight.
BoxerDood 09-13-2011, 05:28 AM Lennox Lewis getting KTFO by Rahman was very embarrassing.
BoxerDood 09-13-2011, 05:29 AM I don't know if Nate Campbell qualifies as a great fighter...but non-the less,,I can't remember who he was fighting..but towards the end of a fight that he was winning he put his hands behind his back and dared his opponent to hit him (a la Roy Jone Jr) and got knocked out. LOL I remember that one. It was Robbie Peden or something like that. But I remember boxrec saying they had a rematch and Peden knocked him out again. What the hell happened that time??

I think you right...Robbie Peden. What happened is Campbell was winning bt a wide margin and the fight was almost over and he wanted to showboat for everyone to look good and paid a huge price for being over-****y. It was classic...he got KO'd big time!
Here ...I found the link...he didn't put his hands behind his back as I thought...he just dropped both his hands and walked into him and wanted to show he had the head movement to avoid his punches. He slipped away from 2 of Peden's punches and then got caught with the 3rd.

SekondzOut 09-13-2011, 04:40 PM just when I was over Tyson getting KTFO by Buster Douglass...he then go and loses to Danny Williams and Kevin McBride...smh
