Now, 2004 hasn't been a vintage year for heavyweights by any means. In fact, we're almost inarguably in the era of the worst heavyweight period in history. Yet there have been some good fights... haven't there?

I've placed nine of the most high-profile bouts (all featuring ranked contenders or champs) and left a tenth option as "other" in case there's one you really think I ought to have included. Vote now!!

Won't it be better if we'll just forget about Heavyweights 2004 and move on?

Oh, wait a second...! Looking ahead, there's not much to expect for 2005, either! :o

1. I liked Vitaliy-Sanders the most.

The first four rounds were very competitive too.

Sanders has shown amazing hand-speed and heart.

2. I also liked Byrd-Golota and Byrd-McCline.

3. Vitali-Williams was good too.

if you see a sanders fight where he looses...
it normally is at least a decent fight, because he's so tough.
:D

Sanders is quite amazing. It is so bad that he has been overlooked for years. Only Rahman and K2 did not duck him, while LL did.

I think if Sanders fought Lennox he would have destroyed him.

That Sanders comment is ridiculous, even by Nautilus standards (lol - at least I didn't say Johnny Swift standards)

Toney-Holyfield was 2003.

I voted for Byrd-Golota; Toney-Holyfield was LAST year so I was bringing that to the thread originator's attention, since it shouldn't be a selection.

Byrd-Golota was a very close styles clash. VK-Sanders was a no defense slugfest that was quite one-sided, hardly a fight of the year candidate.

I thought you'd be the first to admit that Vitali dominated that one?

Vitali Klitschko vs. Corrie Sanders,no doubt.
Byrd-Golota is garbage.

3 rounds of a scheduled 12 hardly makes a FOY candidate.

I might have gone crazy but the HW fight I liked most in 2004 was Sinan Samil Sam vs. Dennis Bakthov (sp?). One hell of a war.

'Other' suggestion: Joe Mesi vs. Vassily Jirov - late knockdowns put the outcome in question...

First of all, apologies for including James Toney vs. Evander Holyfield. As I'd actually bothered to check the fight records of the contenders for this year then I'm surprised I let one like that go through. (Maybe I got distracted seeing the "04" from this bout's 23/04/2003? Maybe I was tired? Oh well...)

Also, apologies for not including Wlad-Brewster, though no one's asked for it anyway.

Vit-Sanders the best? I'm surprised, I thought it was technically one of the poorest fights I've seen all year. Sanders was only prepared for a two-round fight.

Perhaps, but it deffinetly was the most entertaining fight of the. And thats what most fans are after.

Definately Klitschko - Williams for me.
