View Full Version : PS2 via composite video on an HDTV
FibreOptic 12-17-2004, 09:25 AM I just recently purchased an HDTV. I was told by a salesperson that if I am to play the PS2 on it, I should purchase a component video cable (69.99). I did not buy it yet, but I spoke to a sales guy at a game store and he said it really makes no difference on an HDTV. He said there is a difference on the X-Box, but only for certain games. I hate getting conflicting information like this. Has anyone hooked up a PS2 to an HDTV using component video cables? If so, how much different is it?

So these people at Best Buy are full of it?
bigdlb12 12-17-2004, 01:14 PM yes full of it, monster cables might make a diff but not much, ps2 has no games in HD so it will be a waste of money

I don't know about PS2, but I own an Xbox and I bought the Component video cable and the fiber optic cable for the digital audio and it looks and sounds a lot better...the HD cable cost me $20 from Microsoft and bought the digital audio cable for about $10 in a music store...
bigdlb12 12-26-2005, 06:31 PM I was looking for this topic because I have to go back on my word, I said it made no deference but it does, it makes a huge difference. I just got some monster brand component cables for Christmas, my buddy who works at best buy got them for me, he has been telling me I should get some, well I never did and now I see why he said to go get them. Man no lie, I can read **** better and it now gives the PS2 a lot of justice for its games, fight night, madden, grand turismo all these games look way better, I recommend these cables to anyone out there.
my HDTV has a 2000:1 contrast ratio FYI

is it for PS2, if you have a buddy who has the component cables for PS2, ask to see them, give it a try and go from there, my cousin let me borrow his s-video cable for ps2 but these new component make everything better, its like me getting a new game system, but for sure when the ps3 comes out, I am getting the component cables
