View Full Version : Barrera Playing Hard To Get
JaNnO 12-17-2004, 12:50 AM In his recent interview with HBO Latino, Barrera who was still fresh from his victory over Erik Morales in November said, "For 2005, a bout with Manny Pacquiao is my top priority. Yet, we will have to wait and see, he has a fight with Juan Manuel Marquez he needs to win first and that is not an easy fight for him."
By the sound of it, it seems that Barrera was hesitant to stake his newly regained status against Pac unless the latter gets past Marquez.
C'mmon Marco, the guy dealt you the most humiliating loss in your boxing career, and yet you sounded like you were not interested in redeeming yourself?
Whatever happened to your pride as a warrior?

What are you talking about?
For 2005, a bout with Manny Pacquiao is my top priority.
all he said was that its not a sure thing whats gonna happen in the Marquez fight and he's right.

Yeah...and he also said Pac has to win first? What does that mean to you, then?
Sir_Jose 12-17-2004, 01:07 AM Yeah...and he also said Pac has to win first? What does that mean to you, then?
Well dont you think if Pac losses to Marquez the big fight that everyone including HBO would want is a Marquez/Pac rematch.
m00ks 12-17-2004, 01:19 AM I'm pretty sure he MAB meant that Pac has to get passed Marquez first before a rematch with him which don't make sense cause he got his ass whooped for 11 rounds. He should be the one running after Manny P.
Mr. Violence 12-17-2004, 01:25 AM in mab defense, i wouldnt wanna fight pacman either after getting thoroughly devestated by him like he did the first time.
Well dont you think if Pac losses to Marquez the big fight that everyone including HBO would want is a Marquez/Pac rematch.Jose your completely 100% bias when it comes to your hispanic fighters, lets face it Barrera and his handlers know that they CANNOT, NO WAY IN HELL, HELL WILL FREEZE OVER before they beat Pacquaio. At the same time I don't think Pac will beat Marquez in the rematch unless he gets a k.o. or a gift from the judges.
abdiel2k3 12-17-2004, 01:55 AM obviously he meant manny needs to get by jmm
whether he meant that would effect his desire to fight him
im not so sure
all he said is
ya i wanna fight him again
but first hes gotta get by jmm
"then we'll fight"
so just sayin first things first
maybe he thinks pac will beat jmm
and get past him to reach him
who knows

Well we've already established the fact that your dumbass so whatever you say is pretty much meaningless, but I'll adress your point anyway.
Please tell me what is wrong with what MAB said?
Is it not rue that if Pac was to lose to Marquez the fight everyone would then want to make would be a 3rd fight between Marquez and Pac?

mr. bojangles 12-17-2004, 02:37 AM Veering off away for a moment from the MAB-Pac rematch, i just read in the local boxing mag here that WBA superfeatherweight champ Yodsanan 3K Battery Nanthachai's mgt. has offered a unification challenge to Barrera. Allegedly, team Barrera has demanded not less than 2M US$ and HBO wasn't too keen on this proposed fight. GBP is looking for a more lucrative unification with the WBO champ Mike Anchondo.
I'm afraid the real 3K Battery might just end up fighting mandatories. :o

Saying you want a fight doesn't mean a godamn thing. Ricky Hatton has been doing this for years. Let 3-K EARN a big fight cause as of now he's done nothing to deserve a shot at any big time star.
2 million is normal for MAB.

I wonder what Eddie Croft did to EARN a shot from Erik Morales.
Naah, this is boxing...the red light bizniz of sports.
Jose, i understand your point.

THRILLAinmanila 12-17-2004, 02:51 AM does anyone think pac will ko jmm?
Of course there are. I'm betting all my points next Feb. :D :p
JOM'S 12-17-2004, 04:20 AM does anyone think pac will ko jmm?
yeah, most pac fans believe Manny will win via KO and like Thrilla I will also bet all my points which i have been saving since i join boxing scene...

First "a bout with Manny Pacquiao is my top priority"
and then "we will have to wait and see, he has a fight with Juan Manuel Marquez he needs to win first and that is not an easy fight for him."
What does he mean by "we will have to wait and see" ?? IF and IF PAC loss his bout with JMM. will MAB give PAC a shot at his WBC belt? his statement isnt clear maybe he's really afraid

I think he meant we'll have to see first if Pac beats JMM. I do believe though he will again fight Pac, if anything...for the BIG money involved :)
JOM'S 12-17-2004, 05:05 AM MAB has mentioned before that the re-match with PAC is for revenge, but along the way instead of facing the PAC he fought EM, which was a very good move business wise cuz there was a lot of money involve plus that fact he won against EM...
now if his priority for 2005 is to fight the PAC and the re-match is for revenge, then no matter what the result of PAC-JMM 2, MAB should fight the PAC...
now with MAB's latest statement, i guess its all just business...
he is 100% afraid of pacman :D
Xecutioner 12-17-2004, 05:19 AM if anything he is afraid of marquez. only mentioning a match with pacman, what about if marquez wins? he doesnt wanna fight him?
moochi 12-17-2004, 06:18 AM it is more than obvious that he wants to avoid the pacman as much as possible and try to resurrect his career with the controversial win over morales.

you are inferring mab is scared of pac? weather pac hands his ass to him again or not is a matter for debate, what is not is that mab is scared of no-one.
I think Barrera does better in a rematch but pac still stops him.
PacKillsMorales 12-17-2004, 11:40 AM it is more than obvious that he wants to avoid the pacman as much as possible and try to resurrect his career with the controversial win over morales.
controversial?
elbows??
looked like the first decent decision in a mab-em fight
DR. FREECLOUD 12-17-2004, 12:55 PM controversial?
elbows??

that is so true. they got the first two wrong but that 3rd fight was called the way i saw it.
Chups 12-17-2004, 01:04 PM does anyone think pac will ko jmm?
I do.... coz he almost did. It was a mistake on Roach/pacteam's part, giving too much credit on JMM's power. This time Pac is going to make every round like the 1st round of their first fight. :D (meaning pressure Marquez at all cost...that's when JMM is most ineffective) :p
Chups 12-17-2004, 01:07 PM it is more than obvious that he wants to avoid the pacman as much as possible and try to resurrect his career with the controversial win over morales.
It was controversial in a way that the judges gave too many rounds to Eric Morales. The fight was 1 sided, it was never close in my eyes. MAB dominated EM. :p
FightFan214 12-17-2004, 01:16 PM he is 100% afraid of pacman :D
Why must you pacman nutlickers must twist every Pacman foe's statement into some bull**** about how they are afraid! Im sick of this ****, dint you phucking see that he said it was his TOP PRIORITY!
MetalVomit 12-17-2004, 01:19 PM it is more than obvious that he wants to avoid the pacman as much as possible and try to resurrect his career with the controversial win over morales.
i dont see how the win over Morales was controversial, other than the fact that the HBO head wanted a high profile opponent that they "knew" Morales would walk through to set up a fight with Pac. And Pac isnt going to beat Marquez.
MetalVomit 12-17-2004, 01:21 PM I do.... coz he almost did. It was a mistake on Roach/pacteam's part, giving too much credit on JMM's power. This time Pac is going to make every round like the 1st round of their first fight. :D (meaning pressure Marquez at all cost...that's when JMM is most ineffective) :p
Pac better be in good shape for that. It seemed from the second round on that Marquez made Pac look like an ordinary fighter, much like Oscar did to Tito for 9 rounds straight. I still think Marquez pulled it out, but damn, them 3 knockdowns. I dont want to argue about the one judge that gave it a 10-7 round. That's not as big a mistake as people think. A 3 knockdown round has been scored 10-7 before. All I know is I can't wait for this fight.
JaNnO 12-17-2004, 01:27 PM Well dont you think if Pac losses to Marquez the big fight that everyone including HBO would want is a Marquez/Pac rematch.
Not until MAB settles the score with Pac...no matter what the outcome of the Pac-JMM fight, if MAB wants to prove that he wasn't the same guy whom Manny annihilated last year, then he should fight the Filipino once and for all.

i wasn't implying that. i said marco has to redeem himself from the humiliating defeat he suffered against pacman. he isn't afraid of the pacman, he just isn't sure if he can beat the guy. :D

Something got lost in translation. Im sure he said Manny needs to fight JMM first then win or lose he will seek a rematch. This was on HBO Latino right?Hbo needs better translators cause they always say the wrong **** or **** the wrong way.
Sir_Jose 12-17-2004, 03:43 PM Keep in mind these are the same Pac fans that screamed up and down that JMM was scared of fighting Pac again when the remtach was set all along.
Boxer2005 12-17-2004, 03:50 PM That would be an interesting match to see...
Chups 12-17-2004, 05:06 PM Keep in mind these are the same Pac fans that screamed up and down that JMM was scared of fighting Pac again when the remtach was set all along.
But JMM did turn down an immediate rematch at first...right? He needed to fight a patsy first to gain his confidence back.

JaNnO 12-18-2004, 10:50 AM hey yo...be kewl yah guys...or else you'll get my spanking...lol :)...no racist remark, rsl...and fightfan stop your name calling and cursing will yah?
back to topic...jose the source of this topic was hbo latino...just wanna point that out.
the facts:
jmm didn't want a rematch with pac after their first fight and he clearly said that the same night.
mab backed out from an agreement with arum to fight pac this year presumably for the money and to ktfo erik.
mab after his win with erik didn't call out pacman.it's only now that hbo is dangling an offer to pacman to fight erik in july that mab suddenly became interested, albeit not much since he sent a mixed signal.
erik has been the only one who is openly saying he wants to fight pac. erik among the three has the bigger balls imho.
cheers and lighten up your day, mi amigos. cill out and relax!

learn how to quote all by yourself big guy? This has gotten downright stupid, but hey your drunk, I'm drunk so lets take this outside buddy. FYI, I was well aware of the error, I just didn't care to correct it and how do you spell Manila again? Why does it matter where I got my information from, it was Freddie Roach's comments anyway, face it buddy, you and Barrera are a bunch of Mexican'ts.

As much as you hate Pacman fans (hopefully not all of them), it will always be good for boxing. It was the same way Mexican gloated and bragged when JCC came into the spotlight. (And maybe the way boricuas treated Tito) These types of fighters are rare ( im not comparing pacman with JCC ) but Filipinos have other fighters to root for. (not the way you percieve that Filipinos wait for a looooong time for champions to come out). Asian fighters tends to dominate the lower weights which is unpopular in the U.S. , the reason why you don't think there are other "Champions" in the Philippines. Peace. :p

I dont hate all pacman fans, just mostly the ones who put a hugely nationalist biased spin on it. I should have put "Puerto Ricans" in there, my mistake. Well P4P is a list, different people put different names in there. In the "American" based P4P list, it would be a surprise to see a fighter who never fought in the U.S to be there. Hmmmmm.... actually I dont know anybody who hasn't fought in the U.S. to be there. It's simply sad coz its 7000 miles away from "real" boxing media. You need to be extra talented with lots of "who you know" kinda thing to get you the recognition you deserve. Had pacman not replace that guy who was to fight Ledwaba in the U.S., would you think boxing fans would have known him? Anyway.......got to go :) :)

The best fighters are in america or fight in america away from your little village/hometown/homecrowd.
You fight here because its where all the big media, pressure and stardum await. You either make it in america or you dont, the american p4p list is the most legit and displays the best fighters who have shown to be elite on all levels and facets of their skills. Thats why its like that, who can deny that an american p4p list doesnt have the best and most skilled fighters in the world on their lists

I know who you are, your the thai fanboy who couldnt take it when you had to accept the fact that mexican fighters are 400million times more reckonized and more revered, and reknowned and accomplished than any thai fighter on this planet earth.
The State Penn..?

Oh and again your wrong. Your gonna have to dig a little deeper into my posts before you start accusing and assuming and start to type away again.
Sir_Jose 12-19-2004, 01:17 AM The nerves of some people, you don't have to look too far on who's following who!
Yeah I know. Did you see me come on here and make any refference to you whatsoever?, but your very post on this thread what did you do?...thats right drop my name.

Dont even try and reason with this kid and make no mistake thats exactly what he is a KID.
He's a hardcore racist who throws his famous hissy fits when someone disagrees with him..
Uh oh, a Black Jesus and a Jose teaming up, what a combo, two guys from the State penitentiary. I 'm not even gonna bother, please read my previous posts and get back at me and what the hell made you think I'm filipino, idiots. How is this racist? Someone calling themselves Black Jesus, why do you have to make it a point that Jesus is black? I'd like to know who has the inferiority complex here?
Sir_Jose 12-19-2004, 01:34 AM As much as you hate Pacman fans (hopefully not all of them), it will always be good for boxing. Peace
Name me all the Filipino World Champions please. Last time I checked there was 1.
Hate to break it to you, but if you haven't fought here then your nobody. Do you know why? because this is where the best fighters in the world are. To even suggest that there is better competion outside of America is laughable, not saying you did, but thats how you move up a p4p list by fighting other top guys.
all the biggest foriegn stars have to come here to prove themselves. Lewis, Hamed, Duran, Chavez, Pac...etc.

My god your a joke.
Well it's obvious that we all have alot of time in our hands, so in all sincerity, if both of you Mr. Black Jesus and Senor Jose, sift through some of my posts and please take your time, I know it may take you guys weeks to comprehend all that info. Just curious how did you guys do in your reading comprehension in school?
itsbusdriver 12-19-2004, 01:39 AM all you die hard Pac fans make it seem that Pac is unstopable and will walk all over Marquez.. that may be the case if he smoothers JMM counterpunching style.. listen.. im a PAC fan also and proud to be a FIL-AM.. but as of right now, my bet is on JMM... JMM is in shape, he is focused for Feb 26, no distractions, and his style is perfect for Pacs all out, aggressive style.. IMO the 3k fight did not prove anything.. he still has the power and speed, but it is obvious that he still needs work on his right... i noticed his use of the right hook and thats a plus.. but he needs to work on that jab.. i see the fight 60-40 for JMM right now.. Pac needs to get to work and focus on the fight.. i hope he proves me wrong coming Feb 26th.. Go Pac!
My god your a joke.Josie, do you even know what I'm referring to?

Its just a user name, there is no point to prove.
JOM'S 12-19-2004, 03:19 AM to answer some of the question at present the PI have one p4p or champion, but there are bunch of guys who are prospects just wait for them it wont be a loooongtime as some here suggests ...
"if you haven't fought here then your nobody" this is one of the sad thing in boxing you have to fight in the USA to be globally recognized, 7000 miles is a long way to take a fight and not to many fighters from Asia are given the chance ....
"To even suggest that there is better competion outside of America is laughable", this is another sad one, its not that there is a better competion outside of the USA where most of the best boxer congregate, but it is the lack of scouting for talent eastward...
you got injin chi out from nowhere, he gave EM a fight...
you got pac out of nowehere, he gave MAB a beating and fought JMM in a classic fight....
so how many more chis or pacuiaos are out there, we may never know if they will not be given the chance to prove themselves and give the competition in the US a run for their money... http://www.boxingscene.com/media/data/518/12176peace_350.gif
olympic boy 12-19-2004, 04:02 AM mab jmm em are all afraid of pacman............. :D

I never disputed that the U.S. is the way to go. It is !!
That's why I said its SAD!! Its sad that its 7000 miles away.... but what if Thailand was beside the continental U.S.?...don't you think there will be more recognized Thai champions?
m00ks 12-19-2004, 11:34 AM Why must you pacman nutlickers must twist every Pacman foe's statement into some bull**** about how they are afraid! Im sick of this ****, dint you phucking see that he said it was his TOP PRIORITY!
