how do you think history will remember him?

he was a very exciting fighter to watch, and had devestating power, had one of the best chins in his era. he should have fought tyson, that would have been a great fight

He was a tough guy....

Not a paricularly excellent boxer, as shown by ol' man Larry Holmes totally clowning him.

He brought some excitement....so he'll be remembered fondly.

It was a shame that the last fight i watched him in was against Wlad!! He give Lewis some trouble years ago.

His fight with Holyfield was a war. But against Larry Holmes, and then again against "The Boogieman" he got VERY lazy.

I always thought that Ray MErcer had all the talent in the world and he easily could have become a real champion. However I don't know if I ever saw him in real serious fight shape...His war with LL and his gross ko over Tommy Morrison are things I never will forget!

i think if he had the conditioning he could have been oe of the greats. i remember watching one fight where he knocked the guy out of the ring and the guy was out cold. he did get beat by wlad, but by then he was an old man

He could've had more success if he'd gotten his butt in shape and fought at 215 rather then 235. He had limited skills but a good strong jab and very good power in his right hand, plus a great chin. He was an excellent gatekeeper and fringe contender who I thought deserved the decision against a prime Lewis, but loss to Ferguson and gift against Marion Wilson really hurt his legacy . . .

Great

I like Ray`s fights. An excellent chin and the powerful punches. Respect.

His finest hour was his KO of Tommy Morrison.........That's sad!
