View Full Version : Vernon Forrest houses hurricane victims
Super_Lightweight 09-08-2005, 09:28 PM Former welterweight champion Vernon Forrest is funding housing in Atlanta, Georgia for five New Orleans families left homeless in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. On a September 1st telethon presented by Atlanta radio station V103FM, Forrest donated over $6000 that will provide month long stays for the families at the Amerisuites Hotel in Atlanta. In another act of generosity, Forrest learned that the mother in one of the families suffered from high blood pressure and was in urgent need of assistance. He personally escorted her to a nearby drugstore and kindly covered the cost. The following day, Forrest participated in a live telethon WAGA-FOX5 telethon that helped raise more than $5.5 million dollars for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. "As Americans we should all feel compelled to help as able," said Forrest. "I strongly encourage my fellow boxers and the entire boxing community to recognize their potential in aiding the Hurricane relief efforts. The people really need our assistance."

Not sure what your point is.
Should of just praised Forrest, instead of bashing two guys who have nothing to do with anything I posted.

Thanks for bringing that 2 attention, more people need 2do this instead of *****ing about how others have handled the situation
Bombardier 09-08-2005, 10:44 PM I always thought Vernon was a stand-up guy, so good for him.
Speaking of Roy Jones, has anyone heard anything from him about this? I'm just asking because he's from Louisiana (unless I'm crazy for thinking that) so I didn't know if he had any family, friend, etc. affected by this.

...Now that's some genuine support from a genuine individual.

Yep, you're crazy. :o
Roy Jones is 100% Floridian.
Speaking of Roy, no one has heard anything from him about anything since the Tarver fight was announced. On lock down it seems like to me.

Let me rephrase that...
FORREST, who doesn't have 1/10th of the money RJJ and DLH make in one fight, but he still tried to help as much as he could...
Forrest=A class act..
Actually, I will take RJJ off the list, because he's in training for the BIGGEST fight of his career, and he can't have distractions...
RJJ would help if he wasn't training...
DLH is the punk *****!
Forrest and RJJ = Class Acts
DLH = Scum
Manny_P 09-08-2005, 11:23 PM i heard all NFL players were asked to donate at least 5,000 bucks. It's a good thing.
Oscar de hoya should be able to help. He makin mad dough like nuts!

I agree with you...
I'm sure he can donate about 1 million out of the 100 million he has right now...
DLH = Scum piece of shiznite!
Pac Man Fan 83 09-08-2005, 11:26 PM Deion Sanders asked every pro athelte to donate $1,000. Warrick Dunn took it a step farther and asked every NFL player, minues the Saints of course, to donate $5,000.
If every NFL player did that, it would raise $8.2 million.

As much as I don't like Microsoft, check out how much money Bill Gates has personally donated to health research ...
http://www.realcities.com/mld/krwashington/news/special_packages/good_news/11688856.htm
I think he gave a few hundred million for the improvement of American schools in 2005. Just look around and check out how much money this guy has given to various good causes. The guy has made bigger donations than some countries have put up for AIDs vaccines etc.
Back to boxing ... I think guys like DLH or Jones or whomever is making the big bucks, should step up and use their money to help. And the thing is, maybe they are and we just don't know about it. Not every celebrity with money makes a publicity stunt of their donations. Or maybe boxers are not considered big enough celebrities to be newsworthy in the regular media, so that's why we haven't heard to much about it. I wouldn't count these guys out, just because you haven't read about it in the paper, or seen it on the news ... or read about it on the internet.
