View Full Version : What are chances of Byrd-Ruiz bout
BoxingPromoter 12-16-2004, 10:12 AM seeing as both fighters are controlled(literally) by Don King, what are the chances of a unification bout between them? If the beltholders don't fight each other, who else are they going to fight. Besides Toney, the heavyweight division is running out of contenders for these guys to fight? Who in there right mind is gonna want to see a Ruiz-Rahman II or Golota II.
jabsRstiff 12-16-2004, 10:14 AM Who in their right mind would want to see Byrd-Ruiz ?
neils7147933 12-16-2004, 10:16 AM Why not? As long as King keeps the belts he doesn't care. Once he thinks he's milked enough out of them separately, he'll let the fight happen.
It's not like they're big individual cash cows. They have to fight on each other's cards to enhance the marketability of the fights.
But in the end, boxing fans buy heavyweight title fights, no matter how many on the card or what name/face is attached to them.

You, me, and alot of other boxing fans on this message board. ;)

I don't want to see that trash....& if you like boxing...you shouldn't want to see it either.
Who in their right mind would want to see Byrd-Ruiz ?
lol....
it does make a point as to who the top guy in the division is... all ruiz and byrd talk about is fighting VK and not each other or brewster, even though those fights would be easier to make...
I think he might be scared..
if the unification starts, then eventually a non-King champion (VK) would be assumed to fight as well. and if the fight goes off cleanly with no outside influences AND VK does happen to win, Don King is empty handed in the HW division unless he has options on the winner, which it seems K2 won't due, wisely..
just my opinion..
if he keeps it this way, as you've stated, it's more of a milking opportunity for him.

Okay jabsstiff, what kind of heavyweight bouts would you like to(and pay) to see?

None involving this current crop.
I'm serious.
ejk22 12-16-2004, 10:48 AM If you care about your eyesight, you will not want to watch that fight. Like I said on another board, a Ruiz vs Byrd fight will not even generate 100,000 buys.
moochi 12-16-2004, 10:56 AM exactly, and i can't see dk putting this together, because not just would he have no ppv buys, but he wouldn't even fill the house.
i can already see King's next crap card:
Ruiz vs Donald
Byrd vs TOS
Rahman vs Fres
Golota vs meehan
I can almost gurantee that'll be it, in some shape or form

Your probaly right Guru, what a f*#cking sad state the heavyweight division has become. However, I would pay to see one of the so-called champs fight James Toney.
Nautilus 12-16-2004, 11:07 AM Zero
.
Byrd can win because he can easily outbox him like RJJ did.

Where can I pre-pay for this card? I'd find a spot for Oliver McCall, too, maybe against Owen Beck!

I was joking.
But I would buy it, though. I buy 'em all, what the hell? At long as they stay in the same price range and not go up to 99.95 or something stupid...
If that happens, I'll have to make some boxing friends that live somewhere nearby so we can split costs.

If it was
1. Byrd-Ruiz
2. Rahman-Brestwer
I would definitely buy it.

f* off :D
The1God 12-16-2004, 11:21 AM I think it would be an ugly fight but one that should happen. We need to unify all these belts. Majority of the boxing fans and media think VK is the clear champ. I would like to see the top guys fight each other, it is the HW division, so anything can happen.
Byrd and Ruiz
VK and Rahman
Brester and Fields
all sound like boring fights, but it will help determine who is the top guy. This is only three that I can think of on 1 cup of coffee. add to my list please!
jabsRstiff 12-16-2004, 11:22 AM Nautilus.....
The woman in your avatar has a cool haircut & a swingin' stache.
Who is she again ?

That is a funny avatar, isn't it. This is supposed to be Fandorin, the toughest detective ever. This is an imaginary character and this "portrait" was done by the owner of th site
www.fandorin.ru devoted to this character.
I thought that it is funny that this portrait of Fandorin looks like a woman quite a bit.
Akunin, who created this character, is an extremely popular writer of detective stories in Russia. His first novel "Winter Queen" just got translated to English and is on slae here in the U.S. There is also going to be a movie made based on this novel I think by the same guy who produced Terminator (I may be wrong though).
Ruiz is the sloppy joe of boxing.

BDBowe 12-18-2004, 05:13 PM very slim. i definately wouldnt order it
BDBowe 12-18-2004, 05:13 PM one of the most boring fights that could be made
Tyson_Bit_Holyfields_Ear 12-18-2004, 08:05 PM Hopefully slim to none.
