It has been confirmed that Billy Irwin will challenge unbeaten WBA lightweight champion Juan Diaz. The bout will take place on January 21 at the Reliant Center in Houston, Texas. Irwin (42-5, 30 KOs) previously challenged Paul Spadafora for the IBF title in 2000, losing a unanimous decision. He has won eight straight bouts and is currently ranked WBA #10. Diaz (26-0), at 21 is boxing's youngest champion. He is making his second title defense. ESPN2 will televise.

He got a championship too soon. Corrales, Julio, and Castillo are gunning for him.

billy "the kid" irwin will be the baby bull's easiest defense yet. i'm canadian, so i've seen lots of billy's fights, he's great if he's in against a club fighter, he has big left hook but he doesn't throw near as many punches per rnd as diaz does. i really don't want to see the baby bull in against a big puncher like corrales yet because diaz's D isn't near good enough yet, he'll take some heavy shots from chico. castillo's gonna give him lots of problems too

this kid impresses me every time i see him, his style is kinda like vargas with the wide stance. this fight is nothing but a "keep busy" fight, however, i agree about corrales and castillio beating him but i'm not to sure the other diaz (julio) would be able to keep his young namesake off him.
