View Full Version : Harris: Cotto is no Tito!
borikua 12-15-2004, 12:48 PM "Puerto Rico has had some great fighters, but you're not up there with them and I'll prove it to you" was the chilling message sent to Miguel Cotto by WBA super lightweight champion "Vicious" Vivian Harris. "My favorite fighter is Tito Trinidad and when I heard people comparing Cotto to Trinidad it bothered me. Trinidad has real heart and takes on all comers, Cotto relinquished his number one spot rather than face me. Cotto doesn't have half the heart Tito has, if he did he'd have fought me when he had the chance. I will give him the chance to fight me. HBO I hope you're listening I want the big fights and I'll bring my belt to the table."

PRboxingfan 12-15-2004, 12:51 PM I don't know how many times Cotto has to say that he doesn't pick his competition and it is all left up to Top Rank. All he does is train and fight.
I think Cotto dismantles him just like he did to Pinto.

I couldnt care what Harris says anyway, i doubt the rest of the boxing world does either!!
He's a bull****er with no fans, which means a no money fight for Cotto! I dont think Cotto has anything to prove against Harris anyway, Harris hasnt exactly had a big fight yet!!
Cotto definitly has the ability to be as good as Tito, he's not at his level yet but he's only young.

Cotto just took apart the man who clearly "beat" Harris in Bailey, a guy Harris "never" rematched.

Baily never faught Harris
I like Cotto alot but he gets to much credit for beating bums. The only good win he had was against N'Dou and we still dont know how good he really is anyway. Since then he has faught garbage and people go crazy. What would any of the top guys at 140 do to Pinto, and Baily. Harris would be something different and I dont know if Cotto is ready for that
dansweeney 12-15-2004, 01:55 PM cotto is the real deal, he takes anyone at 140, maybe even tzsyu
kborges 12-15-2004, 01:57 PM IMO Cotto will KO Harris. Cotto has good defense, puts punches together well, patience & punching power. He will wear him down.

Are we talking sparring or a mistake with fighters? Because Olivera who got took apart by Hatton(on same night as Cotto vs Bailey) cleary beat Harris.
jack_the_rippuh 12-15-2004, 01:57 PM How many divisions do you think Cotto will end up moving up by the end of his career?
Who currently in the 140-147lb. division do you think has the perfect style to defeat Cotto?
BIGPOPPAPUMP 12-15-2004, 01:57 PM Baily never faught Harris
You know what, Its Ray Oliviera who Hatton just beat down. Still a guy Harris never wanted to rematch.

That is correct, I got this weekend's beatings confused for a moment.

I dont think Harris's style would be effective against Cotto, Harris is a good fighter but i think Cotto would break him down.

I dont think anyone has the perfect style to beat Cotto, i think a good pressure fighter may trouble him but i wouldnt like to bet against him.

So if I'm understanding correctly, you're saying Ricky Hatton can KO Miguel Cotto in 1?
yeah ... real subtle eleviel

Hey Rick, I'm surprised you made a mistake like that. I guess your human after all.
You know what, Its Ray Oliviera who Hatton just beat down. Still a guy Harris never wanted to rematch.
Harris didnt have to just like Zoo wouldnt prove anything by beating Phillips
I guess Im the only guy here who thinks Cotto gets to much credit for beating these has beens, and never was
liams_parka 12-15-2004, 02:27 PM i think hatton's style would present problems for cotto. his intensity wouldn't let him dominate the fight as much as he clearly loves to. who knows what would happen when cotto is thrown off guard, maybe he'll fold, maybe it will bring out a better miguel cotto.

Thats what i think, i think off the weekends performance i'd pick Hatton too win, but i think Cotto could step it up a lot more if required!! Which makes it tough fight to pick.
I guess Im the only guy here who thinks Cotto gets to much credit for beating these has beens, and never was
I think the opponents Cotto's facing are right for the moment, i think he should be eased into world class level.
I do think he gets too much credit for the recent wins but he has got some real talent, it will be interesting to see how he copes with a top 5 fighter.
elveiel 12-16-2004, 01:02 PM So if I'm understanding correctly, you're saying Ricky Hatton can KO Miguel Cotto in 1?
I didnt even mention Hatton, i was thinking Tszyu!! And i said that i wouldnt bet against Cotto, what would make you think i would consider a 1 round Cotto defeat??
Any fighter who covers up like Cotto has a slight weakness to pressure fighters, its far easier to unload heavy shots on them.
elveiel 12-16-2004, 01:08 PM yeah ... real subtle eleviel
You can always rely on you to make that sort of comment baya!!

did you honestly expect anything else?
bigdlb12 12-16-2004, 04:13 PM cotto is the real deal, he takes anyone at 140, maybe even tzsyutzsyu? R U 4 real?
Cotto still has a great way to go, if he were to face tzsyu, tzsyu would tear Cotto up. Cotto has the chance to become someone great, give him time. But yes I agree "Cotto is no Trinidad"
jack_the_rippuh 12-16-2004, 04:19 PM I think Cotto hits alot harder than people give him credit for, and I think Tszyu's chin is alot weaker than people want to mention, I think Cotto can stop 'em even though I don't give a rat's ass about either of 'em..
elveiel 12-16-2004, 04:38 PM did you honestly expect anything else?
No, its pretty funny you always want to give me a hard time, ****ing *******!! :)
