If you want you can go to the superdome. It would probably be your best bet. They are settin up a shelter there.

For years, forecasters have warned of the nightmare scenario a big storm could bring to New Orleans, a bowl of a city that's up to 10 feet below sea level in spots and dependent on a network of levees, canals and pumps to keep dry. It's built between the half-mile-wide Mississippi River and Lake Pontchartrain, half the size of the state of Rhode Island.
Estimates have been made of tens of thousands of deaths from flooding that could overrun the levees and turn New Orleans into a 30-foot-deep toxic lake filled with chemicals and petroleum from refineries, and waste from ruined septic systems.
AgonYx0 08-28-2005, 06:18 PM so did the storm hit yet?

Yeah to be honest I cant believe this hasn't happened before now. You need to check into finding a way out of there. Its the flooding that will get you. (as you probably already know)
a brick house should provide good protection from flying debris. Stay clear of the windows. (of course) but when the water starts rising you need to haul ass out of there.
RastaSmoker 08-28-2005, 06:24 PM so did the storm hit yet?
nope. It will make landfall at sunrise on monday
....I predict the worst natural disaster in the history of this country in cost and casualties. I hope it veers but you hate to wish the hurricane on somebody else. New Orleans just can't take something like this.

EXIGE 08-28-2005, 06:44 PM Ok SlipX be safe man. The next time your gonna get a chance to read this is after the storm has passed, and the internet connections have been set back up again. But yeah. Stay safe. Get into the nearest ****ing safe room or basement or anything like that. And stay away from the glass windows. In fact why am i saying this, hes not reading it. But if you are then just have common sense.
Good luck.
jack_the_rippuh 08-28-2005, 06:45 PM Hurricane Francis was almost as big as the state of Florida (if not bigger)..
Over here, though, it didn't rain very much.
There were alot of winds, but there wasn't alot of rain and t-storms, that was weird.

You do not go into a basement during a hurricane, you will drown if it flood's.

It's supposed to make landfall in New Orleans.
So it's moving in a Northwest direction?

...Jack, check out my satelite image a couple of posts back!!!
EXIGE 08-28-2005, 06:52 PM You do not go into a basement during a hurricane, you will drown if it flood's.
So he can be carried away by the 200mph wind instead and be up in the cyclone flying around with a load of cows and such then. OK i will stay in the normal part of the house. Plus it depends on how air tight your basement is as to whether you get flooded. And if water does start coming through, you get the **** out.
I would still recommend going into a basement.
badblood 08-28-2005, 06:54 PM New Orleans is below sea level, he would drown instantly if the levy's broke. :(

Im hoping for SlipX, that he dont get hurt, even though i dont know the guy.
jack_the_rippuh 08-28-2005, 06:55 PM ...Jack, check out my satelite image a couple of posts back!!!
Yeah. I looked at it.

Damn why the **** didnt he get the **** out of there with the rest of the mother****as!!!
Hey btw this is a category 5 gust? What is the worst?
RastaSmoker 08-28-2005, 06:55 PM ...Location location locationandrew hit Louisanna also last time.

...You are defintiely getting a Hurricane and a Tornado confused. Storm surge and flooding are unbelievable in a Hurricane and higher ground is where you wanna be. Think about the Tsunami and what would have happened to people under ground or in a basement.
EXIGE 08-28-2005, 06:56 PM Yeah. I looked at it.
I mean I can see the size from the pic, but I can't see the direction.
Jack how comes you aint gonna get mashed up aswell?
Your in florida right?
andrew hit Louisanna also last time.
....Yeah but not a direct hit on Nawlins like this. Not even close.

Nah i know the difference between a Hurricane and a Tornado, i took Geography A-Level. But surely being above ground in the middle of a Hurricane would make you pick up some pretty serious injuries right? And if he gets flooded he is gonna have to go outside right?
However i dont know much about New Orleans where he is so i dont know what could and would happen down there.
Dr.Depravity 08-28-2005, 07:00 PM ....Yeah but not a direct hit on Nawlins like this. Not even close.
This is N.O.'s greatest fear right now. The geography of the city is most vuneralble to flooding.
RastaSmoker 08-28-2005, 07:00 PM New Orleans is below sea level, he would drown instantly if the levy's broke. :(
It doesnt matter if they break. No house, without special reinforcement, has an airtight basement. It would leak through the earth itself. It would also go straight through the baseboards. Dont listen to him Slipx.
jack_the_rippuh 08-28-2005, 07:01 PM I've never ran from a storm.
I'm a man, I'm no *****.
You have to trust no man and fear no *****.
With that said, Category 6 is the worse and when the storm hit florida it was a category 1.

Not its not. Catagory 5 is the strongest.
RastaSmoker 08-28-2005, 07:05 PM Category
Definition-Effects
1 Winds : 74-95 mph (64-82 kt)
No real damage to building structures. Damage primarily to unanchored mobile homes, shrubbery, and trees. Also, some coastal flooding and minor pier damage.
2 Winds : 96-110 mph (83-95 kt)
Some roofing material, door, and window damage. Considerable damage to vegetation, mobile homes, etc. Flooding damages piers and small craft in unprotected moorings may break their moorings.
3 Winds : 111-130 mph (96-113 kt)
Some structural damage to small residences and utility buildings, with a minor amount of curtainwall failures. Mobile homes are destroyed. Flooding near the coast destroys smaller structures with larger structures damaged by floating debris. Terrain may be flooded well inland.
4 Winds : 131-155 mph (114-135 kt)
More extensive curtainwall failures with some complete roof structure failure on small residences. Major erosion of beach areas. Terrain may be flooded well inland.
5 Winds : 155+ mph (135+ kt)
Complete roof failure on many residences and industrial buildings. Some complete building failures with small utility buildings blown over or away. Flooding causes major damage to lower floors of all structures near the shoreline. Massive evacuation of residential areas may be required.
EXIGE 08-28-2005, 07:05 PM Damn i got ****ing jumped on for saying go into the basement!
Ok dont go into the basement. I just thought that would be a sensible idea. Especially if the flooding doesnt happen.
Dr.Depravity 08-28-2005, 07:07 PM Maybe somebody can answear this. I dont think homes in N.O. even have basements. It would be an exercise in futility to try and keep moisture out. I dunno, Maybe Im wrong.
jack_the_rippuh 08-28-2005, 07:08 PM Not its not. Catagory 5 is the strongest.
Oh for real.
I could've sworn there was a category six.

About 50 years ago, N.O. was hit with a hurricane. Most graves in N.O. are above ground, cause of the moisture problems. After it flooded, about 20,000 graves were knocked loose and floated all through the town.

...The weather chanel said it slid slighty to the East and thus kept the Western wall from having a direct hit. It also dropped down to 145 before impact. It was 175 at one point on Sunday. Still, parts of NO are gonna be under 30 feet of water. Maybe Slip was right about the Superdome. It's leaking and without power right now. Generators are on but they can't handle the AC.

Yeah it seems that Slip was wise not going there. If buildings are falling down in N.O why wouldnt the Stadium. And there are thousands of people taking shelter there so there potentially could be a massive crisis if anything happens to that building.

I'm sure this will get politicized somehow though, in the end (and I do realize that liberals are responsbile for a lot of this sort of thing).
One thing I do get sick of though, is the way that the news stations sensationalize this stuff. I recognize that they have to cover it but I swear sometimes they sound giddy whenever the conditions worsen. I'm not saying that anybody really wants death and destruction, but they turn it into such "event" television that it blurs the line between this and other event programming like the Superbowl or Oscars. I just think they need to cool it a bit.

I believe global warming is the cause of the world getting hotter as a whole, but possibly not the exact reason why ther ehave been more natural disasters especially over the past 2-3 years.
I think the Kyoto agreement (which wasnt signed by America) is the main thing which makes me think that Global Warming needs to be tackled by the main world leaders, and only them can change the damage which is being done to the earth.
I think that Global Warming is a real thing, because i have done numerous bits of research on it for my Geography A-level and have found that many geographers and people who study the climate (climatologists?) share the common knowledge that Global warming is a real danger and it is causing holes in the O-zone layer, especially around Australia, which as a result means that harmful sun rays are reaching the earth when they may not have done (in the same intesity) had the O-zone layer been present.

Seems like it's not decided either way but people seem to at least acknowledge that there's a good chance that there's a link.
It's hard to say sometimes though right because things that happen in your lifetime seem so much more important than they really are. So a couple of extra hurricanes could just be a blip on the radar in the grand scheme of things but because you focus on them so much it seems like a bigger deal.
badblood 08-29-2005, 02:51 PM BadBlood, you're so good no one can give you any more karma!! :)
It was because of your other avatar. :D
BLOODSHED 08-29-2005, 02:53 PM I dont think people know. Like our class of 300, the majority didn't know Bush rejected the Global Warming Theory.
You know what else Bush did? I have a native trout species that is endangered. He decided to put all trout species into one group, which meant our Arizona endangered trout is now off the endangered species lists since there are so many trout.

Bombardier 08-29-2005, 02:54 PM I'm surprised that as fight fans nobody has yet to bring up probably the most crucial question coming out of this disaster:
What's going to happen to Roy Jones' ****fighting roosters?
badblood 08-29-2005, 02:56 PM The people that live on the east side of new orleans are completely flooded, there are now over 1 million people without power and those who live in new orleans may go with out power for a month.
nance 08-29-2005, 02:56 PM It was because of your other avatar. :D
