View Full Version : Citizen Kane the best movie ever?
Ranger2408 12-13-2004, 10:05 PM I saw this the othr day on cable for the first time.
Awesome, every scene screamed out "Look at me" the amazing lighting, photography, script and man is it a masterpiece, even now it looks so ahead of it's time.
Orson welles was a Genius.
Dr.Depravity 12-13-2004, 11:01 PM An Excellent movie. The best of all time, I dunno. Its gotta be way up there though.
Explosivo 12-14-2004, 03:40 PM I dont think so. Like I have mentioned in other post, I am not in a dramatic cinema class. Citizen Kane was one of the movies we watched, but I found other movies we watched to be more enjoyable. Here are some classic's I have enjoyed more than Citizen Kane this year.
1. The Graduate - Dustin Hoffman was great
2. Mr. Smith goes to Washington
3. The Wild Bunch
4. Stagecoach - Early John Wayne
5. Virtigo
Im not too concerned with the artsy fartsy bull****, I just want to be entertained with a great story and good performances. We watched 2001: A Space Odysey a couple weeks ago, and I know some people think this movie is a great masterpeice for some reason, but I found it excruciating to sit trough and extremely boring. It all depends on your opinion I guess.
Sir_Jose 12-14-2004, 05:07 PM You can make a case for it being #1. Its no doubt top 5 all time
Xecutioner 12-14-2004, 05:32 PM my favorite movie of all time is "the searchers"

I found 2001 to be a pretentious snoozefest.
A case could be made for Citizen Kane; certainly there are some groups who have already called it the best movie of all time.
My choice would be Annie Hall (1977)

Annie Hall was outstanding, as were most of Woody Allen's films.
The Graduate is also excellent.
I agree Citizen Kane was top 10 if not top 5.
Another classic that has to be mentioned near the top of any list of great films is Casablanca.
My personal all time fav is The Godfather.
Boxerdog 12-14-2004, 11:11 PM I personally don't think Citizen Kane was all that entralling.
I also don't think that Annie Hall has aged that well. Agree with the guys that 2001 was over-rated.
I like The Godfather better than any of them. But there are many more I would pick ahead of them.

the godfather,part 1 is a good candidate...
stand and deliver was one good movie...
dead poets society was kewl...
field of dreams...
i like bravehard too...action packed
so was diehard, part 1
most recently...
passion of christ was outstanding...it's gonna be immortal...didn't get any nomination too...that sucked!
liams_parka 12-15-2004, 02:49 PM for me its really difficult to classify one film as THE greatest. certainly Kane was one of the most revolutionary, and pionereed many of the film-making techniques used in the industry today. on that basis it is clearly one of th emost seminal movies ever made
Well, here are some movies I liked more:
1. Clockwork Orange
2. Aguirre- Der Zorn Gottes (I don't know the English name. Sth. like Aguirre - The Wrath of God. It was a German film anyway. I just love Klaus Kinski.)
3. The 120 Days Of Sodom
4. Pulp Fiction
5. Woyczek
6. 2001 - A Space Odysee
7. Once upon a time in the West
8. Das Leben ist schön
9. Apocalypse Now
10. Irreversible
and these are just the first that came to my mind.

Winter 12-17-2004, 10:21 AM I have never seen the movie Citizen Kane. I like watching good movies. I will try and see it soon. I can't wait to see it.
Ranger2408 12-17-2004, 10:25 AM do it winter, do it or the toothpaste will cease to exist and the pearls with shine no more.
Chups 12-17-2004, 01:17 PM I will watch this Citizen Kane think...and I will give my thoughts.

Yeah, I always wondered why I like Beethoven more than 50 cent and Hesse more than Michael Moore. I have to be a real philistine by american standards.
Tyson_Bit_Holyfields_Ear 12-19-2004, 12:51 AM No. The Godfather is.
