Former world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis hinted he could come out of retirement and return to the ring.
Lewis, who retired after stopping Vitali Klitschko in June 2003, made his claim after watching the Ukrainian beat Britain's Danny Williams on Saturday.

"Watching it stirred something inside me," said Lewis.

"I am only nine months from being fully fight fit and seeing what happened to Danny made me want to step in. I really felt like jumping in the ring.

"I wanted to tap him on the shoulder and say 'Sit down, mate, let me take over and finish it for you. Let me show you how it is done'."

Lewis said a rise in the quality of his possible opponents could make him change his mind about quitting the sport.

"When I retired all the B-class fighters like Chris Byrd and Hasim Rahman suddenly became A-class," he added.

"Those two may be able to give Klitschko a decent contest. But what he really needs is someone tall and good. I wonder who that could be?"

I hope he does! Then I would be able to get excited about the heavy wt. division once again..that would be fantastic (hope he's not just playing with everyone!! :( )

So then he beats Vitaly and retires again. And that's good for the division how?

At least it shuts up some people about VK's second loss...

What, so Lennox is British again now that he might go back in the ring? Dude lives in Kitchener, Ontario. I guess he's only Canadian when he's not cashing in on his name.

NO way...not if Lennox came in at his normal weight! If he takes Vitali seriiously and doesnt come in 25 lb. over his normal weight then I just wouldnt count Lennox out..not at all

I think it would be best for his career to stay out of the game. Maybe promote, get the decent UK fighters out from under Frank Warren. He went out as a champ, barely. I have all the respect for Lewis, I believe he was a true champion. He doesn't need VK, VK needs him. Out of the top champions, VK is the only one that could beat Lewis. I really think he left at the right time and you cant say that about too many fighters these days. IE Holyfield.

I'd love for Lewis to come back and give us one more thriller. The VK-Lewis rematch would be one of the biggest fights in years.

Man, this quote is burning me up! Unbelievable arrogance, and what an annoying way to put it. I hope he does come back and Vitali knocks him flat.

My own biases aside, this fight would be H-U-G-E huge, so let's hope it happens. It would be nice to keep the linear title going a little while longer.

I would love to see him come back and get his ass handed to him by Klit.
If he won however, I would be sick! Don't think I could take much more of his stupid comments. If he ever became a color commentator, I would have to turn the sound off to watch.

You know, I hadnt thought of it that way. As much as I'd love to see him come back, he could do some of those British fighters a world of good. And getting them away from Warren would just be the beginning; with his name he could really promote their careers ;) So thats a good idea I think!

Arrogant? Perhaps, a little. But, he still has a long way to go to even match the likes of Jones, Hopkins, etc...in that department...a long damn way! And when they do it it's okay, why not him?

Lennox is smart enough to stay in retirement. There's really no point in coming back. He has his legacy and he doesn't want to risk it. He has already beaten Vitali and he has shown more than once that he was the superior HW of his time. It's a new era in the HW division right now. And if he was going to lose against Vitali (which I believe he would) he would be one more former Great who didn't know when to retire. He has enough money and respect for a lifetime and beyond. Hopefully he is as intelligent as he gets credit for.

I'm just annoyed that his British-ness comes out in spades whenever it will get him attention from the British media. He doesn't speak this way when he's talking to reporters over here (at least not in Canadian local papers). His accent sounds ridiculously phoney sometimes...he didn't sound that way when he was an amateur here, but suddenly when he became a pro he "developed" this accent.

Probably this isn't that big a deal...I'm not super-patriot Canadian or anything...just sort of irks me.

Ahhh, but he does have something that Jones and Hopkins will never have.... A gold Medal! Yes, Jones deserved it, but.......

He has solidified himself enough to be a Hall of Famer, I believe go done in glory not flames. Like my earlier post, I think Lewis could contribute alot more to boxing. It would be fun to see him as a ref. Throw him in there with a couple of Straweights!!!!

Lewis was born in London and says he is British. Good enough for me. I was born in London and I don't have a full ****ney accent because my parents are Scottish. Might not sound it but I'm still from London.

I've always thought he had a phony accent. But tracylee is right about how lots of other fighters are very arrogant, so the fact that Lewis is should come as no surprise. And the man can sure as hell fight.

If Vitali can become undisputed champ and King gets 30 mill apiece for a rematch, it wouild be hard for anyone to turn down.

I guess if RJJ can pretend he's a rapper, than Lennox can pretend he's a full-blooded Brit :D . Point taken.

i just dont buy that one anymore
i dont think he could have come in 25lbs light
him comin heaveir and heaveir into fights was becoming a trend of his
and even if he had come in lighter Vit woulda put him out earlier
lennox knows it
hes had his time
he is too old to be fighten Vit
he recognized it b4
he just seems to have forgotten
but he will rremember in round 1 if they fight again

really, i thought he was in pretty good shape for a guy who hasn't fought or trained since june 20 2003. I really wish he would take 3 months train, comeback and fight VK. I know all the VK fans whould love to see there fighter take on a 40 year old man, to prove he is the best. since he has already beat some greats like Danny Williams, 39 year old Sanders, 260lb K.Johnson. lost to both LL and Bryd.

Lewis is a fool if he comes back . . .he'd be 40 years. Stay retired and let the younger (or really not-so-old) guys clamor for the top spot . . .

I can see where he's coming from-after watchnig Vitali I would want to step back in the ring as well . . .

he outboxed (although not necessarily defeated) everyone he fought;

that's why he is the Ring Magazine champion ;

paper losses dont mean anything.
