View Full Version : Larry Merchant?
kbpoetree 08-21-2005, 09:34 AM Hey, just curious on what everyone thought about Larry Merchants comments after the Vargas fight last nigth. Not quite sure the exact words, but he totally doged the belt system and the media. Very surprising to hear coming from his mouth. Has B-Hop finally made his point in the boxing world?
Sliquestylez 08-21-2005, 01:24 PM Well Merchant felt that belts are becoming meaningless. It used to validate a boxer's career but he felt with there are so many alphabets out there that sometimes it's hard to know who's the chump or not. Look at British chump as well as the ***** slapper German champ like Ottke. Everybody stays in their backyard in their comfort zone to keep the belt and milk whatever they can get.

What? larry Merchant is a mean and disgracefull analyst, his comments can be very biased and offensive to fighters and fans.
BLOODSHED 08-21-2005, 03:29 PM Exactly. He's very disgraceful and rude a lot of times to fighters.

I know, but I think Larry Merchant is a funny dude and does a good job.
BLOODSHED 08-21-2005, 03:48 PM He looks pretty damn good when put next to Jim Gray if you ask me.
My fav announcer is Al Bernstein. Doesnt sugar coat **** and knows his boxing. Max would be here too but he gets annoying really quickly.

Anyone else find this to be ****in absurd.
Memorex 08-21-2005, 10:13 PM there should be 1 single f'n belt for each weight class. im tired of all those damn belts
Manny_P 08-21-2005, 10:16 PM It's true. Those belts suck. Fans should care bout fights and fightas. Morales and Pac don't got any belts right now, but many expertz got em on their P4P lists. Regardless of belts or not, their PPV will sell. I don't even know (or shizzle) wut belts Ricky Hatton possess, but I know he's ta best at 140lbs right now. I know Tarver is ta best at light heavy witout sportin any goshdarn belts. LOL.
Michael Jordan is ta best and he aint got no belts.
Point is, **** em.
Khalife 08-21-2005, 10:38 PM i sure there is a lot of people out there thoughing Roy jones jr in his next upcoming fight with Antonio tarver. Everyone but roy and i, i followed roy carrer all the way through until his last fight with glenn johnson. i know that roy jones is coming back stronger and faster like he use to. everything went wrong for him after he drop 25 pounds of muscle, he went back down like a weak middle weight, fighting at lightheavy. He gave his body no chance to rest, he just wanted to please his fans, well i alway will be a true fan, and all the thoughers will see and realize that roy now gave himself some time and his body should be back to it original self, and if he back, tarver, johnson, and anyone else that step in his path with be destroy. i pray for this fight, the trilogy with antonio tarver, and i will love for jones to settle the score once in for all. If rj want to win this fight than you with see if happen, it just that simple. tarver is good, but he will never be as good as rj. please anyone reply if you disagree or agree

Absolutly agree with you. One belt to decide who's really the champ in that weight class.
