View Full Version : Vargas' maturity

I think tonight was a big night in seeing how Vargas has matured as a man...not necessarily JUST with how he is fighting, but his views...

You guys remember he bombared DLH saying that he throws pitty pat punches and just runs away...

yet he now realizes that a boxer has a longer boxing lifespan if he boxes and conserves for the bigger fights...

You guys remember when he never gave DLH and respect...

now he talks about how DLH is a great champion, etc...etc...

And you also saw tonight how he said he was not concerned about the crowd and went in there to fight the fight he has trained for...

He is really maturing (or has already matured)...

Only problem I will always have with Vargas, is that he will always look shakey to me...no matter if his opponent is a big puncher or not...he will always look so vulnerable in that ring...

either way, another good win...vs a tough opponent...as expected...

He matured and lost his agression at the same time.

Vargas stalled because he didint want to disrespect his corner's orders to move and box. Or else Castillejo would have been out of there in five rounds.

Runwithknives, you must admit the Old Vargas would have KOd this bum. Like I said before Castillejo is ass and Vargas would get a decision. Didnt I say that?

Yes. The old Vargas would have K.O.'d Castillejo. The only difference is, he is ten times smarter as a fighter. And Castillejo is not exactly feather fisted with 40 K.O.'s to his credit. He had to fight the smart fight because it was in his gameplan. You can tell he wanted to unload on him, but his corner was screaming at him to box.

Even still what's wrong with wanting to be healthy and around for a while nothing wrong with wanting to not be wreckless.

yeah, especially a guy who knows he is a star, knows his chin is no Tua, knows he is expected to win to lead to big fights, knows he has a tough opponent, and knows of his back problems...I doubt he wanted to risk a whole lot on a fight that didn't require it...

Vargas has turn into a boring fighter. Just imagine a fight with Winky.

Vargas became a clinical boring technical fighter. I was expecting some hard exchanging blows but Vargas seems to be more content on following his game plan.

Winky would whipe the floor with Vargas. I REFUSE to like someone as good technically but as ***** as Winky. I wish he would open up just a LITLE BIT make his fights a little more exciting and to see if he even has power.

God, just shut up. Stop blaiming the trainers... Vargas gave himself an "F". He got his jaw broken, its over. He better not get the DLH fight.

Exactly, I hate Winky. That whole clamming up isnt good defense to me.

Vargas would beat Wright in a rematch at 154.

He's a real ***** if you ask me. That clamming up against the ropes. Comparing him to Mayweather isnt fair as Mayweather is looking to throw back. That Winky just goes on the defense and stays there.

Yeah it's so hard to watch him fight. He just clams up, Jab's when the guy comes in and throw's the occasional left. I'd love to see him fight a natural middleweight who is a good body puncher, then we'll see what He can do. I also think its funny how hes a natural righty, and he jabs with his right...funny **** man.

He beat him once, and can do it again in a different manner. This time outboxing the southpaw and pick and chosing power shots like he did earlier tonight.

I want to see him get knocked the **** out. Not just beaten but knocked the **** out. Trying to demand 50/50 with Mayweather. Is he ****ing nuts?

You've fallen head over heels for Vargas. I like Vargas and I hate Winky with a passion, but Winky crushed Tito unlike Vargas that gave a valiant effort but lost the fight.

Winky and Vargas' handling of Tito says a lot. I didnt see Winky-Vargas but a lot of people say Winky won.

IMO It's a lose-lose situation for Winky. If he wins he "beat up a little guy", if he loses he "lost to a little guy". should maybe even be 45/55.

I agree. In further news, Vargas get his jaw broken by a 37-year-old Spanish Man. Hilarity ensues.

If Vargas wants to extend his career, he needs some of the lessons that Danny Smith is teaching him. The problem is, Danny Smith is completely defensively minded. If he keeps Smith as his Chief Trainer, instead of Second where he belongs, Vargas isn't going to get any big paydays because he's boring as ****.

What's the point of extendng your career when you won't be able to put asses in seats? He needs to bank the defensive lessons and mix in enough of El Feroz to make it exciting.

You have to cut him a little slack, though. I can understand after the beatings he took at the hands of Trinidad and DLH that he might be a little gunshy, but he better step up in his next fight or his big money dreams will remain dreams.

I am afraid we won't see the Vargas of the old days anymore. He lost his agressions since his defeats and now with a new defensive trainer, we can forget to see brawls and blood. He will win his fights by UD.

Very true, but I think we'll start to see more offense the more the rust wears off. He had way more offense in this fight than against Joval & I believe he could have stopped Castillejo pretty easily but his corner didn't want him to. He did get in 10 quality rounds of boxin & that will help shake off the rust.
