View Full Version : Question.
Dr Cynical 09-29-2004, 05:30 AM This has been bugging me all day.
Someone mentioned a fight (maybe a mega or super fight because it got alot of press and coverage) that took place in the 1980s and ended in a first round KO.
Does anyone what fight this is?
lol If it helps any, which this probably won't since it seems so stupid, both fighters were black.
Dark Destroyer 09-29-2004, 05:34 AM Mike Tyson Vs Michael Spinks?
Dr Cynical 09-29-2004, 05:36 AM Mike Tyson Vs Michael Spinks?
Was that the only big fight of the 80s that ended in first round KO?
Dark Destroyer 09-29-2004, 05:38 AM Was that the only big fight of the 80s that ended in first round KO?
I'm not sure but i know that was a big fight because most people thought Spinks stood a good chance of beating him.
Dark Destroyer 09-29-2004, 05:49 AM There was Thomas Hearns Vs Roberto Duran but that ended in round 2. That was a megafight and a big shock of the 80's.

Yeah the fight I'm talking about involved two black guys and it ended in first round KO.
It may be the tyson fight you mentioned, but for some reason I'm not sure that it is that fight.

I have no idea at all. The 80's was the time period where Mike Tyson was shocking the world alot but we also had Sugar Ray Leonard, Thomas Hearns, Marvin Hagler and many others.
Winter 09-29-2004, 05:58 AM Hello Wez. Did you do any boxing sparring yesterday? If you did, how did you do? I really hope you did well.

Yeah but I don't think Leonard or Hagler or Hearns ever pulled off a first round KO.
So it probably is that Tyson match.

:) Hello Winter my sparring session is tonight, when i get home from work i will be going straight to the gym. I'm a little nervous but i should be fine, i'm sparring another fellow Middleweight. I've never had many problems with people my own weight so i hope this won't be a difference. I'll be sure to create a thread about how i did.

Good to hear.
Thanks, I thought it wouldn't be seen so well because of how bright it is.
I may change it again sometime.

Spar a super heavyweight! :p
Have you ever sparred with a welterweight?
Dark Destroyer 09-29-2004, 06:38 AM Spar a super heavyweight! :p
Have you ever sparred with a welterweight?
:) I'm leaving the Heavyweights alone. Yeah i have sparred with a welterweight before, it's quite fun because the intensity of the sessions increase with lighter faster guys. They keep me on my toes alot more than heavier opponents. I'm sparring for 8 rounds tonight, each round is 3 mins. Thats the way i like to spar, nice and intensive.

Do you think you could go down to welter?
How do you think you would fare at that weight?
Also, if you did go to that weight, would you fight a heavyweight again?
Just for my amusement?http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v107/DrCynical/emoticons/icon_blaugh.gif
Dr Cynical 09-29-2004, 06:42 AM Hey Winter, because it wouldn't let me give you karma again, I decided to just donate some points.
Enjoy.

Good luck Wez. I know you will do well. I think it is neat you are a real boxer. If I was near you, I would ask for your autograph. I think being a little nervous is probably a good thing. I think it means you really care about boxing. Wez, you said you are a middleweight. I don't know what that means exactly. How does that look? Which boxers are middleweights? I just started watching boxing, and I am trying to learn.

Bernard Hopkins and Felix Sturm are middleweights.
It's just another weight class, like heavyweight.

Yeah I noticed it gives good karma when you donate, but I'm still so low in karma due to my failed attempts at "thief!".
I'm looking for more pictures to use as my avatar.

I don't think my body could handle going down to Welterweight, i am a natural Middleweight so i wouldn't consider moving down. I don't know how i'd go on at Welterweight if i could move down, the sparring sessions i have had against Welterweights have been intensive and competitive. I've been outboxed before so i'm not sure. At Middleweight is where i hold most potential, i haven't been beaten at that weight and i hold my power and speed pretty well.
As for the Heavyweight question i'm not doing that in a hurry, it's easy when your a fighter to think your alot better than you actually are. Now i am going to start been more realistic.

:D Thanks, i am the same weight as Bernard Hopkins. I've always naturally been that weight and can hold it well. I excercise alot to keep myself there. I do care for the sport alot, thats why not only am i a huge fan of it and like to talk it but i also like to partake in it myself. It's fun.

Hmm.. Yeah, stick at middleweight.
Seems like a better choice since you'd be outboxed and couldn't keep up with the speed of those fighters.
lol I'm just messing with you about the heavyweight thing.
Although it would be great if you did meet with him again and beat him.

All three pictures are of the same person.
The character is "Angel" from the x-men comics.
The one you said was scary is when he was "Archangel".
I think I have some more angel pictures, I'll go look.

The only big/super fight of the 80's that ended in the first rd. was Tyson-Spinks.

Really?
There were no others?
Damn..
I asked the guy if one of the fighters was Tyson he said "I don't know or remember".
Which is why I first thought it wasn't a Tyson match, even though it sounds so much like a Tyson match.
jabsRstiff 09-29-2004, 08:34 AM Think of the big name fighters of the day, back then.
Hearns, Hagler, Leonard, Holmes, Duran, Tyson, Pryor, Arguello...
In all of the fights amongst them....only Tyson scored a 1 rd. KO, in a big fight. Over Spinks.
