The accident was very serious and caused several injuries to the young fighter. Cotto said, “It was a very serious accident. I broke my arm and shoulder in four different places. I think being in the shape I am in really helped.” Cotto bears a scar on his right shoulder and a six-inch titanium rod in his right arm as a result of the accident. Miguel, however, found a positive side to the accident; he said, “This kind of helped me. It made me think more about my family and be more focused on my career, because I almost didn’t have one.” mic573 12-12-2004, 07:03 PM I was told that Cotto had a car accident before or just a little after he turned pro where he injured his right hand. I think he had some screws put into his hand to help the healing. Also, did you ever notice the scar he has on his right shoulder? Yes, Cotto has worked hard on his right hand and now it's paying off. I was one of those who hopped he could better his right but now he is the complete package. mic573 12-12-2004, 07:04 PM On August 18, 2000 – while driving to a 5:30 A.M. workout, Cotto fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a concrete wall.
