There both as tough as each other but I'd say Hagler has the better offensive skills so he wins UD.

It'd be a very good fight with both guys on top of their games. Hagler with the excellent right jab, great countering, determination and chin. Toney with his excellent countering, chin, natural abilities. Both guys are great on the inside and you know that Marvin wouldn't run away or sit outside on James. I say that it'd be a back and forth tactical brawl/battle with both guys eating huge shots and coming through them. Hagler's heart would shine through in the late late rounds and he'd take a close decision over James. This would certainly have to go 15 rounds because both guys were that kind of fighter. This is one of my dream fights.

Hagler would knock Toney out in the late rounds. But man what a fight it would be. I had never thought of them getting together til I read this and I had to think about it but I just hink Hagler was a little better boxer.

Toney at 160 rarely put in a whole round's worth of work. He was always struggling to make 160, perhaps that's why he fought in spurts.

Hagler's better, more consistent offense would be the difference.
I don't see this being a thrilling fight, though it would be a very interesting, well-fought one.

I see Hagler winning by UD after a hardfought battle. A great match-up!

damn Jabs..you are always right on the money. Toney had trouble making 160, He was always getting tired and taking rounds off. He was very strong at 168.

I see Hagler winning a unanimous decision in this one

I don't see anyone winning this fight by KO. Hagler was the better fighter so i think he would win by decision

I'd go with a decision for hagler, toney struggled to much to make 160 and really got better as he moved up in wait due to gaining more experience.

Neither guy would be able to KO each other that is sure thing. Hagler would win alot of the early rounds with his sheer brutalic agression. Later in the fight in a 15 round bout Hagler would tire abit, Toney would start to land big counters and take alot of rounds that way. Probably Hagler would win out a UD because his stamina was great and he has overall more tools than Toney. Hagler would win the fight for being the more agressive fighter basically.

I can tell you never saw a prime hagler going the distance, or you were looking the other way when you did

Toneys defence will keep him the fight and his counters will give him the edge in a few rounds but I don't see it being enough to stop Hagler from outboxing Toney or just maul over him, a tendency Hagler had in the later stages of his career.

I dont think that Toney would stand a chance at all against Hagler. Hagler was shredded, he was quick and a hard puncher regardless to what anyone says, he could brawl and get hit. Toney was always big boned, he was never in great shape but his two qualities was getting hit and hitting hard back. KO Hagler in the later rounds.

I really don't understand the people saying toney would be KOed, he has never being knocked down, except when clowning with rj, why would he be stopped at 160?

thats what i was about to say. toney was down against johnson but it was a balance thing if i recall correctly. there would be 0 kd's in this fight and it'd certainly be close for the majority of it. this is assuming that toney is on his game.

Toney would be over whelmed when Hagler came in and fought him Hagler was too fast, too powerful, and was just overall better just look at his record and who he had to fight to get that record. He fought some unbelivably tough opponents and KO'd most of them he only had 10 more wins that werent KO's thats gotta say something. Toney would die out in the later rounds and it would be too much for him and he would lose by KO.

James Toney has been in the ring with all-time greats and HOF fighters, and has taken some beatings from them and never went down. He has one of the best chins the sport has ever seen and some of the best natural ability/technical skills the sport has ever seen. Hagler was the man and was a very skilled boxer, but theres no way that Toneys getting KO'd or knocked around in a 1-sided fight.

Never STAYED down. I think he was down rather humorously against Roy, if I'm not mistaken. There's a few more, too. We all marvel at some of the stuff Toney does defensively ... lots of those Philly guys and tough ass New York guys were similar in that respect back then.

Marvin would win but so would we if we could have seen this fight.

yes but it was a bs knockdown, just like hagler's only knockdown.

as for the defense, yes they had a similar defensive style, but they (monroe, briscoe...) were stopped by other 160 fighters, not just by hagler (and briscoe was not stopped by hagler)

said that, I think hagler gets a UD

Yeah I meant went down as in down for the count like knocked out. I was reading that Hagler was going to KO Toney and thats why I said that, I just phrased it incorrectly. He was down against Reggie Johnson too.

It would certainly be a hell of a fight.

Toney's chin is good but it's not even one of the top twenty chins the sport has seen. Maybe one of the best chins in the last ten years, I'll give you that.

Toney by ko 2.
hagler i guy that has one of the greatest chin in history will get Ko'd in too, buy not the hardest punching toney. man go home please. i mean i'm a tyson fan, but i will not say tyson will KO ali in two. because i know ali got a great chin and that would never happen. same situation with hagler vs toney.
