View Full Version : Williams' corner: WORST in HISTORY!
SacTown1 12-12-2004, 01:34 PM Was I the only one who noticed how awful Danny Williams' cornermen were last night? 3 voices at once, between every single round, and none of those voices contained any meaningful dialogue. That looked like a lousy little league coaching staff, not one that should be assembled for a heavyweight championship fight. Sterling McPherson is known worldwide as the most useless trainer in the business, and he proved it again last night as he was hollering pointless instructions into Danny's ear between every round. Horrible teamwork by "Team Williams." They deserved to get humiliated.
!! Anorak 12-12-2004, 01:35 PM Who is Sterling McPherson? I've never seen that guy with Danny before in my life. His trainer was speaking instructions to him but Danny couldn't hear him. I particularly hated McPherson's "Your children are watching this." Danny's not the sort of fighter you "pump up", it achieves the opposite effect.
yeah, awful instructions, they were obviously motivating him, and it may have worked, but they should have been teeling him to get in close, head down and throw some body shots.
anorak, disregard that pm i sent. props on honouring the bet
!! Anorak 12-12-2004, 01:43 PM As I say, that was the only good thing to come out of this... I got to prove I was honest. Poor old Danny.
elveiel 12-12-2004, 01:56 PM I dont blame the corner, i agree they were very poor but Williams wouldnt have taken any advice regardless of how good it was.
Williams was a zombie and i'm suprised he knew when to start a new round!!

i agree the team is pretty horrible. the biggest mistake however was them not preparing williams properly for the fight by letting him come in at 270lb- you can see that he had movement problems carrying all that weight-which unfortunately for williams helped cost him the fight.

....I brought up this very thing in an earlier thread and I think you guys are absolutely right!!!
loangunZ 12-12-2004, 02:33 PM why whould you let your children watch you become a bloody mess
It didn't matter, Williams didn't have an effective gameplan against Klitschko anyway.
Nautilus 12-12-2004, 02:37 PM I am sure Danny's corner knows danny far better than any of you, guys.
I have noticed that 90% of the talking was done by only one guy.
SacTown1 12-12-2004, 03:11 PM the gameplan was non-existent
Kid Achilles 12-12-2004, 03:39 PM I think the worst was the "Don't quit Danny!!!! Oh my God, don't quit!!!" like what the hell kind of thing is that to say to keep a fighter's confidence up??
Awful stuff.
trinidadpr87 12-12-2004, 03:40 PM the gameplan was non-existent
they took a page from corrie sanders gameplan.
jayschre 12-12-2004, 04:23 PM definately a bad corner, but not the worst that title still belongs to Tyson's homies in Tokyo! I was almost wondering if that black guy in Danny's corner was under the impression that yelling at his eye would stop the swelling, cause he sure as hell wasn't using that enswell enough!
I'll bet nothing said would have helped..
that is if what I think happened happened...
i'll bet VK's corner told him that DW personally poisoned Yushchenko.
LOL
:D
QueenCity 12-12-2004, 04:45 PM Their best motivational tactic was telling him "your kids are watching this!"
which makes him sad knowing they see his bloodied face ...
:(
neils7147933 12-12-2004, 04:50 PM "worst in history"
like to overgeneralize, do we?
jack_the_rippuh 12-12-2004, 04:50 PM It is pretty sad, but atleast he won't have to worry about his corner anymore, especially since he's retiring..
i saw that he said that, but there hasn't been any more news about it since...
????
neils7147933 12-12-2004, 04:57 PM His strong religious convictions won't allow him to continue boxing.
Of course, he converted pre-Tyson and he's gone ahead and "compromised his morals" for 2 PPV checks...
I remember seeing the reasons, but haven't heard any follow ups.
I suppose he had to fulfill his obligations.
Like i've said before, I'm glad VK won.. imagine if DW won, then retired.. that wouldn't help the status of the hw division :)
neils7147933 12-12-2004, 05:00 PM Maybe it would have. Let's say Rahman wins the vacant belt, then Don King has all 4 and it's no big deal to unify the belts because he's the only promoter with a HW belt...
Thank God for K2 promotions!!
:)
