Let's be honest, Danny hadn't earnt a shot at the title so soon just from the Tyson win and should have - at the very least - been sent after the lesser titlists first.

I don't know what would happen if he met the tricksy Byrd or the hugging Ruiz, but - although you shouldn't compare form in this sport - he KOed Brewster opponent Kali Meehan in 32 seconds when they met a few years back.

If Danny was in with Meehan I'd give Danny a 90% chance of victory.

But what happened tonight? I didn't even recognise Danny Williams. In hindsight, yes, he did appear too heavy. Yet everything went wrong. I expect cries of "bum" now because all his skills - movement, speed, head movement, ring smarts - abandoned him. To be honest, I think his confidence abandoned him and he retreated into himself within the first round when the realisation of it all set in.

I wanted to know tonight that even if Danny lost, could he still compete in world class competition - albeit to a lesser degree than Vitali? I still don't know the answer to that, and I wished he'd done more.

But one thing that Danny did show was heart... so do you respect him more or less after tonight's one-sided bout?

I give him respect. He did all he could do. Like I said and I was right, he came in too heavy-thats where he fuked up. But yeah I give him respect.

The size differential just seemed too great, though Danny's handspeed was notably slower than usual... his balance was awful too, though Lewis's equilibrium was shot against Vitali... maybe he just does hit that hard and often?

I just wished it had been a competitive match, Vitali seemed to be toying with him at times.

He showed great heart and held out hope as long as he could. Takes a hell of a beating!

It's the end of a fairytale for Danny fans... if he'd won this it would've been the script you couldn't write. Sadly it's all come to an end.

I take nothing from Vitali, though, and knew in my mind he would probably do it - he's not only freakishly large but is a hell of a lot better than his rep.

hey danny did all he could do, nothing wrong with that. if he didnt come in looking like a tub of animal lard he would have had a better chance. oh well..hindsight is always 20/20.

I'm giving him more respect for his fighting heart. ;) He was beaten by a better fighter fair and square and there's no shame in that.

Another question is: DO YOU RESPECT TYSON LESS after the Williams-Klischko fight.

I give Danny more respect after this fight. I didn't think he could make it into the latter rounds. Good job buddy. He did better than Johnson, sanders and alot of other vitali opposition.
He deserves a pat on the back for his outstanding effort.

Its exactly how i thought it be. Williams had guts but skill wise he just wasn`t good enough to beat the big Klit. As for the Tyson fight. Williams won that fight clean and square. It shows you that Klit would seriously hurt Tyson. Tyson is shot to pieces and shouldn`t even be spoken of in the same sentences as the contenders.

I think Danny should have had a few good warm ups before getting in with Klitschko

Tyson is shot. He needs to write a book on his life story.

I have respect for The Tyson of the 80's and nothing or nobody can take that away from me. In the ring I mean, not outside of the ring. He needs to hang up the gloves IMO now. So does Holyfield. They had their day in the sunshine.
I don't look down on Holyfield for losing to donald, like I don't look down on mike for losing to Danny. Holy needs to retire in my opinion. We know the guy has an incredible amount of heart. It's like what more does he want to prove.
I've made my point I think. Do you guys agree?

I have upmost respect for every fighter out there. Been a spectator and getting in the ring are two completely different things. It takes real courage to fight on even when you know your losing and taking a beating. Obviously i am upset Danny lost very much but it's good to hear fellow fans are respectful enough to appreciate his efforts and not just call him a bum.

i always have had a massive respect for danny and last night just enhanced it.
people were saying he was a bum and he would get ko'd in 2 but i knew that just would'nt happen(altough i was worried after the first).
he was outclassed by a better fighter on the night and didn't make any excuses.
but he gave everything he had just to hang in there,
respect to vitali too he showed a very calm head tonight and done a great job of dictating the fight.

I lost all respect I had for Tyson after the second Holyfield fight so he had none to lose when he fought Williams.

You really have a thing for Tyson don't you? :)

The way Williams kept getting up after constant blows by Vitali earns him some of my respect. He had the heart to continue the fight, if the ref wouldn't have stopped the fight. Took some heart, I give him more respect.

I think youre all forgetting that Tyson blew out his knee against Williams, therefore we did not see a true evaluation of the new Iron Mike Tyson trained by the boxing guru Freddie Roach. If Tyson loses one more time then yes we can say FOR A FACT he should hang it up. Right now however I'm going to give Mike the benefit of the doubt. Peace.

I have more respect for Danny. He showed plenty of heart and wouldn't quit. He just had no answers for Klits.

JS-he didn't 'blow out' his knee . . .people who blow out their knees aren't able to box another 3 rounds, walk fine afterwards, and 2 months later be jumping on the hoods of cars . . . Tyson is big $ you're really going to believe everything Shelly Finkel says?

I do think that knee injury affected him but i dont think that it affected him as much as people say. Tyson imho is a shot fighter. In last ten years he lost every big fight :( What gives people confidence to say he is gonna beat Big V.

P.S Dempsey, as one of the biggets Klitschko doubters do you think that he improved since his lost to Lewis?

I didn't see the fight(too bad I missed a great one) but from what I've read and seen(pictures on bbcnews.com) Danny Williams fought a hard fight and got up from the canvas everytime he was knocked down. That's the type of fighter you want to see in boxing, a fighter who will withstand alot of punishment and come back for more. It would have been easy for him to stay down for the count and collect his paycheck. For that reason I have alot of respect for him now. Remember when Tyson was knocked out by him, he just lied there on the canvas. He could've got up but didn't. We need more heavyweights in the division with a D.Williams mentality.

Less.

He had Mentally quit in the fight. It was like Tua getting jabbed to death By lennox.

I give him the respect of showing up, but it takes more than just showing up to show u got heart. It takes determination and danny didnt have it last night.

I liked the way RJJ said that Kali Meehan is no worse than Danny Williams. Too bad Danny KO'd Meehan in 32 seconds of the first round when they fought.

i repect him for his honesty and heart, hes always been humble so i aint that suprised. he took a real beating from vitali but continued to get up, even though he knew deep down he had no chance of winning. a lesser fighter would have stayed down, like kirk johnson but boy that ring had blood all over it. the fights on the day were pretty gory.

you could make a ruiz fight interesting if you mix in some other interesting elements from other sporting events..

the basketball cup of ice fight (maybe throw a bottle at ruiz?)

nancy kerigan shin bashing (have someone bash ruiz when in his corner)

something to that effect.
