Miguel Cotto won impresively again. His next fight should be a bigger named fighter. Who do you think should be his next.

I'm still rooting for a Hatton fight although we very well know that Hatton wants Kotza Tyzsu.

I tend to agree! I think Tszyu is awaiting the winner of Spinks-Judah so he can come up and challenge. A Cotto-Hatton-Harris ( in any combination) fight would be great, but is Hatton willing to leave the UK for either. I think not!

Hatton has never appeared on HBO. Anyone know if he's still tied to Showtime? Harris was there at the Tszyu fight and entered the ring...if he was an HBO fighter, that would not have been allowed.

I think Cotto fights 3-4 more "safe" opponent in ascending toughness in 2005. His handlers have been very, very smart bringing him along. You don't go from Randall Bailey to Ricky Hatton, let alone Kostya Tszyu.

Possible opponents for 2005: Francisco Bojado, Gianluca Branco, Mike Stewart, Ishe Smith - all decent opponents. Michael Arnaoutis could break out and be ranked by the end of the year, too, and would make a good opponent. 2006 he should look to the cream of the crop of the division, though I can see Tszyu and/or Gatti absent from the division, then. Cotto-Mayweather in 2006 would be a great fight.

He is WBO champ, though, here's the most recent rankings I could find (11/14) - he may have to fight a mandatory... (Hatton relinquished his ranking)

. Ricky Hatton
2. David Diaz
3. Henry Bruseles
4. Junior Witter
5. Andrea Kotelnik
6. Mohammad Abdulaev
7. Paul Spadafora
8. Gianluca Branco
9. Ricardo Torres
10. Kelson Pinto
11. James Leija
12. Demarcus Corley
13. Naoufel Ben Radah
14. Juan Urango
15. Mike Arnaoutis

...cont'd

This is assuming Cotto can stay at 140 the whole time. The way they talked last night he was destined for welterweight. That's where Ishe Smith is right now. They could fight where someone's '0' had to go for a shot at a Spinks, Judah, Margarito, etc.

It has to be Harris. Why would you want to put two young fighters who havent faught a big name in with eachother. Let them each fight someone else and then if they win a fight or two then they can fight eachother. The fight would be much bigger then.

First of all, Ishe is a prospect and they won't put him in with Cotto just yet. The fights being talked about are Chop-Chop and Hatton (Frank Warren had a meeting with Bob Arum Saturday morning to discuss it). I hope it's Chop-Chop because I think Cotto needs the experience against a southpaw but I won't be mad if it's Ricky. Actually, I'd love to see Sharmba but I doubt it.

I believe Hatton is on a fight by fight basis with Showtime. He does have a contract with Sky (European) but I don't think that would negate a contract with HBO.

A fight with Chop Chop would be a good fight for him but a lot of people will critcize him for it. I'd say go for Hatton which would be a good tough fight for him. Then go for Harris or Mitchell.

I'd like to see Cotto vs Mitchell.

I confident Cotto would win, i have never liked Mitchell but my opinion is based on more than my dislike for him.

I think Cotto is too skilled and punches too hard for Mitchell.

it may be too early in his developmemt for him to fight a top 5, however id like to see him fight stewart, or olivera, to see how he compares to hatton

Well it looks like the best candidates for Cotto's next fight would be Hatton, Harris or Mitchel

Since it looks like Hatton & Tszyu will be fighting in Spring of '05 I think Cotto should fight Harris or Gatti. I prefer Harris over Gatti.

KZ and Hatton have not agreed to terms and I doubt they will meet because Hatton wants to fight in England and not in Australia (the two big venues for the fight). Meanwhile, Cotto can fight Hatton in NY where he can fill MSG with no problem. Hell, they can throw Harris on the undercard and make it a tourney. It's easier to make a Hatton - KZ fight because of the Showtime contracts but there have been internetwork PPV cards before, I don't see why they can't do it again.

Also, Gatti is fighting Leija in Jan and then Mayweather afterwards so count him out. That's why I see Chop-Chop, Hatton, or even Mitchell as most probable.

The fight with hatton would be good i would pick cotto for the victor. He's just so polished, but theres a ***** in his armour somewhere.

I'm guessing he fights chop chop next then after he ko's chop he will be looking at a top 5 opponent as a follow up.I can't wait till a Cotto vs. Hatton fight can be made the body shots alone make it an interesting match-up, I'd pick Cotto by mid to late rd. tko, I just see him being well on his way to greatness.

At this stage, I don't think that either Hatton or Kostya, want anything to do with Cotto.
The man is a career wrecker!
At 140, there is nobody who can beat him. He is power personified.
Sheer poetry in motion!

Chop chop. Harris and Hatton are eyeing big paydays with Tszyu. I don't think they'll be available. ;) I suspect that Chop chop would ask for some time to think about it, too.

Mohammad Abdulaev...he beat Cotto in the 2000 Olympics. But many ppl that saw the fight say that Cotto was robbed.

harris wants cotto thats why he was at the fight.zoo wont give chop chop a shot.I agree Kostya won't give Cho chop the time of day; but that doesn't mean Chopchop can't hope. An offer for him to take on Cotto, is something he'd think about hard and long, that's all I'm saying.

As for Harris coming in to the fight wanting Cotto, oh well, fighters have done similar things before...

If Harris gets a crack at Tszyu, and is offered Cotto, which do you think he'll take? ;)

Paulie won't fight Cotto for two reasons:

1. He is a prospect who isn't looking to put his unbeaten record at risk, and
2. His chin and his hands can't take the punishment.

Look for Chop-Chop to be the first choice followed by Harris.

watched my first cotto fight on saturday and was hugely impressed. as a hatton fan i'd love to see them to square up next, but think the Tszyu fight is more likely.

and i think hatton may be too intense a fighter for cotto

Mohammad Abdulaev...he beat Cotto in the 2000 Olympics. But many ppl that saw the fight say that Cotto was robbed.Abdulaev ought to be good but he has disappointed many lately... He and Ricardo Williams.

Was in the same class as Cotto and Williams. Met Ricardo for the gold and won.

Had Ricardo and Mohammad done better, they would have lent even greater excitement to the jr. welter ranks.
