View Full Version : Sam Peter Wayyyy Overrated?

Am I the only one who feels this way? Why is everyone so high on him? Just because he knocks guys out? To me, all he has is power. I havent seen any kind of skill from him, his D is bad, and he is badly out of shape. Is the HW division that bad so we have to boost this guy up?

As for him and Wladimire I dont know who will win. I think Wlad is shot and it wouldnt surprise me to see him get scared and Peter knock his block off. On the other hand it also wouldnt surprise me for Wlad to make him look like a C+ fighter. I think Wlad's speed can give him problems and if you can make it past the first 3 rounds then he looks really tired. I think Wlad could kill him after that.

Either way, this guy is no way near a good looking fighter to me. Maybe if he got in shape I would feel different but all he does is just walk around and throw a big punch to KO a bum

I dont know if he is even rated. He is a prospect and his real big test will be Wlad. If he gets past Wlad then he is definetly not overrated.

last time I checked...when people "rated" Sam...they rated his power, size, and ability to knock guys out...

no one ever called him Ali or a great skilled HW...

so how can he be overrated in something that he shows time and time again?

I watched Peter vs. Diaz again today, and I gotta admit, if Diaz was a stronger puncher, that fight could have been real bad for Peter. Luckily, he took the few good shots Diaz could dish out and blew that troll out of the water. I think as long as Peter can take a punch (I think he can), then Klitschko is dead meat.

I barely know who this guy is but i heard that he doesn't have that good of a chin, is this true, and if so i expect wlad to win this fight.

Well i read something that said he gets rocked easily when he gets hits and he has no good def. Thats just what i read, i might have read it wrong too.

I don't know if anyone on this site saw more than just a bundle of his fights, including myself. I don't know if his chin has been seriously tested yet. Wlad is a hard puncher so we will see in September. His hand power is non-argumental. He has great power in both of his hands. I'd say Wlad is in trouble in this one because we saw how Sanders demolished Wlad. He also needs to stay cool and even if he gets Peter early, Peter can recover and do what Brewster did to Wlad.

Pretty much...

But yeah,he is 100% overrated he always gets KO's but i always think he looks like **** doing it,youre right about who could win it,either of them can,and that makes it kinda pathetic.

peter and lamon brewster are just like david tua: power, chin, aggression, and nothing else. just watch what happens when they meet some1 who can jab, move, and take a punch (no, not byrd).

there are only two differences:
1. brewster won a title when tua and peter didnt.

2. we know brewster and tua have solid chins, but we still dont know about peter's.

tua is the perfect example of what we will see when some1 tries to get by using nothing but power and toughness. even in a HW division as bad as this one, those two will not get you to the top.

Yeah, but I think if Peter loses to Klitschko, we can all admit he sucks.

heres what i think will happen in both situations:

if wlad wins, peter will be torn apart by the boxing public who will call him "overhyped, overweight, and another padded fighter". wlad stock as a fighter will skyrocket higher than ever before and will probly get a subsequent title shot against the IBF or WBO champion.

if peter wins, wlad will be totally erased from the HW scene and told to retire. peter will get the title shot instead of wlad. we'll finally know how well peter takes a punch.

GODDAMMIT!!! I CANT WAIT FOR THIS FIGHT!!! :D

either way, I think it's truly great how both men are putting their careers on the line in this one because let's face it: you lose to Klitschko, you're done. One more KO and Klitschko is done. it's a win-win situation for me since my two favorite heavys are Toney and Rahman. I'd love to see one of these guys get erased for good.

by the way, I also respect Wlad more than Vitali now because at least Wlad FIGHTS

pretty much what deigo said, we dont know how good peter can take a punch, we know how hard wlad can punch, and we know that his chin blows, one good wack from peter and its over, or one good whack from wlad and bye bye overrated peter, we shall see soon

The whole purpose of this fights is to prove two things. Is Samuel Peter the real deal and has Wladmir got over the shell lacking from corey sanders and Lamont Brewster. This is the best way to find out about both of them. One of the best made matches of this year, yesterday golden boy against the next mike tyson

should be fun

well it depends on who and how he is rated!!!.....

he/his team will be demoted back to nigeria after the wlad fight..........wlad knows his own strengths and weaknesses, and at the same time knows his opponents.....so expect wlad to stay away from the raging bull for the first 4-5 rounds and then wlad will castrate him with a big KO.

So if Wlad wins he is a bona fide contender again. People like to downplay performances but if Wlad wins by stoppage will be very good, considering all the negetative feedback he gets from fans over Brewster, Williamson fights. Or will people ***** like girls and say Peter was nothing. Because if he was nothing don't u think he would have gotten a title shot already ?

Wlad has shown pressure and power are a mixture he doesn't do well with. Peter is going to use pressure and power on Wlad the whole 4 rounds or less it may go.

Well, all punches are not created equal, Diego. Being able to take a Gilbert Martinez punch or a Yanqi Diaz punch is NOT the same as being able to take a Wlad punch or a Tua punch.

No, we cant say that. Losing to Wlad is not a shameful thing. He is one of the best fighters on the planet. Now, losing to, say....Gilbert Martinez, or Billy Zumbrum, or that Monaco guy, that is when you know you suck. Not losing to a fighter like Wlad.

You know, I can't wait for the next Cotto fight because I am really starting to worry about how much you and I seem to be agreeing with each other nowadays.

Peter hits hard that's all he has shown so far, I honestly see Wlad giving Sam the boxing lesson of a lifetime in their fight next month and earning an easy UD or maybe even a late ko.

Actually you dont really know how much power Peters has.Who has he knocked out?Glass chin Jeremy Williams? The light punching Sykes? He had proven nothing this far.Tons of fighters pile up knock outs against bums early in their careers but the true greats continue knocking out fighters even when they step up.At this point in time Peters is nothing but a overweight loud mouth.6'2 260 have you seen how who this guy is built? His gut hanging over his shorts..Wlad should have on problem knocking this guy out unless he just stands there waiting to be hit.Peters is highly overrated.

Nowadays.....in ta heavyweight divison, all you need to be champ is power, and ta ability to take ta otha guys punches. and o ya, stamina(WLAD!!!!!). nyhahahahaha.

Cmon, tis is ta heavyweights. There aint no Floyd or Winky or BHop defenses here. Most of ta fights end in ta earlier rounds and decisions barely happen. That bein said, a perfect punch from Peter in round 1 could finish off Wlad! Sam Peter has ta needed things to be champ.

I KNOW WHACHU THINKING!!!!!!!!! What bout David Tua? LOL! **** outta here, Lennox Lewis retired. LOL. Seriously though, I miss Lenox kinda. Lenox really is ta best.

What gives me confidence in Peter is that an overweight beer-bellied sem-retired golfer (Corrie Sanders)shattered Wlads chin and confidence.

By the way, I wouldnt pick any of the people that beat Wlad to beat Peter. And by the way, none of the people that beat Wlad have gone on to bigger and better things. Thats very tell-tell if you ask me.

Corrie Sanders was semi retired, however possessed some of the quickest hands in the division, and he could thump too. Brewster is still a champ, Sanders got a title shot(lol, i dont know how) after KO'ing Wlad, but that Purrity guy, probably retired or something.

I gotta agree there, Sanders was deceptively fast and powerful. But still he didnt take boxing too seriously.

He in my opinion did well against Vitali but took too much punishment.

Sam Peter has displayed great punching power, and that's it. He hasn't fought anyone yet but should have a punchers chance against anyone in the division. Having said that, history has proven punching power may get you a title shot, and even a title, but it has never been enough to maintain a champion. I think I already know what to expect from Peter's career.

It is Wladimir that I'm most interested in seeing. I'm not concerned with Wladimir's skills, he is a far better boxer and much more experienced than Peter. This will be a test of Wlad's confidence. If Wlad is confident, he should make Peter look like a school boy, if not, he may end the fight on his back.

Rock, Paper, Scissors : Klitchko, Peter, Byrd

Styles make the fight. Peter could land the big one and Klitchko is not the most elusive fighter out there. And it's nighty night for Klitchko. However, Sam will hit mostly air against Byrd and lose by UD. But Klitchko has the right style to decision Byrd.

That's the way I see it. :)

I agree. It's all true. I guess it's all up to how much pounding Peter can take while trying to land the big one. It could also be the beating of a lifetime for the slow, defenseless Peter.
