Klitschko batters Williams!
By Chris Bronte and Herman Patton at ringside
source: www.*********.com

WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko retained his title with an eighth round KO over Mike Tyson-conqueror Danny Williams Saturday night at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas. Klitschko (35-2, 34 KOs) dominated the fight, flooring Williams four times while landing five times the number of punches. Vitali staggered Williams with a right hand in round one then sent Williams to the deck with a barrage of punches. Willaims (32-4, 27 KOs ) got up at nine and made it out of the round. Klitschko controlled round two from the outside while Williams did little. Klitscho dropped Williams with a left hook at the bell in round three. Klitschko continued to score in round four, but Williams was still dangerous, especially since Vitali was holding his left hand at his side and his right hand low. Klitscko continued to pick Williams apart from the outside in round five, while Williams could not connect with Vitali's exposed jaw. Williams was more aggressive in the sixth, but Klitschko was still in command. Klitscko staggered Williams in the seventh with an uppercut and later dropped Williams with a right hand/push. The champion landed some big shots in the eighth then put Williams down again with a right hand, prompting referee Jay Nady to finally stop the beating. Time was 1:26.

Klitschko Stops Williams to Defend Heavyweight Title
Associated Press - December 12, 2004
Source: *************.com

By TIM DAHLBERG AP Boxing Writer

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Vitali Klitschko staked his claim to being the true heavyweight champion Saturday night, knocking Danny Williams down four times and giving him a savage beating before finally stopping him in the eighth round.

Klitschko retained his WBC heavyweight title in a lopsided fight that left Williams bloodied, battered and barely able to see.

Williams remained game even after the final knockdown in the eighth round, getting up at the count of nine and wanting to continue. But referee Jay Nady decided he had taken enough punishment and waved the fight to a close at 1:26 of the round.

Klitschko did something Mike Tyson couldn't do against Williams, knocking him down in the first round and giving him such a beating that Williams couldn't come back as he did in his upset win over Tyson.

Williams tried his best, plodding after Klitschko in the third round, but he rarely got inside the 6-foot-7 champion's stiff jab and took a pounding from his right hand.

There had been questions about Klitschko's stamina and his tendency to cut around his eyes, but he had no problems with either in a fight he dominated from the opening bell.

With his brother, Wladimir, working the corner, Klitschko swarmed all over Williams in the opening round, landing 52 punches to only four for the challenger. He knocked Williams down with 37 seconds left in the round and hit him almost at will.

Klitschko wore an orange flag on his trunks, signifying his support for Ukrainian presidential candidate Viktor Yushchenko. Others in the crowd waved Ukrainian flags and orange flags, the color of their candidate's campaign.

Klitschko's style was unorthodox, but it was devastatingly effective. And, while Williams lasted through nearly eight full rounds, there was no disputing the damage he inflicted on Williams, a journeyman British heavyweight of little repute until he stopped Tyson in the fourth round of their fight in July.

Williams was cut on his right eyelid in the first round, his face was puffed up, and both his eyes were nearly closed from the sheer volume of punches landed by Klitschko.

they'll say that Danny came in overweight, weighing 5 pounds more than in his previous fight (which is an equivalent of having or not a lunch for Danny)

ya but wha peoople dont get is
your suppose to come in a lil heavy for a guy like vit
they need extra strength and weight so that vitali cant muscel them around
which he ends up doin anyways

I think the fight was dragging in the later rounds. Vitali was taking his time in the fight, which is smart, but that made it a little dull for the fans.

Danny barely made it out from the first knock-down. It could have easily been KO1 (if it were not a championship bout).

danyy kept coming back up, sometime barely making the count. While Danny hardly did anything right tonight, I do have to argue that this was ONE pro trick - albeit a very dangerous one - that he did: taking the full count. I must admit, when Lacy got to "9" I was concerned, he did leave it late, but he got himself the extra breathing time.

Who knows what would have happened if Frazier had given himself time before getting up in his first fight with Foreman? Obviously I'm not comparing the two fighters, just the risky technique of using the count to your advantage.

Man I was worried for Vitali in about round 3! It looked like he was gonna pull a Wladimir and run out of gas! He got his second wind in about round 6 and finished strong! His jab and left hook really won thid fight! Great job Vitali!

Now you are taking it a bit far, you know he doesn't have "great" stamina. It's a good win for him but let's not get too carried away!

I am happy for the Klit fans, they needed a good win almost as much as he did!

Great win for Vitaly! Props for Danny to enduring so much punishment(He probable got Brain damaged). Vitaly showed a lot of ned tools tonight. Much more movement around the ring. Crisp left hook and nice uppercut. I loved how the fight ended. two uppercut combo and than one-two. Williams is flying across the ring :D

....The stamina thing is pure bull****. He was fine and not having any problems. Roy Jones was trying to wil him to have a stamina problem. Vit admited he was a little tired but said he was ready to go 12 if it was necesary. People are just trying to find something to knock him down with. Lennox still seems bitter to me and the same old pompous ass he has always been. Did his face look fat or what??

Vitaly got a little tired, so he just stepped back and threw some stiff jabs every couple of seconds to keep the pressure off himself.

A theortical fighter that kept coming forward and punching constantly could wear Vitaly down, but the way Vitaly defended himself when Danny "went crazy", just shows that agression wont intimidate Vitaly, it has to be effective agression.

I told everyone that Vitaly was gonna make an example out of Williams. Williams can go back to britain and fight nobodies to pad his record and make decent money i suppose. What a ****ty fighter he is. I still cant believe that everyone was suckin his dick just because he got lucky against an old ass Tyson.

IMHO it was not. Have you ever seen big brother beating his little sibling. It was similar but like 10 times worse. It was not even competative. Unless you are sadistic and like watch people get tortured :D

If the Vitali fans were looking for the haters to give Vitali props after this fight, I think it will be a COLD DAY IN HELL BEFORE ANY OF THEM WOULD DO THAT. I paid $45 for this **** and it was nothing like people are making it out to be. The fight was never, and I mean never, even close. Williams is GARBAGE. I do have to give him credit for getting up from the knockdowns....but why? He never threw any punches, he just stood there and let Vitali tee off on him. I have seen Vitali in about 5-6 fights now and I must say the guy is just too damn big for anu of the heavies right now. It does seem like he has stamina issues but the guy was throwing 70-90 punches per round. I can not stand to watch a fight where one of the fighters just refuses to let his hands go! If you don't want to throw punches then just quit dude, for ****'s sake.

I was disappointed that the fight wasn't competitive, hat's off to Vitali.....nobody can touch him right now IMO. Cotto is over rated......he'd get smoked by any top notch guy. He's still a little green. The best fight was Ramirez/Hernandez, friggin blood bath!

Correct I have to question danny's tactic of repeatedly headbutitng vitali's right hand with his nose. :D
To be fair to williams after the first minute when he got caught iut all went out the window, he never got chance to get inside and Vitali just hammered him from the outside.

it was pretty painful to watch and after the third knockdown i was hoping Danny wouldnt get up. it was a systematic beating.
