However, Maselino is definitely harder puncher than the both, and possibly hardest middleweight puncher around. Martin (Top Knowledge) 08-10-2005, 10:13 AM I've never heard of Evans Ashira? I see that he fought for the vacant WBA middleweight belt last year but lost. If I've never heard of him then I'm pretty sure he doesn't present a danger to Joe Calzaghe. rudy 08-10-2005, 10:30 AM just because u have not heard of him does not mean he is not good. He stopped Jerry Elliot a feat neither Eastman or Brian Magee could do. J ! 08-10-2005, 10:37 AM ITS A MARKING TIME FIGHT, JC KO inside 5. you dont honestly think they would put him in with anyone dangerous pre Lacy do you? Martin (Top Knowledge) 08-10-2005, 11:03 AM just because u have not heard of him does not mean he is not good. He stopped Jerry Elliot a feat neither Eastman or Brian Magee could do. Well... I like to think I know quite a lot about boxing... And through internet/downloads, Eurosport/Skysports/terestrial tv I try to watch every single fight available. If Joe Calzaghe is fighting someone I've never heard of... And that person isn't even ranked in the top 20 at super-middleweight, I smell a little bit of a miss-match in the making. Remember, this Evans guy may be a good fighter... But Joe Calzaghe is a proven excellent fighter. rudy 08-10-2005, 11:07 AM for once I don't them I don't want nothing messing up this big fight. do u think Calzaghe should be appearing in a big fight by now ? I just hope he doesn't get cut, personally he should got straight into the fight with Lacy, he has not been out a year two fights a year is his standard anyway Martin (Top Knowledge) 08-10-2005, 11:13 AM for once I don't them I don't want nothing messing up this big fight. do u think Calzaghe should be appearing in a big fight by now ? I just hope he doesn't get cut, personally he should got straight into the fight with Lacy, he has not been out a year two fights a year is his standard anyway Joe Calzaghe has needed a mega fight for a LONG LONG time! Joe hasn't suffered from cut problems before, so I can't see it happening at this stage of his career. I'm really looking forward to this Joe Calzaghe vs Jeff Lacy fight too!... I think it'll be a real cracker coz' both boys COME TO FIGHT! (Also there's the added little bit of fun - UK vs US banter to be had before hand ;) ) majestiC 08-13-2005, 11:38 PM Looks like joe is acting like a feathered bird that swims in lakes again http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/4145584.stm barryboy 08-14-2005, 09:24 AM Sounded too simple, have a fight in September then onto a unification with Lacy in November but when has anything gone to plan in Calzaghe's career so don't be surprised if he says one of two things, either he'll not be able to agree on money or he gets a hand injury in the September fight, you have to be cynical when Calzaghe's involved  Woods blasts Calzaghe! August 14, 2005 Clinton Woods has launched a scathing attack on Joe Calzaghe ahead of the first defense of his IBF light-heavyweight title against Julio Gonzales in Sheffield on Friday September 9th. WBO super-middleweight champion Calzaghe is due to defend his crown against an as-yet unnamed opponent in Cardiff on the following night and has previously accused Woods of running scared of him. "There's less than four weeks to go before Calzaghe's next fight but yet his opponent has still to be announced. It's a joke. What kind of world championship defense is that?" asked Woods. For Woods, the contrast could not be greater. "I'm making the first defense of my world title against a former world champion and I've had ten weeks notice. Gonzales was once WBO champion and is a very tough challenger." Woods and Calzaghe almost collided last year as the undefeated Welshman contemplated stepping up to the light-heavyweight division. But when the IBF expressed a reluctance to sanction an eliminator between the pair, Calzaghe turned his back on the proposed meeting leaving Woods fuming. "I'd signed my agreement to box Calzaghe and had already commenced my training. As far as I was concerned the fight was on. It's probably for the best though given that Calzaghe twice pulled out of fighting Glen Johnson and that he has a history of messing people about." Woods went on to beat Jason DeLisle in an eliminator and finally claimed the vacant IBF title with a fifth round stoppage over Rico Hoye in March prompting an immediate challenge from Calzaghe. Woods, however, was distinctly unimpressed. "Calzaghe wants everything his own way. In Roy Jones and Glen Johnson I've fought some of the best fighters in the world and earned my shot at the IBF title by boxing a tough eliminator – Calzaghe should be made to do the same," argued Woods. "I believe I'm a more credible world champion than Calzaghe, I've fought better people, and according to many people I'm better looking than him as well." elveiel 08-14-2005, 03:14 PM "I believe I'm a more credible world champion than Calzaghe, I've fought better people, and according to many people I'm better looking than him as well." LMFAO!! talking about who looks the best, thats funny as hell!! :D The last i heard about Calzaghe vs Woods was when Woods refused to speak to him on TV, seems like their ego's are getting in the way of this fight. Calzaghe is number 1 at super middle, it pretty much means he should get a shot at Woods' belt, no one would argue(except Woods) especially considering that Calzaghe would probably start as favourite. The Wire 08-15-2005, 11:43 AM anyone know why theyve not announced him as the challenger yet? rudy 08-18-2005, 11:10 AM I hate to say it but Joe Calzaghe is looking a bit like Danny "no bottle Williams" Excuses Excuses Excuses either he wants the fight or he does not simple. Fighs that I know Joe Walked away in fact it was twice with Glen Johnson (he was supposed to fight Johnson after he beat Toks Owoh) and then more recently. Clinton Woods (he did not want get stripped WBO Title means nothing anyway) Brian magee, now he talks about nothing certain about Jeff Lacy when everybody is geared up for seeing this. I hope this comes to London not been to a big show since Calzaghe beat Eubank (yes I travelled to Sheffield and back to London same day for that one. FANTASTIC POST. :boxing: I AGREE TOTALLY.:) Gerald 08-24-2005, 12:04 PM I really doubt Calzaghe - Lacy will happen on Nov 5th if Joe is already making excuses, claiming nothing is definite, and a lot of things can happen between now and then. I worry that training for the Ashira fight hasn't gone too great and Calzaghe thinks he will get away with it on Sept 10th, but isn't in the right state (even with a two month gap) to step into the ring with Lacy. I doubt this fight happens before December, if at all - I can see it falling through and Calzaghe moving up to 175 to fight Woods if he beats Gonzalez in Sept. medium-deek 09-01-2005, 07:03 PM I would love it if we could get the Calzaghe - Woods fight on. Woods has been mouthing off a bit lately. But given the opportunity, my boy Joe would KO him on 6 rounds, in my biased opinion. rudy 09-02-2005, 05:48 AM Don King is coming over with Evan Ashira, I really hope Calzaghe is up for this. I remember Ashira was gunning for Bernard Hopkins, ok he lost big time in his first world title fight and mistakes happen. He is a big puncher and I mean big otherwise Don King would not be wasting time coming over to England (unless he is looking to sign ricky Hatton as well) There could well be a shock but one thing i know for sure. LACY VS CALZAGHE DOES NOT HAPPEN THIS YEAR |
