View Full Version : Stewart Extremely Mean to Vitaliy
Nautilus 12-11-2004, 09:16 PM In the opening commens, Stewart stated that he has a lot of questions about Vitaliy.
He said that Vitaliy's performance against Kirk Johnson was not impressive and that Vitaliy could not even hurt Corrie Sanders.
I am completely puzzled as to what is going on.
What is up with Manny Steward? Is he still planning to work with Wladimir?
Or is Lennox coming out from the retirement?

No Lennox is not coming out of retirement
Manny and Vitali probabaly had a falling out.

does not bother me, but it is not ethical to trash a figher he trains (or trained)
scramwarrior 12-11-2004, 09:25 PM People paid good money to order this fight. He's not going to say that Vitali is completely badass and give Williams' fans a bias and demotivating report.
abdiel2k3 12-11-2004, 09:31 PM so is manny not Vits trainer anymore?
Mr. Violence 12-11-2004, 09:42 PM i guess sometimes the truth hurts
so is manny not Vits trainer anymore?
...He has always been Vits 2nd and Wlads 1st trainer. Fritz is and always has been the main man as far as Vit is concerned. Yeah, I thought it was kind of curious the way he talked about Vit but he also said that Vitali himself was not happy with the Sanders fight either. I think Manny is setting us up for a big statement fight by Vitali and then he will say that is what he was looking for from him.

Emanuel still needs to look professional on TV. If he has questions, he needs to be honest. When you're a promoter, you can be biased and not look silly. When you're a commentator being paid for analysis, you need to be real.
I don't think he was being mean; all the commentators seemed to agree - Vitali still hasn't completely separated himself from the other heavyweights.
And here's the thing - if he fights another lardass whose only quickness is his hands, he still won't. He really needs a KO over a quick, respected name fighter.
And I'm not saying he won't do it.
In fact, Nautilus, if Vitali can KO Hasim Rahman (I mean a legitimate, Hasim's on the ground out or looking for his mouthpiece or writhing in pain), I'll give you a million points. And Neuraxis, too (yes, I've got it).

I honestly believe that VK will KO/TKO Rahman. Maskaev and Lennox did it, and Vitaliy will do it too.

Lennox also got KO'd by Rahman. I think vitaly will win, but I don't think a KO is a foregone conclusion.
As for Steward's comments, he was right about the Johnson fight. Kirk came into the ring and I honestly thought, "Oh my god! It's the Pillsbury Homeboy!" I say that VK is lucky that his hand didn't get stuck in between those huge rolls of fat when he was body punching.
Not being able to put away Corrie Sanders isn't necessarily a black mark on his record, but it doesn't say much about his power, either.

who gave you that custom title?
vB Martin 12-12-2004, 01:42 PM I did. It's in honor of that idiot who said because having a life took me away from here for a few days, I must have left the boards in shame after the Moron got re-elected.

....You stand corrected because after the fight Manny said he did seperate himself from the rest. And one of those "other" commentators was Lennox Lewis so enough said.
manny was getting paid last night to be a commentator...
that was a comment.
was he being paid last night for being a trainer?
He prolly talked in advance with VK about how he has to do his job and things like that will be said, but really and truly he still loves him and always holds a place in his heart for him or something like that
LOL
Pno

I wouldn't say "stand corrected". After all, if it was as simple as you say, Nautilus wouldn't have started the thread.
Soundtraveler 12-12-2004, 04:41 PM Emanual told me a year before he got his wish, that the one fighter he wished he could train was Klitschko. I think everyone will see a gradual change in how Vitali fights, he now has a Hall Of Fame Trainer in Manny Steward, he knows more about boxing and it's history than any of us will EVER know!
QueenCity 12-12-2004, 04:43 PM manny is just stating the truth and it hurts some ;)
Bingo, he's paid to tell it like he sees it

i'm thinking this thread was started during the pre-fight hype prior to the fight anyway, when they were all discussing it. Then post-fight they asked if the fight had changed anything, and Manny was less derogatory at that point.
So you stand corrected.
a good trainer is always truthful and tough on the one he is training.
no reason to coddle him, unless you want him to loose.
:)

...Your comments were pre-fight? Alright I will buy that. Now you must also agree at this point since you were backing the opinion of the commentators in the first place, that they are right in saying Vitali is the man now. If you come back with some lame **** about Byrd or Ruiz than you no longer have any credibility when it comes to the heavies IMO.
bchynn 12-12-2004, 05:09 PM This isn't the first time Steward has dogged his own fighter. He did that to Lennox Lewis after Lewis retired. Frankly, the guy has little credibility now. Nice to your face and dogs you when you aren't around.
he's a commentator, that's his job!
when a commentator begins to be one-sided in his comments, then he looses credibility and people don't listen so much to them.
like watching new channels, what's your flavor? Left? right?
cnn? foxnews?
LOL
:D
DarthJul 12-12-2004, 05:15 PM stewart hasn't done much good to the K's (certainly not Wladimir, he seems to have lost his confidence). Perhaps he's dissapointed about that, and doesn't like to admit that Fritz zdunek is having better results with them
I'm sure it's just a conspiracy theory and I don't even necessarily believe it... but
imagine Stewart sabotaging the Klitschkos so Lewis can return to boxing having his fears removed
:D
LOL

Ok, that was marginally funny.
My take on this is that I thought it was a mismatch all along, and if everybody went into the fight saying that Danny Williams sucked and was going to get beaten around the ring all night before the ref mercilessly stopped the fight; Nobody would watch it.
If Lewis comes back from retirement, it would be interesting to see who Manny Stewart works for.
sorry for letting you down, sir comedy judge master :)
