Take Bernard Hopkins now at 160 and match him up against James Toney when he was down at 160. Both fighters have been named "Fighter of The Year" by Ring for work they did at Middleweight Hopkins in 2001 and Toney 91

Hopkins best wins:
Tito
DLH
Echols
Joppy

Toney's best wins:
Nunn
Johnson
McCallum 2x

Who do you think wins and why?.

Hopkins would beat Toney by decision. He would outslick him like Nunn and would not fall apart on the late rounds.

Toney wins...Hopkins would win most of the early rounds. Both fighters have excellent skills and chins but I can see JT dropping Hop late. Hmmm...its actually kind of a toss up. Going by Toney's wins over Bodysnatcher x2, Barkley and Second to Nunn I'd say JT by close decision.

JT @ 160 : 35Wins (20KO's) - 0L - 2Draws, 6 title defenses, wins over Nunn, Johnson and the Body Snatcher.

Both have excellent skills, speed, chins and defense. But I think JT's got more power on both hands. I think JT will eventually slip in one of his quick powerful counters and KD's B-Hop in a tight defensive fight. I reckon JT wins by decision.

The key is, if JT came in in shape, and didn't have to starve or dehydrate himself to make 160, like his fight against Roy Jones, i think Toney would take it.

I'd have to go with Hopkins by decision. At 160, James wasn't nearly the learned craftsman he grew into (literally and figuratively). Especially on defense. Don't get me wrong, even at 160 James had above-average defensive skills, but he's so much better now--it's almost effortless to him.

Now if you took the James Toney of today and made him a middleweight again, he's beating a dent in Bernard's head.

Both counter punchers,so i would guess Toney by decision, just on his defensive skills.

what makes you think toney would be stopped at 160? He was almost never hurt at any higher weight...

I would not know who to pick in this one but:
hopkins by decision makes sense...
toney by decision makes sense...
toney by stoppage doesn't sound like a lot of sense to me...
but hopkins by stoppage doesn't make any!
