View Full Version : Was the first punch to KO Roy a bit of a girly love tap?
!! Anorak 12-11-2004, 03:01 PM I know this was probably discussed at the time, but the only way I got to see Tarver II was on a shaky connection here in the UK. Now I've finally got to see the KO highlight, it doesn't seem the devasting punch it was talked up to be. Why couldn't Roy get up? Does he really have no chin?
The Fix 12-11-2004, 03:04 PM i seen the punch live and believe me it was authentic
neils7147933 12-11-2004, 03:06 PM It was a clean shot that would have hurt the majority of guys in the division bad enough that they wouldn't have gotten up.
!! Anorak 12-11-2004, 03:11 PM I hope so... I am a RJJ fan

it was a hard shot
!! Anorak 12-11-2004, 03:26 PM All this time in the forum and I never got round to making myself an image? Shame on me!
!! Anorak 12-11-2004, 03:27 PM I still haven't by the looks of things
!! Anorak 12-11-2004, 03:29 PM It was the "Avatar" bit, not profile pic, right?
!! Anorak 12-11-2004, 03:29 PM There we go, it backdates as well... the greatest of all tahms!!
trephination 12-11-2004, 04:53 PM it was a solid shot. HBO replayed a angle that looked like it was shot from the crowd and you can really tell how hard he got hit
bchynn 12-11-2004, 05:00 PM It looked a lot harder than it was because of the end result. The truth of the matter is, RJJ doesn't have the physical superiority he once had, which has caused him to have a weaker ability to take a punch.
jack_the_rippuh 12-11-2004, 07:30 PM It was a clean shot, and he seen it coming way to late, he was about to get his guard up, though. I think Tarver threw that punch as hard as he could..
CLubberLang 12-11-2004, 08:01 PM It was a good punch for sure but correct me if I am wrong. RJJ did get up and the ref stopped the fight. He wasn't laid out like the Glen fight.
Dark Destroyer 12-11-2004, 08:02 PM I'm a huge Roy fan but the punch that KO'd him was clean and hit the right spot.
firefight 12-11-2004, 08:34 PM i think the fact that it was a hard shot and that roy had never been hit that cleanly before led to roy being KO'd. it seemed a lot harder than the right hand he took from johnson that knocked him out.

are u fukin kidding me?
he landed a perfect counter shot
well a lucky perfect counter shot
did u see the slow mo?
how his jaw just wobbles along with the punch
!! Anorak 12-11-2004, 08:42 PM I've seen boxers take shots more flush than that and stay up
jujitsujn 12-12-2004, 02:54 AM That a VERY hard shot that was thrown blind. He just put everything into it and happened to cach RJJ on the chin.
Dr.Depravity 12-12-2004, 03:29 AM I dont think Roy saw that punch at all. Thats why he went down pretty hard. In the Johnson fight It looked like he couldn't get away from Johnsons punches. Its like he saw them coming he just couldn't avoid them. Thats the sign of a fighter who's losing his ability.

Thrown blind?! No way!!!

BodysnatcherFan 12-12-2004, 08:01 AM From first angle, the angle that was non-slowmotion, it was a tap. But from the side angle in slowmotion, it is very powerful and snaps Jones head back.
jack_the_rippuh 12-12-2004, 10:12 AM On the floor he looked like someone who just got knocked out..
BodysnatcherFan 12-12-2004, 11:02 AM My opinion too
RussianArm 12-12-2004, 11:06 AM RJJ has a girly chin and a girly voice, but that's beside the point. The punch that Jefferson KOed him with was a push, and he fell like tree, timber, and almost killed himself, he needs to work on his technique if he is ever to box again.
jujitsujn 12-12-2004, 12:43 PM I do believe Tarver had his eyes closed when he threw that punch....so yes, a blind punch. Even Tarver admitted this, he tried to put some spin on it to make it sound like it was a cool thing, but he did admit to it. Blind indeed.

If you look at the bitmap above, you will see has his eyes open. He closes them the moment jones lands his hook, a split second before his own hook connects.
Truth 12-12-2004, 06:21 PM It was like the body shot Hopkins gave De La Hoya, it didn't look that hard but it was.
