or the 90's or 2000
!! Anorak 12-11-2004, 10:04 AM 70s... with a moderately slower Ali and some worthwhile opponents it made his bouts more competitive. Though that's just heavyweights, obviously. I suppose you could answer this question weight class by weight class.
Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Norton, Quarry...

or the 90's or 2000I'll take the 70s (with carry over from late 60s and spill over to the early 80s) when the likes of Pryor, Arguello, WGomez, SSanchez, Mancini, A young Azumah Nelson, La Porte, Zarate, Pedroza, Kobayashi, Harada, WBenitez, Alfonso Zamora, Little Red, Saad Muhammad, Quawi, Cruiser Holyfield, etc., were giving the heavyweights (as well as Leonard and company), a run for the fans' admission money. :)
dempseyfire 12-11-2004, 11:55 AM The 19teens, followed by the 1960s
Italian250 12-11-2004, 01:02 PM Toss up between the 50's ( Marciano, Ezzard Charles, Arhie Moore, Ray Robinson, Jake Lamotta, Basilio ) and the 80's ( Leonard, Hearns, Duran, Hagler, Chavez, Etc..)
The 50s was a packed decade.

Mr. Violence 12-11-2004, 10:16 PM I'll take the 70s (with carry over from late 60s and spill over to the early 80s) when the likes of Pryor, Arguello, WGomez, SSanchez, Mancini, A young Azumah Nelson, La Porte, Zarate, Pedroza, Kobayashi, Harada, WBenitez, Alfonso Zamora, Little Red, Saad Muhammad, Quawi, Cruiser Holyfield, etc., were giving the heavyweights (as well as Leonard and company), a run for the fans' admission money. :)
you hit the nail right on the head, no doubt that was the best era.
jujitsujn 12-12-2004, 02:51 AM One thing to note. The best era for boxing, in my opinion, is the one with the most evenly matched fighters. That being said, those fighters within the competitive eras are not nessacarily the best boxers.
psychopath 12-12-2004, 03:32 AM I 'll say 70's to 80's.
An era when a lot of good fighters crop up . . . some of my favorites
Ali, Foreman, Frazier, Norton, Sugar Ray Leonard, Hearns, Hagler, Duran, Hector Camacho, Jesus Cesar Chavez, Boom Boom Mancini, Alexis Arguello, Salvador Sanchez . . . . just to name a few. But there are still so many and I can't remember them all rightnow :D
grayfist 12-12-2004, 08:12 AM you hit the nail right on the head, no doubt that was the best era. Thanks pal! ;) :)

Boxers competitive in an era may not be the best?
Sure. Sanchez vs.? Maybe, Saddler. Ok. But, who else? Zarate- La Porte? Zarate did not show enough? Harada? was not good enough? News: Most of those guys above are in Canastota.
Actually, Jofre-Harada 1 and 2 were in the 60s.
