This is an interesting matchup, becuase Norton is considered top 25 all time and fought some brilliant fights against Holmes and Ali. Mercer will never be mentioned in the same breath as Norton historically. Having said that, Norton had a glass jaw and Mercer had one of the best chins I ever saw. Norton was knocked out by almost every puncher he ever faced...in ugly fashion.

It kills me becuase I love Norton, but Mercer knocks him out..inside of 6 rounds..."styles make fights"

Hard to say for sure; it'd be a great matchup with two very mentally tough fighters. Mercer has a much better chin and a significant edge in power but I think Norton was better conditioned and would gain more ground with each passing round. Ray would be dangerous early, though Norton's jaw was MUCH better than Tommy Morrison's (who Mercer nearly killed). The Duke's chin ranks right up there with Michael Grant.

I'm going with Norton on the basis that he beat the better opponents, and never lost a fight to a guy like Jesse "Turd" Fergusan.

I would have to go with Mercer in this one. Too much power v. too weak a chin. Ko by midrounds.

Maybe that has something to do with the fact that Norton was very nearly knocked out by the weak punching, Jimmy Young, when Young connected with a right cross in the second round of that fight and had Norton rockin' and reelin' from it.

First off, I didn't say Norton was KO'd by Young. But I did say he was "very nearly knocked out" by Jimmy Young's right hand. And Norton may have recieved the official decision in that fight, but I certainly didn't see him as the winner of it. Did you see that fight? If so, what did you think of it and how did you score it? Ah forget it...I doubt you've even seen it.

Oh, and Norton fought Jimmy Young before he fought Shavers, so you get a great big "LOL" for your comment about him being washed up for that fight with Young...Especially considering Norton ended up fighting the fight of his life in his very next fight after Young, when he went toe-to-toe in a close battle with the great, Larry Holmes.

from a style standpoint I think thatthis fight would go the distance mercer only has a chance if he shows up in shape and is collected throughout the fight.
