View Full Version : Ray Mercer vs. Ken Norton dodge 12-11-2004, 07:57 AM Who wins??? Great 12-11-2004, 08:43 AM If Ray in shape, a knockout in middle of fight. Ray winner. Mr. Violence 12-11-2004, 11:44 AM Man this would be a great fight. It would be toe to toe. I think Ray wins because he had a better chin. sssse 12-11-2004, 03:59 PM Ken Norton UD. Imira 02-20-2005, 08:02 AM Mercer KO 11 dodge 02-20-2005, 09:07 AM Mercer by tko 1. marvdave 02-20-2005, 11:45 AM This is an interesting matchup, becuase Norton is considered top 25 all time and fought some brilliant fights against Holmes and Ali. Mercer will never be mentioned in the same breath as Norton historically. Having said that, Norton had a glass jaw and Mercer had one of the best chins I ever saw. Norton was knocked out by almost every puncher he ever faced...in ugly fashion. It kills me becuase I love Norton, but Mercer knocks him out..inside of 6 rounds..."styles make fights" Kid Achilles 02-20-2005, 11:48 AM Hard to say for sure; it'd be a great matchup with two very mentally tough fighters. Mercer has a much better chin and a significant edge in power but I think Norton was better conditioned and would gain more ground with each passing round. Ray would be dangerous early, though Norton's jaw was MUCH better than Tommy Morrison's (who Mercer nearly killed). The Duke's chin ranks right up there with Michael Grant. I'm going with Norton on the basis that he beat the better opponents, and never lost a fight to a guy like Jesse "Turd" Fergusan. M26 02-21-2005, 06:14 AM I would have to go with Mercer in this one. Too much power v. too weak a chin. Ko by midrounds. lmnorw 03-08-2005, 05:24 PM why do people always say norton has a glass jaw?he was ko'd by foreman shavers cooney and one other guy i forgot his name..but being ko'd by the people i just mention doesnt make you have a glass jaw..so mike tyson has a glass jaw then..lets see who would you rather be ko'd by.. foreman shavers and cooney or douglas holyfield lewis and williams?hmmm i would pick the first group...norton should be able to out box mercer and maybe even drop him late..holyfield did and i am sure norton punches harder than holyfield number6 03-08-2005, 05:39 PM Tough Call, mercer Has The Power To Win By Ko,but I Think That Norton Would Out Work Him To A Points Win Yogi 03-08-2005, 05:42 PM why do people always say norton has a glass jaw? Nevermind those knockouts. Maybe that has something to do with the fact that Norton was very nearly knocked out by the weak punching, Jimmy Young, when Young connected with a right cross in the second round of that fight and had Norton rockin' and reelin' from it. lmnorw 03-08-2005, 09:09 PM lol when was norton ko'd by young?norton won that fight in 15 rounds ..and by that time norton was washed up from his ko loses to foreman and shavers..so are you going to say holyfield has a glass jaw?a blown up fat james toney knocked him out.joe louis was almost ko'd by the really light punching billy conn 68 wins and 11 ko's and he was only 170 pounds for that fight..so as i said norton didnt have a glass chin he was just hit by huge punchers thats all Yogi 03-08-2005, 09:43 PM lol when was norton ko'd by young?norton won that fight in 15 rounds ..and by that time norton was washed up from his ko loses to foreman and shavers First off, I didn't say Norton was KO'd by Young. But I did say he was "very nearly knocked out" by Jimmy Young's right hand. And Norton may have recieved the official decision in that fight, but I certainly didn't see him as the winner of it. Did you see that fight? If so, what did you think of it and how did you score it? Ah forget it...I doubt you've even seen it. Oh, and Norton fought Jimmy Young before he fought Shavers, so you get a great big "LOL" for your comment about him being washed up for that fight with Young...Especially considering Norton ended up fighting the fight of his life in his very next fight after Young, when he went toe-to-toe in a close battle with the great, Larry Holmes. lmnorw 03-09-2005, 02:59 PM i seen the fight moron and i seen young get robbed against ali..and foreman knocked out norton before he fought young..lets see what 3 fights with ali his tough fight with quarry ,being knocked out by jose luis garcia and being destroyed by foremam does to most fighters ..norton was a shell of a fighter when he fought young..and you go well he had a great fight the next fight with holmes but what does that say about holmes?that he could barely beat a shot fighter that is it..marciano was dropped 2 times in his career by fighters who started their careers as middleweights but to stupid morons he has a great chin..who would you rather go do to ..a guy who is 39 and 0 with 36 kos in foreman i dont know shavers exact record when he fought norton but i know he had 57 wins and lets say 53 kos or get knocked down by a 42 year old moore and a 39 year old ezzard charles?neither who were big punchers at the weight they fought the rock..or wait how about being ko'd by buster douglas holyfield lewis and danny freaking william?but doest mike tyson have a glass chin?i am sure you dont think so..so quit the norton bashing paul750 03-10-2005, 05:36 PM Mercer by late ko chimpy 10-06-2005, 06:33 PM The fact is Norton's chin held up & then some against Quarry (ko'd Shavers), Ali (ko'd Foreman, Frazier), Holmes (ko'd Shavers, Weaver, Ali). So do we then say Norton had a better chin than the aforementioned ko victims? While it is true that Mercer was a decent puncher, he was no Foreman or Shavers. Nortons defense while useless against Foreman & Shaver's styles, would have allowed him to stay even with Mercer-Norton by late ko DODGER 10-06-2005, 08:52 PM Mercer by TKO 1. Xcitefight 10-06-2005, 09:02 PM I'll say Ken just because I think he has better skills than RAY chimpy 10-07-2005, 03:39 PM "Dodger" would be the correct moniker for you. Perhaps you should stick with baseball! Gemini531 10-13-2005, 10:25 PM The fact is Norton's chin held up & then some against Quarry (ko'd Shavers), Ali (ko'd Foreman, Frazier), Holmes (ko'd Shavers, Weaver, Ali). Nortons defense while useless against Foreman & Shaver's styles, would have allowed him to stay even with Mercer-Norton by late ko from a style standpoint I think thatthis fight would go the distance mercer only has a chance if he shows up in shape and is collected throughout the fight. vBulletin® v3.7.1, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
